Title: We Need A Better Mtv Strategy
Description: Any ideas?

alienhamster - March 22, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
I'm assuming that he didn't make TRL again today. I caught the last part of the show today where they had the ones just under the top of the charts, and I didn't see Elliott there either.

We need a more targeted, organized effort if we're going to get behind this. That means getting everyone possible on board on the same day to vote.

We don't know for sure that multiple votes with the same userID are getting counted. I'm gonna explore that one and see what I can find out, but I have to say I can't commit a lot of time to helping organize the next few days. Hopefully some other people can step up here and help us out.

Some ideas:

(1) We do know that each account can vote. Perhaps people can sign up for more than one account?

(2) We should pick a day soon and make that the primary voting focus on these boards. Get everyone possible to vote, including friends, family, etc.

(3) We need a prominent post/thread that explains how to get there (and how to multivote in case multiple voting does count).

(4) We have to reassure people that this is worth it, as annoying as the mtv site can be. Not everyone gets the effects of TRL on sales and even radio airplay.

Any suggestions folks?

I will do what is needed. As many times as I have voted I can not believe he is not making the list. There must be teens voting for hours.

erm...can't you CALL in votes as well? The web voting is a hot mess...so maybe phone voting is the key?

LC,

That's interesting. Also if you can text a vote, I have a niece and nephew who helped me text during AI. There was a lunch involved for the labor, but well worth it. They're also both Elliott fans now.

I just read that TRL live is actually cut down to either 2 or 3 shows a day. The voting is affected some way...someone needs to dig deeper into this info.

Maybe VH1 would be a better focus...

If you can call in, I NEED THAT NUMBER! Cause that site is a huge pile of crap.

I agree, we need VH1 too!!

This is sooo important! I think we need constant reminders about this like the MOOSAK sisters always did...

Janizzle - March 23, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah...there used to be a number to call in, I have no idea if that's still implemented...

I read this in an interview on Frontline:

"In the dead center of the music industry, TRL is certainly maybe the most important thing at the moment for those top ten artists. Are you going to break your artist into those very, very top spots? For an artist like Limp Bizkit, they have to do it."

I don't know how to kickstart this campaign, but it's very important.
Here's the whole interview for those interested in reading more:

Can we invoke the e-mail to the entire registerd users here? I think it's time to do it.

I just have an eerie feeling that it doesn't matter who gets the most number of votes, in the end of the day, "others" decide which 10 videos will be on the countdown. It's just too unpredictable and even if we voted, it wouldn't make much of a difference. Sorry to be pessimistic, but I just don't trust these Top 10 video countdowns (106 and Park included)

The MTV site is awful--every time I try to enter into it--it jams my computer. It is do damn heavy with video!

Or are you fellow etrainers jamming it...hahaha!

My computer stinks I think.

I don't know if its the same shows every week, but they are not all live anymore. My sister went to a taping a few weeks ago (on a Monday) and they taped Wednesdays show that morning and then Monday's show was live. She said they chose the videos for Wednesday's show randomly, so unless we know which days are pretaped theres no way to know if we are actually voting for that day's show.

alienhamster - March 23, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
All signs seem to point to them *definitely* doing TRL live on Mondays, so I say if we're gonna go all out, let's shoot for Monday.

Do y'all think we could call in a favor from the Soul Patrol? A lot of them like Elliott, and Taylor doesn't have a video to compete with him here. Whatever we do, we need a wider net of voters. If anyone has links/friends in the Soul Patrol, maybe you could help this work.

(I ask this idea carefully, btw, because I don't want the thread to turn into any criticisms of other fanbases or anything. Please be constructive if referring to specific fanbases.)

hoome3 - March 23, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
I've seen this "I've already voted" question on another thread, and maybe
it has been explained. Sometimes I can vote multiple times, and then other
times (like right now) I keep getting "You've already voted". I've only been
able to vote once this AM. It seems random to me. Does anyone know?

itslate - March 23, 2007 04:52 PM (GMT)
I'm not exactly sure how the votes are tallied, but I'm wondering if multiple voting is really being counted or possibly harming? I mean each time we vote we are signing on with our names. I can't say for sure because I'm not sure what's happening on their end. But it's possible that each time we sign in, we still just get the one vote.

I'm all for trying other ways besides online.
