Title: If We Don't Start Requesting......
E4me - March 24, 2007 12:33 AM (GMT)
WFY is not going to be the hit it has the potential to be.
I am sensing that people are unwilling to pick up the phone and do what is required. I don't really know why this is but I think we all need to get past whatever excuses we are making. If we don't, we will all be scratching our heads next week wonering why the song isn't taking off.
We've all awited a long, long time for this, we need to follow through.

AMEN!!! I have NEVER called into a radio station to request a song before. Since WFY was realeased, I have become a pro! It's actually a lot of fun!!
alienhamster - March 24, 2007 12:41 AM (GMT)
I'll admit it's a little disheartening when you call and call and they STILL won't play it. Station I talked today has played the song before, talked to the DJ who's also the program director, and really thought he was going to play it. Nope.
I'm trying to look more long term. EVen though i didn't get the request played, it planted a seed in his head that this is a song the audience wants.
tofu - March 24, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
I have been requesting WFY for over a week at my local station. I've emailed their request line. and called all this week for their call in request time.
One of the DJ's told me it's not on their play list. I asked him how do we get it on there? He says they play what people request. I told him how will people know a new song to request it? He said he would see what he could do that was Monday, still haven't heard it.
I emailed one of the other DJ's explained all about Elliott's record deal and the whole music indrusty is paying attention to it. How could anyone not want to help artist do the music that's true to their soul? Did get an email back that she would do alittle research on it for me. Well it's Friday and I stll haven't heard it played

I'm calling like crazy and can't get through. I've emailed and no response at all.

I agree it is frustrating. I am at a loss for what to do. Is there anyone in the music business who can make a suggestion. What about his mangement team? Can anyone reach out to Brandon for help?

Get others on board too. Be persistent every day.
Yep, we could sure use help from the management team...
some hints would be nice.

Keep in mind ya'll, Daughtry didn't get immediate airplay intially & now he's all over the place! We are in the first few weeks of the debut single & look at the progress being made already! Perseverance is KEY right now! We HAVE to KEEP IT UP. Stay strong & positive & keep on chuggin!!

Ditto for me too. I only got through to a station one time to request the song, and I don't think it was played. I've emailed, called, voted on all the polls.
Maybe things will look up in the next couple of weeks once all the stations have the song?
Sk8888 - March 24, 2007 08:22 AM (GMT)
I'm coming to the conclusion that most of us are doing our due diligence.
But, I also am coming to the conclusion that perhaps we should all stick together and zero in on certain stations that fit the format of WFY, and who's websites give us indicators that a group effort will result in a Wait For You spin.
This group-quest comes in the form of the song face-off and at stations that claim that they play the song that receives the highest number of requests EVERY HOUR. These radio stations may not be in your area, but all of us together can certainly get enough votes in a ONE HOUR VOTING window to get Wait For You a spin....we just have to announce it.
We've had success with JoJo's at KIIS FM in LA, in Cleveland and to some degree in Detroit.
It is time to put our CD players down, turn off our ITunes and start radio station Fanvaisions....i.e. stations that want reuests.
On Monday we have another song face-off in Cleveland where we will show our ability to pull together as a solid voting block once again.
I'm sure there are more radio stations out there where we could follow this model to get a WFY spin.
Sk8888
p.s. There is also a need to join the radio membership clubs. You get more access when you do.

I'm sorta new here....is this KISS FM 965 in Cleveland? What do we do on Monday? Vote? Request? What?

I have been calling daily to 99.5 in Washington DC. The DJs say they love Elliott, but I don't know if they are playing him or not - I only listen on the way to work and most of that time is spent with conversation. Does anyone in Washington know if he is getting any play?
ElliottisTrueBlue - March 24, 2007 02:08 PM (GMT)
Guys how much is too much? One thing I know very well is that too much requesting is bad (I'm a big Clay fan, and I had to watch some of my fellow Claymates totally overdo the requesting and turn off the DJs). I want to do it enough so they play, but not so much that they don't do spite me!

No, he hasn't since the hot or not poll, which we blew out of the water, despite the trolling. It's odd because the station director there picked Elliott as a national "hot pick," we had a poll that was clearly won and . . . nothing. No airplay.
bailey, since you are a local listener, it may pay to write a letter (or perhaps a really nicely written e-mail) to the program director articulating how much you'd like to hear the song there and have Elliott added to the playlist. If you can say some specific things about the DJs or shows there to prove that you are a regular listener, that would also help. (Also include home address, etc.)
If a couple of other folks in DC area do this, that could work. This is NOT the kind of project we should all send mail on--it's up to the local E-trainers.
baileyone - March 24, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
Good idea - I'll send an email. Maybe the frantic effort on the "Hot or Not" poll (with the trolls) soured them on the record/Elliott - I know that I have read here that the Clay Akins fans overwhelmed the DJs to the point they aren't playing his music. I hope that isn't the case.
I don't know that this is the best song for their format. I think Whiter Shade of Pale, I'm the Man, Alright, Trainwreck might be better suited to their station. I know I am tired of hearing the same songs over and over again from the radio stations -

I'll admit, I've had a hard time with the local radio station here in Memphis. The one time I've gotten through I was informed they will take a "wait and see" approach at how well the CD is selling and how other stations are playing.
This is something that E's management team needs to handle, when it's something that's out of our hands like this. Even if they have to give away free CD's like I read Chris did.
bigEfan - March 25, 2007 12:59 AM (GMT)
Well, I've called and called. Got a rude dj and he told me essentially I was a freak and E wasn't even in the top 40. So, I've back off that one. I email stations, etc. I do believe most are doing what they can. And also, taking some precautions as to not turn off the dj's and/or stations.

baileyone - look at the link I've provided - you can click on the blue Edit Friends at the top and add Elliott to the top 16 favs. Just another way for 99.5 to see that listeners want to hear Elliott. He is already there, ready to be added. Anyone can do this not only DC folks.

I agree that the fans are doing due diligence.
I also agree that you have to request at stations that fit the format to WFY.
What this means if a station gives you roadblocks, it might not be the best station. Try another.
I don't think anyone is making any excuses. I think everyone is working VERY hard.
It might just come down to a matter of where the efforts are concentrated. I also hope you all realize that singles are not normally played the first week of a release. When a CD is released it takes a bit of time for the first single to get substantial airplay. We are not even out of the gate of week one. I am not surprised at all that it has not taken off yet. Many singers take more than a week of a release to get a lot of airplay.
wowhesgood - March 25, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
It has been frustrating. I live in a rural area and can't get through on request lines for the nearby cities and I've e-mailed. I e-mailed a dj at my favorite station and offered to buy her a copy, no response. My next plan is to ask if she'd be willing to allow me to gift her a copy from iTunes (the station may like WSOP) and give her the whole story about how great E is and expand on his personality, deafness and diabetes.
Frustrating!!!!

I know it is not easy getting a song played. I have been calling anrd requesting Z100 for days . I am getting to know them over there. I have requested to two stations and they did put on Elliott.. But I requested so many stations and they will consider it or no response. We do have to keep requesting on the stations that are already on format to get them to play Elliott more. The m ore spins the more Elliott climbs up on the charts. Request the stations that are decreasing spins.
Check on mediabase and click on Wait for you. then on the top of that page click on Show format starters=those are the new stations playing Elliott. Keep requesting, very important. - priority

I called NYC's Z100 a little earlier and Jessica finally answered the phone. Shelley is the DJ that was on and I don't know who Jessica is but I told her that Elliott Yamin officially has the #3 single in the country this week and was there any way they could play it. She said "Not today but I will put a request in for it." I thanked her. Then, I emailed their morning DJ, Elvis Duran, and said the same thing. I told him how cool it would be if he could give it a spin. I also told him I liked his show (have never listened but feel I can fib for Elliott). Then I listened to two songs from Elliott's CD on their Music On Demand because traffic there might result in airplay for him sooner! By the way, I live in Austin, Texas!
imthesame - March 28, 2007 06:23 PM (GMT)
I took a CD into our local Adult Contemporary station, Sunny 95. I was all dressed up and looked rather sophisticated if I do say so myself. I requested that they play Elliott music because I represented their demographic and their demographic loves Elliott. The woman made no promises, but she was very pleased to accept the gift. I'll be listening and let you know. Let's keep working, but stay positive and playful - just like Elliott is being. He's so pleased to be getting this break - things are really good for him and for us as well - time is on our side when we have such a valuable commodity to promote!!
