Title: Target Story
Description: Movin those CD's

Rick1965 - March 24, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
I went to Target to buy a copy of Elliott's cd with the bonus tracks today and had to do some quick creative marketing on my own!! I went to the new releases section and was shocked to not find Elliott's cd there. I went over to the Y's and had to look behind the Weird Al Yankovic cd's to find 7 copies of Elliott's cd. Well, I couldn't live with myself knowing Elliott was behind Weird Al so I moved E's cd to the front and took three copies one for myself and two to put in with the new releases. I had to move the Joss Stones on the top shelf but I put E right in the first slot where he belongs!! I went back to shopping and I noticed that my cd case was cracked a little so I went back to switch it with one of the ones I left in the Y's. Amazingly, (but not suprisingly) they were all gone!!! And of the two I put in the new releases, only one was left! I switched the cd's and as I moved away two men in their 40's walked past and one man said "Oh man look there's that guy from American Idol!!" Then the other one said "Elliott's my boy" and walked away with the CD!! In less than one hour I moved 7 Elliott Yamin cd's!! Not that Elliott needs my help, but damn that felt good!!! :etrain:

Good job! I can't believe they weren't displaying it in a prominent area in the first place. It is featured in their ad for this week. At the Target I visited Elliott's cd was in a rack under the "Coming Soon" sign. There were 6 left after I bought mine. I wonder how many cd's the average Target was shipped? Any ideas?

I love this story - I can't wait to hear the numbers - I really think they'll be great. Everybody loves Elliott, it's really true!! In the JoJo interview JoJo said something about them keeping the numbers from Elliott - he probably said he didn't want to know, but I bet he'd enjoy hearing really good news - he did know that they'd exceeded their goal already.

pdlvne - March 24, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
That was a great idea. I am gonna have to check in other places and do the same if they are in the wrong place. I will move them where they should be UP FRONT!

TSPSoul - March 25, 2007 05:15 AM (GMT)
the target closest to my house was sold out of elliott cd's. a young female employee told me they only got about 8 copies and that "everyone has been asking about it". she said she didnt even know who elliott yamin was.

I went to another target and managed to find 3 copies, stuck two on the shelf where they'd be most visible and walked out of the store with a copy.
close call there!!

You know, on the one hand, I am so glad that E's cds are moving, but at the same time, I'm mad cause I WANT MY TARGET CD! I can't get it yet cause they are continuously selling out. It kinda sucks that they order such a limited number.

Yaminilita - March 25, 2007 05:40 AM (GMT)
Great story. When I went to Target today, I saw his slots empty, and there ws nothing under "Y," so I had the checkout guy check the computer and they were truly sold out. It's great he selling so fast, but imagine how many more he would have sold this week had Target had a better supply. I can't wait to see his sales numbers come in tomorrow.

merrr - March 25, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
That's a great story! :) I can't wait until the CD comes out here in the Philippines so I can do the same thing... haha :)

ElliottisTrueBlue - March 25, 2007 04:27 PM (GMT)
Mine were all in the display in the front.

There weren't that many left, otherwise I would've gone over to the bestseller section and placed them over the Katharine McPhee albums

Great story!!!!

We may all need to support the stocking clerks with their placement of Elliott's CD.

I know I have as well.

Great sales and marketing heads up!!

Went to my local Barnes and Nobles in NYC and saw only 2 E CDs left the first day. Went back and they had replenished and I saw about 6. Sadly the place was full of Taylor's CD and had Chris and some of Kat. I like Taylor's CD and feel bad they haven't sold more.

Rutti - March 25, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
I did the same today at Walmart & Target myself, thanks to the suggestions of etrainers - I would not have thought of it myself.

LOL! Every time we go into a store, my girls go to the electronics, and hide all of Kat's CD's behind others. They were raised well! LOL!! :rocker:

This confirms my hypothesis on another thread that Target nationwide did not get many on that first shipment. Richmond stores have restocked for the most part, but across the country most only got 8 to ten copies. And are sitting there sold out in many cases. ERRRRRRR

elliottlovr I think that is very immature. Very childish a thing to do and I can't believe you encourage your kids to do such a thing.

It's not terrible that people will have to buy Elliott's CD this week. The second week drop really hurts CDs. Hopefully, his album will have legs. That's the best indicator of success there is.

blaine23 - March 26, 2007 07:16 PM (GMT)
That's too funny because I did the same thing at my local Target thursday. There was a prominent endcap with no Elliott, just an empty space next to the SALE sign with the price.

So, I go dig some up and place them on the endcap and grab my own. But I worked in record retail for 15 years, so I'm always alphabetizing and reorganizing CDs and DVDs every time I go the store, whether I mean to or I do it unconsciously.

Anyway, I was back at Target the next day to get something and this time ALL of E's CDs were sold out.

Blaine,

Welcome to the Etrain!!

When I got the last CD at the Barnes & Noble I went to I went straight up to the front so people could see me holding it in line. I got a tap on the shoulder and it was a store manager.

She says is that the Elliott Yah-mahn CD? I said, "why yes it is."

She informed me that I should have paid for it in the music section, just for future reference. I was howling since I had just made them go find the last Elliott CD they had that was filed in the "generic Y" section....so I'm hoping this means new deliveries will go in the NEW RELEASES section where it should have been....for future reference of course. :cheerleader:

Went to my local Target today (Brook Rd. Richmond) and they were out again. An employee was putting up stock so I asked him if they were out of "Elliott" (didn't need to say his whole name) and he said they sold out again on Monday. I asked him what was wrong with Target and he said he thought none of them around here got enough. I told him that you think Richmond of all places would have anticipated the demand and ordered a lot. He agreed and just shook his head. Very frustrating!
