Hehe, you didn't get my point. The best fate for a singer (at least for the last couple of years) is NOT to get contracted with 19E.

Personally, i secretly wish Sanjayjay wins (as painful as this may sound) so that Simon quits the show as promised (that would be fun to watch but will never happen) and then A.I crumble into ruins, so that there will be no more of that farce.

I understood what you meant OOMM. I'm not too sure a deal with 19E is so bad. Isn't Whitney Houston signed with Clive Davis? There has to be some stock in being signed with that label. Besides, the point of going on AI is to be in it to win, so I don't know. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Fantasia done well? She has the R&B/Gospel sound which is somewhat similar to where Melinda will probably go with her music. I think it depends on the person and where they expect to go musically speaking. For some contestants (Carrie Underwood/Daughtry) it was smart to go with Davis. While for others (Elliott) it was smarter to go another route in their musical journey. To each is own as they say.

Yeah I agree. I know we say a lot that it is best not to have to win and go with 19E but reality says that everyone is on the show to win the thing. And I think that if someone is REALLY Good and marked for fame they will make the AI Machine work for them. I don't think Taylor did because he tried to be too rebellious and diss them right out of the gate. At least give it time for the contract to approach being over before being that brazen.

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are two major major AI success stories. Neither of them might have fared as well without winning. Realistically, (so far mind you because Elliott I think will be one of the big exceptios) those who did not win did not do all that tremendously. Clay did well, J Hud did well, but how many others who didn't win (aside from season five which was a HUGE anamolie) are doing really really well?

I guess I am still old fashioned and still want the very best one to win.

If Melinda wins she will be exactly like Ruben and not sell very many cds. She just isn't the type of artist that most people listen to anymore.... :blah:

That Cake crap on IDF is annoying. I like Blake but can't stand Chris. It's gross the way they photochop Blake and Chris like they are hugging, even kissing....yuck. Makes me want to hurl, honestly.

Whatever happens, I hope Melinda gets to record a great album and is in stores ASAP! I love her voice. And actually, I think Phil is a better singer than Blake and Chris. I don't understand why Phil has been in the bottom 3 like he has. Blake reminds me vocally of Sting.

Actually SMR, Blake reminds me of a young Sting vocally AND appearance wise. He looks a bit like him.

As for PHil vs CAKE (LOL now i am saying it heehee) it is all about appearance IMO.

Phil is not as "hunky" as Chris and Blake. It is not just the baldness because Chris Duaghtry was regarded as HAWTTTT ... it's just that poor Phil looks so pale and almost a little bit sickly. I don't mean to disrespect his fans, please don't shoot me here - but there must be something others are seeing as he gets so many remarks even from the judges about how pale he is. But personality wise he is a real sweetheart and I really like him, and vocally he is as strong as Blake MOST of the time (he HAS to work on that lower register still) and he is by far better vocally than Chris R. In my opinion!

AI is so much about appearance we all know that and I think this is why Phil takes a beating and the other two get away with more mistakes. TPTB know they can market chris or blake better.

Dox, I think you're right. I've read about studies involving appearance and how attractive people are basically given a benefit of the doubt and seen as better in whatever they do. It's really unfortunate because I think Phil's voice is rich and has a lot of depth. I do think Blake is a talented musician, but I prefer Phils vocal style and think both Blake and Chris' voices are more thin and do not have the same rich sound. Granted, Phil has occasionally had sharp/flat notes, but his overall singing has been really good. What really irritates me is how the judges keep saying he lacks emotion and personality.

It reminds me of what Simon said to Elliott last year about lacking personality and it makes me kind of mad. But, what can you do? I think the judges negative critiques whereas of Phil as opposed to much more praise for Blake/Chris is mostly why Phil has been in the bottom 3 more often. Also, I think you're right about AI viewing both Blake and Chris as more marketable due to their image, personality, and style. I have respect for all of these people because it takes a lot of courage to go on AI, but hopefully in the end it will be all about the voice for most people.

I should be tolerant, on account of my best friend and I are very fangirly over Phil Joel and Peter Furler (or Pheter Jorler as my best friend and I called them...and made up the Pheterlicious parody). Don't know who they are? Look up the Newsboys on wikipedia.

Yeah I guess I am a hypocrite. But those people on IDF can be VERY annoying and they ruined it so yeah, watcha gonna do? And their voices are pretty good but lack depth and emotion. Phil may not be a perfect performer but at least there is depth and emotion in his voice. JMO.

It's almost as Phil doesn't have a gimmick, and that's the problem. I do think that if he wasn't in the Navy (Was it the navy? I can't remember.) He wouldn't be here anymore, I think that is what has helped him thus far. Other then that, I don't think he has something that stands out in anyway shape or form. He, unfortunately is just there.

I mean even Elliott last year had something to stand out about (Besides his almighty powerful voice, he was so incredibly humble and the thing with his mother.) Phil has nothing, and he comes across to the audience as boring.

He has a nice voice, but there is something he often does when he starts the song off that sounds very, very unpleasant to the ears. When he gets going in the song it's very good. In my own opinion, I don't want to have to listen to an unpleasant beginning just to get to a good ending. It counterbalances everything.

Blake's voice may not be as powerful, but he utilizes it, and he is very creative. (Much more then Chris Daughtry, like Simon told him, that he was in a "Chris Daughtry" moment.) Blake does have the beat-boxing as a gimmick, but it's not so in-your-face, and I think Blake comes across as fairly likeable. Almost someone with a hyperactive personality.

Chris Richardson...Chris is cute, he's got very soft features, needs to grow some hair, but that's fine. Like Blake though Chris knows what he's good at, well some of the time. He has a lot of room to grow. But for the most part he's been very quiet, and I think quite likable. Yes his voice is thin, but if you listen to the 'studio recordings' he records very well. And will thus be instantly marketable.

Blake to me is ontop, while some may not consider him vocally as strong he has given solid performances every week. (Minus Mack The Knife, which I didn't like.) He also records very well, writes his own music, and tries to make things a tad bit different. Granted there has been people like him before, he just knows who he is, and what he wants to accomplish. Something I don't see in Phil at all, Phil rarely finds a song that fully fits him, and he hasn't quite found a niche. I don't honestly know, if he knows what type of music he wants to sing. Whether it be rock, rock-pop, ballads, or just pop.

But...the main problem is Phil has nothing extra going on for him, at all. He has no gimmick, and he comes across as boring because of it. Every year there is someone who does get overlooked because of it. I also think he needs a lot of work on his voice (Not saying no-one else does, because almost everyone except Melinda needs more work.), he is just in the point where he is stuck because of being overshadowed. (And you know that's bad when you are being overshadowed by this group.)

I agree about Phil being in the Navy helped get him there, and also the birth of his daughter. Since then, tho, he has had no real "gimmick" on the show and it makes him stand out less.

But as for Blake, I think Mac the KNife was a FABIO performance. I think he could have belted it out stronger but all in all I LOVED it.

I also agree Chris R needs to grow some hair and i figured the stylists would have him doing that by now...but since it is still cropped so low they might not. But there is still a good bit of time left on the show. He is good looking with it short but I think longer would make him look much better.

I personally think Phil looks good in hats so I am glad he is doing that more. And the stylists are putting some studio make up on him it seems to make him look less pale.

Altho Blake and Chris R seem thus far to be nice guys, Phil definitely has the
"sweetest guy" factor hands down..IN MY OPINION. Prefacing its my opinion so I don't take flack for that statement. LOL

Phil does seem very nice. But like I said, that it just gets lost in the crowd.

Edit: I forgot to mention, that Phil flourishes in recorded material. His voice is mesmerizing recording, and he adds this depth and shall I say soul, when he's recorded. He just needs to bring that energy to his performance.

That's so true. He has a 5 year contract as well, that he could break but he's got a great job making tons of money. Does he really care who wins AI? He'll stick around no matter who wins.

Well after putting aside any stupid stereotypes I had before, I gave Blake and Chris second chances, and listened to their performances again. Well whatdayaknow, they have grown on me majorly! Phil is still my fave, but they are there behind him and Jordin :)

I like phil, i like blake,(i'm related to blake) well, he's like my 5th uncle or something, anywho, i like jordin and melinda and lakisha too...I basically like everyone except sanjaya.

I really try to be fair with him. I know with the E comparisons it is easy to just hate him and rip him apart, but the whole virginia thing and the fact that he is a good friends nephew makes me soft.
