Title: The "LOST" Thread (may contain spoilers)
Outofmymind - May 18, 2006 06:40 PM (GMT)
And here is my first OT thread, regarding the show "Lost" that i've been recording on the background all this time in order to watch the paifull elimination night every wednesday.
So write your opinion on the show, your theories of what is going on, anything!
I personally have no idea of what is going on. I don't know if the island is real or part of somebody's imagination or some supernatural place as some people suggested (purgatory???)
What do you think?
teetrinity - May 18, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
I have no clue either. I decided to tape AI last night and not Lost. i missed a lot of it especially the last 15 minutes. So i have no clue what happened. My husband got pissed off cause he was "lost" too. So we were switching back and forth from the basketball playoffs to AI.
I'll have to go to Lost Media for a play by play.

Me either  Only started watching it in Season 2 so am puzzled about alot of things, like what's with the hatch and the punching in the code thing?? Have tried to read online reviews and recaps, but am still Lost about Lost :P

I love Lost. My DVR ususally records all the way to the end and then some, but the last two weeks, it has cut off before the show was even done. The last I remember last week Jack was injecting Libby with heroin and then at the beginning of this week's episode, she's dead. Did Jack give her an overdose on purpose because she was suffering so much and there was no chance to save her, or did she die on her own?
The main question I have this week is what was Locke doing cutting off his split and then just walking away? (Of course, this is in addition to the hundeds of other unanswered questions I have about the show.)
Outofmymind - May 19, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
I think next week they will shock us with a flood of many answers. I just hope they will be the most unexpected possible.
Jacqualine - May 19, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
Outofmymind - May 19, 2006 06:28 PM (GMT)
I'm starting to think that all their subconscious thoughts have melted into one "reality" that plays inside their brains and they are all part of it. Its harder and harder to believe that the island is a real place. I think its all a huge mind game.
Trip56 - May 21, 2006 12:50 AM (GMT)
I saw Locke and Eko find another hatch a couple weeks ago and it clearly was an observation area where they could view the happenings in the other hatch. This leads me to believe that it's all a scientific, psychological experiment by this Dharma group. I'm hoping that they'll eventually rewind the tape and see Michael shooting Ana Lucia and Libby, then shooting himself and letting Henry Gale go. Libby died in front of Hurley and Jack, but before she died, she gasped out "Michael" and they thought she was expressing concern for him, but she was really trying to tell them he shot her.
I'm starting to tire of all the one step forward, two steps back stuff. Every time they answer one question, they throw you two more!
chunwing91 - May 21, 2006 04:16 AM (GMT)
This past episode wasn't very interesting. Even the cliffhanger wasn't that surprising.
The fact that The Pearl is a station that monitors The Swan for research purposes, it leads me to believe that another station is also monitoring The Pearl.
There's a wiki site of Lost. I think it's aclled LostPedia or something. Anyways, it's pretty interesting. It includes some really intriguing theories, one of which that says Mr. Friendly is Anthony Cooper.

I realy tend to think that they are inside some mental prison. They are all hallucinating, so it kinda makes sense.

I think the same thing....it has to be some kind of wierd other reality or something. Hopefully this season finale will be good...don't wanna be disappointed with two finales in one week.
Outofmymind - May 29, 2006 03:40 AM (GMT)
So now that the season is over, many questions are answered and many more are created... How the hell is Desmond's gf involved with the whole thing? who were the guys out at this north (or south) pole monitoring station? Was that the major EMP that they noticed? (Was it an EMP blast from the device inside the hatch?)
Is that magnet so strong to crash an airplane? Magnetism is not such a strong force realy. Thats why i'm inclined towards an EMP blast (Electro Magnetic Pulse) that can fry all the electronic equipment it finds inside the blast radius.
So what are your opinions on the season finale?
chunwing91 - May 29, 2006 03:46 AM (GMT)
I don't know much about magnets, but a magnet that can pull a plane down surely must have some effect on the Earth's own magnetic fields.
Cheetah521 - May 29, 2006 03:56 AM (GMT)
I thought it was good but i think it wouldve helped if i had seen the whole season...darn results shows!!

So after Elliott was eliminated I decided to get into Lost because it is AI's ratings rival and I wanted to watch the Lost finale instead of AI :). Wound up watching AI after all, but after becoming acquainted with Lost by downloading episodes and reading transcripts and recaps, I think I am hooked! I just finished watching parts 1 and 2 of Live Together, Die Alone. Since I kinda threw myself into the series I think I don't know WHAT to be asking at this point. Do you guys think there even is an explanation yet for everything that is going on? Have the writers even figured it out yet, themselves? :)
What was up with that broken four-toed statue? Why did Mr. Friendly bother with wearing a fake beard? What was going on with Walt; why was he "more than [they] bargained for"? Walt's "special" characteristics have been alluded to before; is this ever going to be explained or resolved? What was that giant green bird thing? Are we going to see the smoke monster again and what was it anyway? And the notebooks in the pneumatic tubes being dumped in the middle of nowhere? What is going on with Libby; why was she in the mental hospital in one flashback and a completely coiffed widow giving away a boat in another flashback? Is her deceased husband David the "Dave" from Hurley's visions? What is Penelope's role in all of this? How did those guys in the arctic (or where ever) pick up that electromagnetic signal and how did Penelope know that that was what they needed to look for to find Desmond? AAAAH! :clubbed:
chunwing91 - May 30, 2006 01:58 AM (GMT)
Well, none of those questions can be answered as of yet  ;however, you are asking the same questions the rest of us are. You bring up an interesting point. Could Libby's husband, David, be Hurley's Dave? Wasn't Hurley's Dave in the mental ward, too? Of course, Libby could be lying

Oh I didn't even think of that....
I always forget about the minor chars that we see!
Like Locke and Sayid's honey..... or uhm... Desmond and that military guy that met Sayid...
or any of the other ones. The only reason I ever learn about them is from message boards heh...
I can't wait for next season though!! That finale just had me floored. Of course nothing was as shocking as Michael shooting AL and Libs, but that finale was just... WOW!
With the weird statue, to them taking Kate, Jack, Sawyer.. and wondering what happened to Desmond (he better not be dead) Eko & Locke... etc.
What did get on my nerves though was how the chars (specially Charlie) just totally forgot about the people in the hatch.
No instead he just sits there with Claire flirting with her instead of seeing if they're ok.
Or how these people just don't react when something weird happens. They NEVER ASK QUESTIONS!
I sure as heck know if all of a sudden there was blinding lavender light and deafening noise.. I would be wondering WTH was going on and trying to find out!

Nooo kidding. When asked about them, Charlie just looked blank and said "They aren't back yet?" What was up with that? SO weird.

LOL. Did I make you angry? Kate is no angel. She doesn't deserve the good guy. Only on TV I like bad boys. And Sawyer is a GOOD bad boy. Plus he is hot. The doctor is nice but he has no sex appeal. I think there is more physical chemistry between Kate and Sawyer. But she'll probably end up being with Jack.

God I hope they kill her.... sorry to Kate fans :P heh
I just can't freaking stand her anymore.
She's become way WAY too cocky and I hate the way she goes from one guy to the next then back to the other guy and blah blah blah.
Someone just needs to smack the crap out of her.. I'd happily volunteer for that role.. even if I did get eaten by the smoke monster the second after heh.

I LOVE Lost! I have the DVDs and recorded season 2 on tape. They are not sleeping or in Purgatory, the writers said so on a TV special once. Did anybody else notice that Kelvin was the same guy who made Sayid torture his friend in that one flashback? And for anyone who recorded the Finale, in the scene where Kelvin is telling Desmond about the invisible map and they are talking about the army and stuff, there is a song plaing in the backround and it sounds JUST LIKE Elliott! It's freaky.
Now, we all know the numbers show up EVERYWHERE, but have you noticed the repeat of names?
Tom was Kate's doctor boyfriend, one of the other's names is Tom, Thomas was Claires boyfriend and Aaron's father, and Tommy sold heroine to Charlie
Sam was the guy who first heard the numbers, and Sam is also the name of Kate's 'father'.
Dave was Hurley's imaginary friend, David was Libby's hubby, another David was about to fall victum to Sawyer's con plans, and Desmond's middle name is David.

Zekbee, I know you posted a month ago, but I just found this thread and read all your questions. I thought I'd post some of what I know/guess!
What was up with that broken four-toed statue?
They said next year would be about the history of the island (what happened before the plane crashed, even before Dharma in the 70's), so I figure the statue has to do with that..
Why did Mr. Friendly bother with wearing a fake beard?
They don't want the people to know anything about them for some reason. Like when that lady is explaining what Kate was saying and she says "They know your beard's fake, Tom." He says "Well thanks for telling them my name!" I don't know why but they don't want anything known about themselves..
What was going on with Walt; why was he "more than [they] bargained for"? Walt's "special" characteristics have been alluded to before; is this ever going to be explained or resolved?
I'm sure we will find out eventually, but as of now I have no idea!
What was that giant green bird thing?
I have a funny story about that green bird thing... On the season finale of season 1, some of the survivors were walking through the woods. That bird flew away and made it's weird sound.
SO many people online were swearing that the bird said "Hurley - swearing on their lives - that it was important.
So then during the season 2 finale, the bird shows up again, makes it's strange noise, flies away and Hurley says "did that just say my name?".. Asking what several viewers thought. The response? Sawyer: "Yeah, right before it pooped gold." In other words, "you're crazy!" :lmao:
...But as for what it is, NO idea!
Are we going to see the smoke monster again and what was it anyway?
As of now we don't know for sure what it is, but the writers said we would see a lot more of it next season.
And the notebooks in the pneumatic tubes being dumped in the middle of nowhere?
Here's what I think that was about: The survivors live in one hatch (hatch A. ). Some of them found another hatch (that I will call Hatch B ). Hatch A's purpose was to push the button every 108 minutes. There was even a video that explained that. When they watched the video from Hatch B, it said that Hatch A was not real. It was just an experiment to see if the people in Hatch A would push the button without knowing what it did, and that the button really didn't do anything.
The people in Hatch B were supposed to watch the people in Hatch A, write down EVERYTHING they did, and then send the filled notebooks bakc to "base" through those tubes.
During the season finale, Locke tells Desmond that pushing the button doesn't do anything, that it's just an experiment to see how long they will do it. Desmond asks what if they are doing something important and it's the poeple in Hatch B that are part of the experiment?
When we see the pile of notebooks, it lets us realize that the notebooks that the Hatch B people filled out were never read, were not important at all! It tells us that Hatch B was the one that was being fooled after all.
What is going on with Libby; why was she in the mental hospital in one flashback and a completely coiffed widow giving away a boat in another flashback?
I think those took place years apart, but I don't know why she was in the mental hospital! I hear that Libby will be in several flashback next season as well...
Is her deceased husband David the "Dave" from Hurley's visions? What is Penelope's role in all of this? How did those guys in the arctic (or where ever) pick up that electromagnetic signal and how did Penelope know that that was what they needed to look for to find Desmond? AAAAH!

You have to wonder if the people behind the show aren't reading the various boards. I think they are. I would love it if it turned out that they added the line about Hurley hearing the bird call his name just because lot of people had posted that they think they heard it the first time the bird was seen.
Okay, on a totally different subject (still about Lost, though), has anyone seen the Edy's ice cream commercial with the guy being followed into the store by the people with spoons? I swear the guy looks just like Henry Gale. I wonder if it's the same actor?

Wow! That is weird! I have to go watch it now!
And for the creators reading boards, they've said that they do, but it's not gonna effect their plans for the show. Though I do think it was probably the reason for the addition of the "Hurley" bird scene. ;)

It's not seriously saying Hurley's name. People online thought it was, so they made fun of that by having Hurley think it was saying his name.
