Title: Stop The Lakisha Bashing
pilatesmom - April 26, 2007 05:57 AM (GMT)
Seriously, I can't believe everyone jumping on her. It's obvious the producers want her out, and some many are jumping on that bandwagon.
So what she sang Fantasia?
Chris sang Clapton. and was praised. what the heck?
No, go and ahead and bash her more, it makes more people like me ready to power vote her.
ElliottCat101 - April 26, 2007 06:48 AM (GMT)
What's wrong with people posting their opinions? :dunno: That's part of the magic of the show: The contestant one person loves is also the contestant another person despises.
I'm sorry you're having a hard time with the fact that some people don't like Lakisha, but there's nothing wrong with them saying it.
And since you mentioned Chris....
If you think it's hard being a Lakisha fan and putting up with the negative comments she gets, try being a Chris fan! Some people even hated him before he made the top 24! Now *that's* annoying!
But if people want to hate on him -- go ahead! They have all the right to hate him and I have all the right to say that I think he did well!

I agree with Elliottcat. So far I've seen no outright bashing of Lakisha on this board like I have with Chris Richardson. If you are making this about what I said, then you obviously didn't read the entire page because it was a joke, in fact I even made OG laugh. And he replied by saying sorry kiki fans, so he obviously got the joke as well. I admit I don't care for her, but I've never come right out and say I hate her and that she needs to go home. Like many people are doing with Chris. And see you are saying to stop the Lakisha bashing yet you go right back out and bring in Chris.
We have our favorites, and I have never come back and attacked someone who said they didn't like Blake, or felt he was insincere, or that he didn't deserve to be here. I did say that sometimes it seemed like Lakisha sang just because she could and I admit that. Sometimes I feel that she is sometimes disconnected but I of course said this nearly two weeks ago.
If I was really harsh to any contestant it's Phil, and which I have admitted that I was completely wrong. But I never came out, again, and said I absolutely hated the poor guy, like so many people are doing with Chris.
Like Elliottcat101 said, if you think being a Lakisha fan is hard, then I hate to see what Chris Richardson fans are going through trying to be his fan.

someone please define "bashing".
I do not like Lakisha or Chris Richardson. One oversings, and the other sings through his nose.
Did I just "bash" saying that? So be it.
DoxieChickLuvsE - April 26, 2007 01:36 PM (GMT)
I have heard a few people say they don't like Lakisha, but no bashing. I agree that Chris R has taken a far more beating then she has. I have felt badly for Chris R. fans since the onset of the show since he seems to be one of the most "unloved" of the contestants this year. That is why I don't jump on the Chris R. bashwagon...because he is not THAT bad, but he is not THAT great either (just my opinion of course).
But we should really not restrict a member's thoughts if it is contrary to our own for so long as they are respectful. Pilatesmom I can appreciate your Kiki love, but some just thought it was very poor choices to sing two Idol songs back to back. I think it risky for an idol to even sing ONE well known former Idol song. There was other feedback from guests she ignored and I also believe she behaved a bit hardheaded and it backfired.
That is not a bash. A bash would be if people were calling her names, unfairly talking about her weight, or just unnecessary criticism. Opinions should be okay. I have a contrary opinion to the popular vote quite often, but it is just my opinion.
elliottfan78 - April 26, 2007 01:58 PM (GMT)
I liked Lakisha at first but I've noticed that she has gotten a diva attitude lately and that has turned me off.
As for bashing - I consider it bashing if you call her rude names or something mean like that. I haven't really seen that on this board.
SoulMusicRocks - April 26, 2007 02:46 PM (GMT)
I thought LaKisha sang "I Believe" very well. There were only acouple parts where I thought it was strained, but it was her best singing over the last few weeks. It's difficult because of comparisons, but you could make that argument for all of the contestants in comparison to the original. Either way, my opinion of LaKisha is more positive this week. I thought she conveyed the emotion and connected to the song.
terriberriez - April 26, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
I like Kiki. I do not like Chris Richardson. :)

I also thought she (lakisha) sang better this week. The fantasia song was far better than the carrie u song. But as soon as i realized she was going to sing Fantasia's single from season four i winced for her because i realized no matter how good she did, the judges were going to give her flack for it. Reason being is they love Fantasia so much that i KNEW they were going to be negative about her singing another idol song - especially a Fantasia one. She also went against guest judges feedback and many voters perceived that to be disrespectful even if she had her own good reasons. I thought it odd for a newcomer to just totally disregard the guest judges myself.
I think lakisha is a great singer. I think her popularity decline might be poor song choices (i think a few were not the best choice but that does not mean i think she sounded terrible on them. she is a great singer I dont think that is really up for debate. It would be like me saying kat is ugly. I may not like Kat, but kat being pretty is not really up for debate. she just is)....and i think her stand offishness didn't help a lot of viewers connect to her. Now Pilatesmom I know that many performers are driven and concentrating and that the stand offishness might not mean she is not sociable or friendly, but most of the viewers are just average amercians. They are not performers so they misconstrue it with just being aloof and not real connected.
The only TRUE common theme on Etrain is we ALL LOVE ELLIOTT. NO doubt. When it comes to OTHER idols, we will ALL vary a bit. Some will love one idol, others will hate that idol, and so on....and many like me in between. I do not have a HUGE affinity for any of them this year but if i had to pick a fave i guess I'd have to say melinda. Not just for her vocals. She is the only one i felt some type of connection to.
I also blame idol for this. They did not do enough of getting these idols into our living room each week other than singing.
Cheetah521 - April 26, 2007 08:12 PM (GMT)
I personally dont think that I've heard any Lakisha bashing, at least not here. I think that everyone seems to have their favorite contestant(s) and she just isnt one of them. I dont think that anyone has a problem with her, I just think that there's always a contestant that is liked more than her.
I like her, I think she has an amazing voice, she just doesnt capture my attention like the other contestants do, to be honest I think she's a little boring. As far as her song choices, I cringe a little when I hear her sing other AI contestants songs because there's no way she can escape the comparison to the original. I think she would stand out and be able to make more of a name for herself if she sang more "original" songs.
amandarhea - April 26, 2007 09:28 PM (GMT)
i havent seen any bashing for any idol, but Sanjaya. If you want to talk about bashing. I havent seen anyone bash Chris like someone said, there are alot of people who dislike him but you can dislike and not bash. point is with Chris, he sings out of his nose, and its awful. Mayberry that he sang country night, was not originaly sung like that. KiKi is great is she the winner no. When my guy got voted off, i didnt know if i would like anyone else but tuesday i became a Blaker Girl, even though i do love Phil. Actually i love all of them but Chris, the show has pimped him IMO. Not as much as they did Chris D last year though. But honestly i havent seen KiKi bashing....i know i went all over the place with that, but i had to say some of that stuff.

I guess I thought bashing someone was like others have stated- calling them names, or making rude comments about their appearance. I haven't seen that. I actually liked Lakisha to begin with, when she sang "And I am telling you..." she brought me to tears. My biggest gripe has been her song choices. I don't feel that is a bash on her.
To me, the biggest problem with picking a former Idol's song is people watching AI are really invested in some of those people. I don't think an "Idol" is really in the same category as other singers. And I say that because people feel like they really know these people. They went on this journey with them and they feel like they are family in some way. That is why I felt it a mistake to choose their songs. I personally would never suggest it to any of them. Not because I wouldn't feel as though they could sing it but rather Idol fans don't want to hear it from anyone else. That is strictly my opinion though.
And as far as Chris, he is not my favorite. But that is based on my personal preference in music. I don't like the nasal tone. I don't have a problem with Chris at all. He actually seems like a pretty nice kid. When he first started I thought he was trying to tie himself with Elliott in some way. I was annoyed somewhat but I also found it to be pretty smart on his part. Now I think Chris is Chris. He has made his own way. I still don't prefer him though and I guess I think that is ok for me to say.

I've never bashed LaKisha. I never thought that LaKisha sounded bad...I think she's made some poor decisions on song selection. The 2 Idol songs (Carrie's & Fantasia's) because of the comparison and the fact that most viewers are almost too familiar with these songs. I also think she should listen to the celeb singers who work with them, too. She def should have listened to LuLu instead of singing the diamond song. She kinda ignored Tony Bennett's advice on the ending of the song for that week, too. I think she's not open enough to let people help her. I loved her in the beginning, but lately she seems so closed off emotionally. I'd like to see more emotion when she sings. She's definintely a great singer, though. That's just an opinion. Not bashing.

Agree totally.
It's just opinions. I think LaKisha oversings and I like Chris's personality better and if he just works on the nasality problem he'd be fine (on some of his better performances he has been able to shake the nasal tone and sounds really good)

I loved Lakisha.....didn't watch last night's show, I could care less. I'm waiting for tonight to hear our Elliott sing. :)
