Title: Please Reconsider Moving The Requesting Threads...
Description: back to News and Updates ASAP
alienhamster - May 3, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
Objectively speaking, the voting/requesting is THE most important "update" we have to be concerned about right now. Elliott's really to start to hit it big, and new and regular members don't always know on a daily basis where and when to vote.
I understand arguments against thread proliferation and putting things in their proper "subforum" and such, but placing voting updates in a completely unfrequented subforum is really not a good idea. Voting for Jojo's, for example, is THE biggest daily concern we should have.
I urge the mods to reconsider ASAP.

This is wrong, on so many levels. It must be reconsidered...and pronto.
As more stations add, we may see a resurgence in the song face-offs.
JoJo, XM, The Indy Poll, etc. must be front and center, especially for the non-common visitors who show up irregularly.
The only one potentially harmed by the disappearance of the polls from News and Updates is Mr.Yamin.
parsimmon - May 3, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
For me, I wish it was in updates. That's the only forum I visit consistently.
itslate - May 3, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
I was thinking the same. Why are these threads being moved all of a sudden. I was counting on seeing them posted in news as a reminder to vote. All related to getting those numbers up and getting radio play.
Please, can we leave them be. This isn't quite like voting on who was the best last year in AI polls.
PDXJon - May 3, 2007 05:16 AM (GMT)
Then, why is there a "Polls & Voting" forum if all the polls and votings threads are going to pop-up in the "Updates & News". Sometimes, I can't find the updates and news because that thread is oversaturated by polls and voting threads. I agree that those are important, too, but, sometimes, real news and updates get buried to second page or deeper due to the voting and polling threads that should be in their appropriate forum. This just my opinion, of course.
How about if the "Polls & Voting" forum is moved to the top of the page, so it has more prominence? This will give it more prominence than it perhaps now does not have. Then the "Updates & News" can truly be for what it's supposed to be.
But, I guess the MODs will have to do what's best for everyone.
itslate - May 3, 2007 05:22 AM (GMT)
Well I guess my point is this isn't actually voting, but requesting.

I see your point.
But "requesting" isn't exactly "updates" or "news" either.
I'm mincing words, and I know I shouldn't be making a big deal about this.
Again, it's up to the MODs, I guess.
itslate - May 3, 2007 05:38 AM (GMT)
Well you know, probably the best place for them would be FYI: Promo "Team" Links, Tips and Happenings. It does deal with promotion. Is News the most visited of all the threads? I think we've been through this before... afraid of moving info where it couldn't be seen.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
ohioguy45780 - May 3, 2007 11:28 AM (GMT)
Significantly, we have finally broken the XM barrier this week, getting some spins....
We have also got to keep on beat with JoJos....that is such an important request each and every evening. It proves to Kiis-FM that their decision to play him the rest of the day is justified. As someone told me, it's the largest market he's playing in, and a loss there spells a downward path -- the single loses its bullet.
We will have additional adds this week as he makes top 30. You WILL see some more song faceoffs. We need them front and center of the site...and that is the "News & Updates" section.
I do not understand the rationale of moving the voting threads. It is wrong, period.
kagey - May 3, 2007 11:39 AM (GMT)
Hopefully this will help put in perspective the importance of keeping Elliott high on the KIIS 9@9 and keeping his ranking high - now at #6
WFY's total listening audience is 7.958 and KIIS accounts for 2.811 of that!!
Voting here is sooooo important!

ohioguy45780 - May 3, 2007 12:17 PM (GMT)
yes, voting there is the MOST important, but many of the non-diehards, who only visit sporadically, will miss the voting/requesting threads.
PDXJon - May 3, 2007 12:51 PM (GMT)
I don't understand how voting/requesting threads could be missed if they were in the correct forum. Perhaps "Votings & Polls" can be renamed "Voting, Requests, & Polls" and moved to the top, right above "Updates & News". In this way, diehards and non-diehards can visit the "Voting" threads as much as the "Updates" threads because they're together and more obvious.
I'm just a big fan of "a place for everything and everything in its place", I guess.
ohioguy45780 - May 3, 2007 12:56 PM (GMT)
As has been stated, the most IMPORTANT "update" and "news" right now IS radio airplay, requesting, and voting.
Kagey confirms that Kiis-Fm is accounting for about 1/3 of all airplay impressions, so JoJo's continues to be one of the most important places right now. Contiunued success in L.A. means his eventual airplay in NY and Chicago is pretty much guaranteed.
PDXJon - May 3, 2007 12:57 PM (GMT)
Everything is relative, and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I guess I'm done here.
alienhamster - May 3, 2007 02:06 PM (GMT)
Jon,
I agree with your basic premise, but habit dictates practice more than order/structure sometimes. People don't all log on here to necessarily seek out reminders to vote/request, even though they very much appreciate having the reminders (as far as I've been told). Since people don't regularly visit the polls/voting forum--and they won't necessarily think to seek out reminders there--it's a really damaging move to shift like this suddenly. I'd be more amenable if we had started this practice BEFORE all of this airplay started, but why in the world would we shift a major routine midstream?
And for what? If we're being honest, only 15% of threads posted in news and updates properly constitute "news and updates," and the majority of that is in Nancy's thread. Despite its name, its function has become "Here's the most important/urgent/exigent thing for all the Etrain to know about right now!" forum. And I'm totally fine with that.
Why not take an approach like, "Let's try reduce the number of requesting threads" rather than such an extreme movement all of a sudden?
I just don't get the rationale . . .
realitymom - May 3, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
I always click the link at the bottom of the home page, titled 'Todays Active Topics', so I am able to see ALL the updates, news, requests, polls, where to vote & anything else people are posting about. (Thanks to MJ for the heads up on that link BTW! )
Maybe making the members more aware of this link would help eliminate the concern of what threads are placed in what forum, as the link will show you all the active threads, irregardless of the forum.
Just an idea...

I dig this idea! Hehe.
Seriously, I really appreciate what everyone is doing to help promote Elliott and keep him relevant. I’ll just go with the flow.
