Title: "one Word" Should Definitely Be The Next Single

rockermanross - May 15, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
I've been listening to my Elliott CD over and over again and have come to the conclusion that "One Word" has huge potential for being a radio hit, even more than "Wait for You" possibly.

It's not my favorite song on the CD by far but it definitely has radio hit written all over it. I hope they release this song as a single. I would love to see 2 Elliott songs in the top 10! B)

I don't know. I still sort of think that they should release one of the fast ones first, like Movin' On or Alright, to show his versatility, because it seems that versatility might be something you need to sell a whole *album.* (don't know whether this is true or not, though ... )

I definitely would release One Word, because I agree that it seems to have the potential to be a monster hit. But I kind of think the monster hit can wait to be the third single ...

vanbrew - May 15, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
I think he should release a more uptempo song as his next single to show his diversity. Although it's not my favorite song, "Alright" could be a big summertime hit. It could be a multi-format smash.

I agree with releasing a more "uptempo" song as his second single.

LOL..... the debate continues.

Elliott's team should release as a second single the song that has the broadest chance of radio play, and of appealing to potential *new* fans.

"One Word" is an easy hit.

"Movin' On" seems to be being test-marketed, and could be a sleeper hit, a la Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts". It's a great intro song to the CD, but that doesn't necessarily make it single-worthy.

"Alright" could be a crossover hit; they should try it in clubs and see how it plays out. Easily remixed versions could dominate the club scene.

Everyone has a preference. My fave song is "Train Wreck", but should it be released as a single? Nope.

It's a moot point right now anyway, WFY could have another 2-3 months of radio play.
Remember, Daughtry had 5-6 months of "It's Not Over" before "Home". While it's great to think of the future, I'm keeping my eye on the here and now.

One Word or Alright...imo;)

atlantiskat - May 15, 2007 03:13 PM (GMT)
I AGREE, ONE WORD SHOULD BE THE NEXT SINGLE. I LOVE THAT SONG.

I ALSO LOVE I'LL MAKE YOU DANCE AND I THINK THAT WOULD DO REALLY WELL

Stargate songs are usually hits....One Word is a Stargate song. Regardless of what we all like best...they should release the most likely song to be a big hit next...and that is One Word.

i would love for that to be the next single, but they will make the choices based on a variety of reasons i may not be privvy too.

I do know this, "One Word" has been the song that has been played over and over in my head SINCE last night! I can't get it out of my head.

And IMO that is the sign of a hit. One that really gets in the head....out of all the songs i heard last night for some reason that one is a standout and continues to dance around in my brain.

:elliottelliott: i love this smiley. LOL

That one does get lodged in the brain easily.

Whichever would get him the most recognition. I don't really listen to any stations that are not oldies or country so it doesn't matter to me, I can always listen to my faves on the album B)

oregonAIfan - May 19, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
I agree that "One Word" makes the most sense to release as the next single for E. Altho it's not my favorite song on the album, it does seem the most radio friendly to me.

tjvalerio - May 20, 2007 08:41 AM (GMT)
One Word should be the next single. It's one of the catchiest and most radio friendly on the album.

e5l11 - May 20, 2007 12:06 PM (GMT)
I really want it to be the next single. I vote at least 10 times a day at Kiss Fm - Jojo's website for it to be the next one. :D

elliottfan78 - May 20, 2007 03:05 PM (GMT)
I'm hoping for One Word to be released as a single. Also would love for You Are The One to be released as a single.

daveylow - May 20, 2007 04:53 PM (GMT)
I agree One Word should be a single soon. I also think You Are the One could be very popular, just not right after Wait for You. I'm the Man is also very catchy, especially from a guy's POV.

peppers23 - May 20, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
Before attending the Innsbrook concert, I would have disagreed with the idea of having "One Word" be the next single. But after seeing and hearing Elliott sing it live, I've done a 180. OMG, one word is right. This song is sung and performed in such an amazing fashion that it is sure to capture the attention of both the listening public and TPTB. It's the one song that really sticks in my head from the concert.

jojojam1204 - May 20, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
I love the song ONE WORD, but I don't think it should be the next release. I don't see it having the same appeal to the people who will buy Wait for You.. He needs to release a song that will appeal to that demographic still, because they have the money to buy and he needs to really "stick" to these people with another song.

I think Movin On or In Love with you Forever are 2 songs that are up beat and would entice the same demographic.

As much as we want what songs we like, we have to remember that we already like, I mean LOVE him. What we have to do is entice those on the fence to love him like we do. Then anything he sings will be a hit.

alienhamster - May 20, 2007 07:55 PM (GMT)
I think "Movin On" would also get more *men* on board the Etrain.

Can those of you in support of "One Word" as the next single explain your rationale a bit more--in particular, why should "One Word" be released BEFORE "Movin On" or something else uptempo? I think most of us agree that "One Word" should be released, but we disagree on when. I don't see any advantages to releasing it next (and before "movin on"), and I actually see some disadvantages (too similar to "Wait for You" in theme/production).

mike83 - May 20, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
I don't think Find A Way will make a good single because the lyrics are not the best. "The Rain is falling from the sky, it's getting harder to stay dry"? It also seems like E has a hard time getting that line out at parts. I love E's voice but the lyrics on that song leave a lot to be desired (IMO)

I agree with Alien, Movin' On will be huge. Stations that won't play WFY are already playing Movin' On. I see Movin' On attracting more guys and also getting on more R&B and Urban stations.

I think we need a little bit of a different kind of song and Movin' On feels that void until One Word is released.

Hi people, I havent posted in a really really long time.

I think One Word could be a big hit for E, but it's true that the company can release Alright to the clubs to test the market. However I believe, as funky as Alright is, it's too simplistic maybe. The refrain is cute and the melody is sick, but I think the chorus is waaayyy to simple. But hey, I could be wrong.

I also think that they need to reremix movin' on and rerelease it as a single though. It will be hot on the urban market. If someone can find me an acapella, I'll do it :) Hehe

E4me - May 23, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
I saw E last night in NY and based on the audience reaction both "One Word " and Movin On should be released. The crowd loved both. Maybe a remix of Movin On first ( good summer tune) followed by "One Word".

Elliott was awesome live.

musicploitation - May 23, 2007 06:23 PM (GMT)
I believe a lot of artist used to release a different remix for radio, when they want to make a song sounds fresh again. Remember J-Lo's I'm Real and Mariah's Thank God I Found You? It helped.

Movin' On did pretty well the first time around when it was just sent out as a teaser so to rerelease it again in its original format might seem a little old by the time Wait For You starts to fade. And he has been performing both tracks during his many interviews. But it's a great song nonetheless. Perfect for summer. So a tweaked version with better production could really do the song some good if that's gonna be the next single. Movin' On could, if freshened up, do well in both Top 40 and Urban/Rhythmic charts I think. I think even I'll Make You Dance have a better production than Movin On, so we know they can do it.

And seeing the confidence in Wait For You by the radio programmers, I believe his label could shell some moolah for a radio remix. I dont care if it's Stargate/Neyo remixing it, as long as it sounds good. I mean, if we're looking at his potential chance for reigning on radio and claiming a bigger, younger fanbase so what if it's Stargate again. Get some new beats, a rapper cameo for an urban radio remix (Elliott featuring Common, think abt that...yum)..a better block party style video..it will be hot! America will be dancing to this all summer long! Hehe.

Or rerecord Movin' On as funked up jam like his live performances. More earthy. More funky. Could work too. Even hotter if Stevie Wonder could cameo (now..I'm getting too far)..

One Word is a must release. Second or third single. I see a number one song there.

Other than that...You Are The One is perfect too. If only someone with a hook up on Grey Anatomy could get that acoustic version to cameo in one of the episodes. Another big hit.

By this time, the album would be flying off the roof!!

musicploitation - May 23, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
and ooh...You Are The One..is so Best Male Vocal Grammy kind of thing. (so is Trainwreck..so maybe that a single too later in the year as grammy season approaches?)

but I think Wiat for You will be a bigger hit

Rick1965 - May 25, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
I agree that One Word is a better song than Alright, and probably more radio friendly but two slow songs in a row might pigeon hole Elliott as a slow ballad singer and he is so much more than that. Radio stations might be less inclined to play him if it seems to be in the same vein. I think Alright (or Movin On or even my personal favorite...at least this hour....I'll Be Loving You Forever) have the chance at being seen as something different and new...then you follow up with another brilliant slow song like One Word...I wish I gave my real job this much thought!!

No kidding, Rick - haha! I agree with not having another slow song yet, even though I love One Word. I'm never right about anything though, so I guess I'll just wait to see what happens.

Do you think E will launch his second single on the July 4th PBS show, or will they select patriotic music for him? I think One Word would work well.
I watched the Memorial Day equivalent of the July 4th show. The equivalent talent was Natalie Cole and Josh Turner. This is truly an honor for Elliott and valuable exposure.
Interested as to what others think.

I Love Elliott - May 29, 2007 10:49 PM (GMT)
One Word and Wait For You sound too much the same for it to be released next.

Alright (or Movin On) should be the next single. They both make me want to "move".

Alright is my favorite song on the CD.

XBelle89x - June 9, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
This is my fave track, it should definitely be a single.

Jaja - June 11, 2007 03:00 AM (GMT)
I love the song, One Word, but it really shouldn't be released as the next single. There's some similarity with Wait for You so I don't think it would be a great move to release it right after. I definitely think it should be released at some point - maybe as a third or fourth single. But, I think he really needs to release an uptempo song like Alright. It could be a huge summer hit. Do a club remix or something and it will be all over the charts.

Maybe before that - they could try re-releasing Movin' On as a single and see how many radio stations pick it up. Like musicploitation said, do a more stripped-down, funky version and release it to radio. I can see it doing really well too. But, if it doesn't take off, then release Alright.

After that, then release One Word because it is a defnite hit. And then maybe the acoustic You are the One.

Whatever their decision is, I'm sure it will be a good one. If his next single does well on the charts, his sales will be amazing. Usually, people are more enticed to buy an album when they hear two or three good singles off the album.

I can't wait!

MOMster - June 11, 2007 03:05 AM (GMT)
I love One Word, but am so-so about Wait For You - so I guess I don't see them being that similar. I hope they decide to release something more uptempo - I really like I'll Make You Dance - it's upbeat and sexay!!

ElliottisTrueBlue - June 11, 2007 03:40 PM (GMT)
I'll Make You Dance was my original idea, but do you think they could do it since it's only a bonus track on the Target album? I think it would do fantastic and probably draw the largest age group (it's modern, but has an old-school funk/disco feel to it for older listeners who remember that time)

musicmovesme - June 12, 2007 01:08 AM (GMT)
I love the retro disco sound of "I'll Make You Dance". I'm sure others would too if they got a chance to hear it. I don't know if it should be a single due to not actually being on the cd. "I'm In Love With You Forever" is a fantastic little song that I think in time will become a favorite. Glad he included it in his concerts.

"Movin' On" is great as is....maybe a little remixing. I don't know if it is going to catch on widely but I really love it.

Still think the potential of "Alright" as a hot single is being overlooked. My son (just for fun) remixed it on our studio equipment. He put in a bunch of the guitar licks he could hear Russell and co. playing in concert (and a few of his own). Said he loves the rhythm, and everything else about the song, just didn't like the mix of it on the cd like he did the live version--something was missing from it. He was right--BINGO it's the guitar! I'm telling you this song is catchy as fire.

If they remix it to keep the Latin beats but throw out the cheesy choir singing (ala "Shaft"), keep the booming background beat reminiscent of an R&B "We Will Rock You" (this is SO awesome) and puts in a few of those echoey sound effects on the vocals (like in concert) and throws in some great bass and rhythmic/lead rock guitar licks it could be a simultaneous hit on Urban/R&B/Rhythmic/Pop/Latin AND Rock radio. It doesn't have a fancy melody or words---which all E fans think is a requirement for his beautiful voice don't we?--- but that doesn't matter at all because the song itself COOKS rhythmically and offsets his fiery, sexy vocals. It's no wonder he is using it for his opening number to get crowds worked up because it is hella hot. Reminds me of U2's "Elevation" a few years back in a way (maybe even catchier). I would like to know what some of you who have heard it live think? I was watching the Portland version and blown away again by the hit potential of the song (apart from E's vocals). If Elliott doesn't make a hit out of this I hope some rock band snatches it.
