Title: Wfy And I Never Had A Dream Come True
Description: How similar are they?

Our local DJ just played WFY and when it was over he said, "I really like that song but I'm waiting for the lawsuit." He then explained that it was very similar to "I Never Had a Dream Come True" by S Club 7. He then played a snippet of the S Club 7 and the similarity of the opening was apparent. I had read this comparison on several other forums too. I found a video on You Tube and since I cannot keep 2 sequential notes in my memory let alone a melody, I'd like to learn what some of the musically-inclined members of the forum think.

Here's the link to the video:

No worries.....
The intro is very similar...different instrumentation....one note difference in intro melody.
BUT, the actual melody of the song is NOT similar. Totally different chord structure.
Musicians fall upon similar melodies for intros all the time. Doesn't make it the same song. As a matter of fact, some nowadays use samples of actual parts of hit songs and it doesn't make it the same song. Case in fact....Supertramp samples ALL THROUGH Cupids Chokehold song.
This song is DEFINITELY not like Wait For You.

Anyone remember theme from Ghostbusters and Huey Lewis's I want a new Drug?
Now THAT was similar.

PS....DJ's ALWAYS think they are musicians. They are usually just musician wannabe's

That's a good point Tra,

Everytime I hear John Mayer's song Gravity, they have a little part of the song that is clearly from Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On" as a tribute. I thought it was very cool, but also wondered if they needed to get permission to do it.

Tra's right. The intro is a little similar but the rest is different.

Anyone remember MC Hammer's Can't Touch This? The beat to that one is similar to Superfreak!

Wow, thanks I learn something every time I log on. It's frustrating to be so muscially inept, but on the other hand not being able to tell pitchy from nonpitchy allows me to enjoy the performances a lot more.:)

Oh wow yeah,
I had forgotten about that one. There was a lawsuit on that one too, wasn't there?

Also, have you heard the new version of Superfreak with Ricky Skaggs?

One word.....awesome.

yeah, the songs are kinda similar... but they're not *exactly* the same, the just have some similarities...

most songs on the radio these days remind me of some other song.
