Title: Discussion On Sf Strategy

Sk8888 - May 21, 2007 12:43 AM (GMT)
Hi Everyone,

We have several members from the Etrain who have been conscientiously working stations in San Francsico, and in particular K101.3.

Here's a link to the station's current playlist, where you'll notice they are not shy about playing AI artists:

http://www.star1013fm.com/pages/starmusic.html

The challenge is that they continue to intruduce Kat's "Over It" as new music, and JUST LAST WEEK, added Taylor Hicks to the Playlist after he was in San Francisco and appeared at DJ Don Bleu's anniversary party....perhaps having to "kiss the ring," so to speak...

Since they are so slow to pick up new artists and new music, we have had to bide our time, but I was hoping for a breakthrough before Elliott arrives in town for his concert on June 12th.

I've only managed to speak with one DJ, and it was within days of Elliott's WFY release, clearly way too early to be calling on them. Since then, I don't know of anyone who has managed to speak to anyone other than an on-duty producer. Otherwise the phone usually just ringa and rings.

K101 is part of the AT40 group and so the song must have gotten one spin on K101 this weekend, but I didn't hear it or see it on yes.com

If anyone happened to see this spin on yes.com, please post here. It will be the next way that people in the Bay area can call into request.

Thanks everyone!

I was looking at AT40's website and it looks like there's two different charts - Top 40 and HAC. Could it be that Elliott only charted on the Top 40 and this station played the HAC chart? There were some new HAC stations added today but maybe a station has a choice of which chart to play. It's a theory. What do you think? I know that KIOI 101.3 has a HAC format.

Isn't 104.9 sponsoring Elliott at Slims? If so, why aren't they playing Elliott?
I got this impression from this page that Elliott was being presented by 104.9.

I looked at the Slim's website that you linked and I don't think 104.9 is sponsoring Elliott. I saw that they were sponsoring Flyleaf, but not E. The way they've ordered the paragraphs, they're mentioning if there's a particular sponsorship for each specific paragraph listing. That's how it looks to me.

Channel 104.9 presents:
FLYLEAF (6/8) -

NEKROMANTIX (6/9) -
IMA ROBOT (6/10) -

ELLIOTT YAMIN (6/12) -

MAD SIN (6/15) -

I got the impression that 104.9 was presenting all the above acts. Followed by

Sean Healy presents:

ETA: I looked at the site..and now..I'm seeing it from your point of view. Those that have presenters have the presenter before their ad.
It was confusing to me. :)

One way to work this is to call these stations and inquire if they will be giving any free tickets or backstage passes to the show in upcoming contests. This is a way to show "demand" to see him and also inform the stations' DJs of the concert.

In the case of 104.9, you can specifically say that you saw they were sponsoring the concert series and wondered if any free tickets would be given away.

Except Movin's right..they aren't sponsoring Elliott. It's listed in chronological order...not radio presenter order. I don't know how I saw it the way I did initially, other than......I always thought a radio sponsored the shows and gave away tickets.

Movin' it definitely feels like K101 is HAC, and KOIT is one step away from Muzak, being an Easy Listening station at work.

It's worth a try to contact the station that has "mislisted" Elliott's concert on its website, just to touchbase with another group of radio station people.

I just went through the list of SF radio stations, and I found an Urban Top 40 station...wild 94.9.

I'll try to find some email links, but the Playlist is similar to others where Elliott has also found a home.

What do you think?

There aren't really any Top 40 stations listed except for the Kohl station in Fremont, CA. SF is very AC heavy from the looks of it.

I still think it's important to keep trying at KIOI as HAC formats are increasingly playing WFY. Rhythmic is just starting to happen. KYLD 94.9 is like a lite-Rhythmic station so it's more likely than most others.

I found a E-Quest link there: http://wild949.com/pages/equest.html

No giving up Movin', just perhaps expanding the requesting.

The local 94.9 station playlist looks and feels a lot like WNOU in Indianapolis.

I don't know if I mentioned that it is owned by Clear Channel. So, it will be interesting to see if they feature Elliott as prominently as other Clear Channel stations when Elliott is Artist of the Month in June.

K101 is big on give aways. If Elliott's promo people could get together with K101's promo people for some concert ticket giveaway's that could be another way to push for some WFY spins.

The following stations should be playing WFY here in the Bay area:

KOIT 96.5 FM - AC Light
KIOI 101.3 FM - Pop and plays Idols
KISS FM 98.1 FM - R&B
Movin 99.7 FM
KKIQ 101.7 FM
KMEL 106.1

For Movin On, I do see
94.9 FM Wild 94.9

104.9 FM is Alternative Rock. I'm surprised they are sponsoring Elliott. I'll check out their website.

Ticket giveaway is a really good idea...and also would double as
advertisement for the concert at Slims....
