Title: Target Pricing Holding Firm At $14.99
Sk8888 - May 22, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
Hi All!
When I did my inventory check of Elliott's CD's at a huge Target in Walnut Creek, California, I found that he had two colums of three bins for a total of 48 CD's. At the time I was there, the number left was already down to 12.
What I find so amazing is that almost all of the other "Top Sellers" were on sale for either $11 or $9 something, while Elliott's CD was still at $14.99.
I know that other retailers have already begun decreasing the price of Elliott's CD, (Amazon comes to mind,) but it makes his sales numbers all the more amazing when you know that artists like Nelly Furtado are constantly "on sale," and except for the first week of release, I have not seen this for Elliott's CD at Target.

Well what I find in my area is that Elliott only has two or three CD's on the shelf everytime I check. My personal opinion is that the stores are not stocking enough. I can only hope that Im just catching times that they have already sold alot of his music. Anyway I always make sure to move at least one to the best seller section. I usually place it right between Chris and Carrie Underwood. When are stores going to wise up and put alot on the shelf. His numbers wont go up as fast as they should if the fans can find the CD.

Really annoys me too. People just don't "get it" do they? Something else I've wondered about - at release time, we understood the intial distribution would be 250k. Since we are nearing that number in sales (I realize some are download sales), does anyone know if there is to be a 2nd distribution soon and if so, how many?

well, he's probably went to a second pressing already. The # of CDs pressed will be determined by how strong sales have been. Since the CD has now had a couple of good weeks, the second pressing should be a fair amount. It doesn't take long to press or manufacture the CD and artwork, though shipping and distribution can take time.
If I recall, we heard 3 figures for the first shipment: 180K, 200K, and 250K, for an average of 210K. If he has now sold around 220K, he's probably VERY close to having sold out the first shipment, although we have no idea the number of digital versions sold.

SK8888, do you (or anyone else) have the e-mail address for who to contact if a retailer is out of E CD's? Was that listed on i-Squad? I can't seem to find it now. I was in Target this AM, and only 1 E CD was left (and I really had to search for that one!)

Yes, I'll find the contact information for Rocketscience.com
They are in charge of getting E's CD's into the retail channel. But they are only as good as the information they receive, so this will be a great help to them.
Please look for the store # on your receipt for any other goods you may have purchased while there because they will need it. If you can't find it, a quick call to the store and a convo with the store manager will get you that important piece of info.
I'll be back later with the details for Rocketscience.

Thanks, Sk8888. I'm at work now, and now that I think about it, I probably have the rocketscience e-mail address on my home computer. I'll check tonight. I've e-mailed them once before. A couple of the Richmond Targets
that I frequent are consistently low or out of E CD's. If they aren't on the shelves, they can't sell :headsmack:

I apologize if this is posted and i missed it, i am sure it is here somewhere, but does anyone know what the most recent tally of sales are right now? I would lvoe to know. Have not had time to follow it for awhile!

I was at my local Target after work today and as I have made it my habit to do, checked out the cd section. This has become my shopping routine, trying to do my small part to support E!:)

Total CD sales is 217,000. I don't know what percentage is digital but heard 15% is normal. That means they should be close to a second shipment even if the first was 250K especially since the album has returned to the top of the Billboard charts.
The Idol finale helped with sales and E is still in the top 25 on Amazon. Do record companies release detailed info on their shipments? This is all new to me.

i've been wondering about this too, for awhile now. At first I thought is must be according to sales...but that doesn't make sense now. But lower prices DO make a difference in sales. We have a Meijers store in town and a Walmart...Walmart sells out ( 11.99) Meijer sticks to 14.99 and they just sit there!!! So frustrating! Do you think a set price was decided on from the beginning and they "can't " for some reason put it on sale? That 7.99 on Chris's blew my mind! Ya, that means more sales!

It wouldn't surprise me if there isn't a contractual thing going on with the price -- I am sure via a source on intellectual property that the distributor has some parameters the highest and lowest price that an album can be priced at but the outlet can choose the price.
In my experience independent albums always cost more.

Is Target still selling the 2 CD set? If they are, then $14.99 is a bargain. The 2 CD set sold at Target is listed at Amazon as "Limited Collectors Edition" and sells for $24.99.

The second CD contained the two bonus tracks that were originally offered through Target. Although some members have posted that this bonus track offering is not available at all Target's anymore.
If the Amazon "Collector's" CD set is simply the two bonus tracks, then you're right 4th, Target is a great deal.
I recall that Amazon was the distribution "source" for any on-line Target orders that were placed for Elliott's CD, so I could see them re-marketing it as a "Collector's Set" to move the remaining inventory.
