Title: Nyc Bowery Ballroom
Description: A STAR IS BORN...AGAIN!!!

Rick1965 - May 23, 2007 05:15 AM (GMT)
I saw Elliott Saturday night in Sayreville NJ...all I can say was that damn he must have just been warming up!! Don't get me wrong...i thought he was brilliant...but tonight he was beyond any thing i could have imagined!! CAN THIS GUY GET ANY BETTER??? He was just on fire!!! He was so good that by the end of the performance he was starting to lose his voice...and even then he was fantatstic. He did the same set but he was just so spot on. You could see on his face that he was so into the music that he was on a different level than the other night. He seemed more comfortable on the stage he was doing his little funky white boy dance moves and he was just having the time of his life! He messed up the words a few times most noticeably during Wait for You. No big deal though...he will work through the kinks. But the improvement from Saturday was definitely noticeable...and again I want to stress the fact that he was awesome then to...it is just that he keeps getting better!!! If he keeps this up whatever city sees his last show is in for a major treat!!! The highlight of the evening for me was...EACH AND EVERY SONG!! The only way to make me choose would be to hold a gun to my head!!! He looked great as always...he came out and sang with the ORIOLES CAP on. then he took it off. He almost tripped over some equipment on his way out onto the stage and kind of shook his head which was pretty funny. His belt was hanging loose in the front like he forgot to tuck it in or something. It was odd, but maybe it was some sort of stylin thing that I am too old to get!!! He was as gracious and appreciative as always. He mentioned that there were some people from Sony there...if these people do not sign him to a major deal they have no business being in the business!! He mentioned something about Moody's Mood for Love at one point and I thought he was going to do it, but he did TrainWreck instead. I would love to hear him do that song again. Jeez what else...I would describe the performances of each song but what's the point...he was brilliant on each one!! The crowd was about 600 (he even changed the lyric of A Song For You to say I've acted out my life on stages, with 600 people watching which was kind of funny.) Again it was a very mixed crowd, male, female, young, old , gay, straight etc...I am interested to hear what others who saw both shows thought. And to those of you who haven't seen him yet...hold onto to your Orioles Caps!!! :elliottelliott:

Rick1965 - May 23, 2007 05:24 AM (GMT)
almost forgot...I was a standing off to the side so from that angle, I could see the stage door from where they would come on to the stage(there was no crtain hiding it or anything) and at diffrent points during Josh Hoge's set there were Elliott's band members standing in the doorway and every so often I would see the ORIOLES cap lurking in the background behind them...and one time he jumped in front of them and took a picture of Josh...that was pretty funny!! During Elliott's set his brother Scott stood in the doorway for most of the show with some tall pretty blonde woman.

AngELL - May 23, 2007 05:28 AM (GMT)
Rick--thank you beyond words....he is a walking miracle! Wish I could have been there but all the reports, pics, youtubes etc. really do save us! Just loved hearing your perspective--and I can't choose either! Did he do any other songs like YATO ...hope we might see that sometime, it is so romantic...Hope he was not so hot as in the NJ concert! wonder if they will show him on AI tomorrow night...

yellin4yamin - May 23, 2007 05:30 AM (GMT)
did he wear his underdog T-shirt???

;)

MistyluvsE - May 23, 2007 05:32 AM (GMT)
LOL Yellin you are too cute!! :rocker:

Thanks for the review Rick... Did you get the guts to talk to any Etrainers this time?! :elliottcap:

Rick1965 - May 23, 2007 05:34 AM (GMT)
He was definitely sweating up a storm, but I think in Jersey he was sweatier!! He did the same set he did in NJ and I believe the one he did in VA. Saw it posted somewhere else. He opened with Alright and closed with A Song For You...he did not do You Are The One though...

NJ4Elliott - May 23, 2007 05:44 AM (GMT)
Rick, perfect recap. He was BRILLIANT in every single song and he had so much energy. Sony ATV and some people from MTV were there too. There was a great crowd and I GOT TO MEET ELLIOTT! I have pictures of the show and other etrainers which with my son's help hopefully I can post them tomorrow.

Great to meet so many of you guys. :)

One of the best part of this evening for me was that my husband was completely blown away with Elliott, he can't stop talking about how great he was, and he certainly was 1000 times better live than in the cd, if that's even possible. Elliott even apologized to my husband for putting up with my E obsession. LOL

I'm still on cloud nine. :awe:

Rick1965 - May 23, 2007 05:45 AM (GMT)
No Underdog T-shirt... It was a blue t-shirt with something on it that i could not make out what it was exactly...no words on it though. I did talk to some Etrainers but the only one who said anything back to me was Mom in NY(...shout out to you Mom in ny!! Funny thing up until you said it I didn't realize it was MOM IN NY...I thought it was MOMINNY...pronounced like hominy!! :rotfl: ) Two others I asked said no they weren't...even though they had nametags on that indicated otherwise...and two others said yes and walked away...odd but it was after the concert so maybe they were just walking around with their heads in the clouds like I was. All in all it was a much better night overall...did not get to meet Elliott this time...I was going to wait around to see if he came out but I had to get home so maybe the next time...but one day mark my words I will tell that boy how I feel about him!!!

Rick1965 - May 23, 2007 05:48 AM (GMT)
NJFORELLIOTT...that is awesome...did you see him after the show?

awwwwwwwwww that's ok!!! As long as he rocked DA HOUSE, I could care less if he was wearing some orange shorts with a lime green sweater.....

hmmmmmm...well, that would be a sight, wouldn't it??

I wish you had said something to me in Jersey hon, I was there and would have LOVED to have met you!!! So glad you are on cloud 9. I still am from Saturday;)

xxoo :grouphug:

NJ4Elliott - May 23, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
Rick, yes, I met him. We waited around outside after the show and we met the band, Josh and then Elliott came out, he was a sweetheart, I bought a t-shirt and he signed it and of course I took pictures with the band and with him. I asked him if he was going to sing at the finale and he said no, but that he was going to sing at the after party.

Rick1965 - May 23, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
That is sweet...next time I absolutely will say something to you...and the way Elliott is going there will be many more next times!!!

NJ4Elliott - May 23, 2007 05:59 AM (GMT)
Elliott had a dark blue t-shirt on with light blue designs of a skyline and it said Middle East right under it. After the show he changed into a Mickey Mantle white t-shirt.

NJ4Elliott - May 23, 2007 06:03 AM (GMT)
Rick, what were you wearing? I think I met most of the etrainers there. I had jeans and a black jacket and a multicolor blouse underneath.

pamik27 - May 23, 2007 11:20 AM (GMT)
Hi Rick,
Sorry I couldn't figure out who you were at the show...couldn't find the "dork in front," but then again I was standing in the back.
Anyway....I completely agree with you that this show was MUCH more tight than the Saturday one in NJ. Everything seemed better....Elliott's voice, the band, the acoustics, the energy level. It was obvious from the first song, right through A Song for You, which he DESTROYED (In a good way).
All I kept thinking was that if he keeps getting better with each show, the people on the tail end of his tour are very lucky!

ohioguy45780 - May 23, 2007 11:29 AM (GMT)
600 People?? That's awesome! It was filled to capapcity. The Bowery sites say it only holds 575???

NJ4Elliott glad you got to meet Elliott! Sounds like you and your hubby had a good conversation.

Any pictures?

Mickey Mantle, oh that would definitly change my hubbies feelings about E (he's jealous lol). I mean my hubby idolizes MM.

Great recap, thanks Rick. I can't believe etrainers weren't more sociable. Not like the ones I've met.

good...so he's doing at least half a house, which is the minimal requirement.
strange that two different people can have different perspectives on audience size.

mominny - May 23, 2007 12:37 PM (GMT)
I would say it was close to full capacity. I was toward the front and saw the place almost filled when I turned around to look. When we first walked in there was about 300--but it filled up pretty fast

bear88 - May 23, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
A few more observations about last night at the Bowery Ballroom--
came in from Woodstock, so had a two hour drive home, and maybe four hours sleep. It was wonderful meeting a bunch of you last night.
I would say 400 to 500 people, but the space is great so you didn't feel packed in at all.
Elliott is now VERY professional. His voice is TRULY GOLDEN. Don't miss the opportunity to hear him live. If I had to pick one song, it would be Little Ghetto Boy, but the crowd really grooved on Movin' On, well really they loved it all.
He danced around quite a bit, and made a comment like, "Well, if I'm going to move around like this, I better start working out"
My niece, who is in her 30s and into the music scene, pointed out the guys she clearly felt were there from the record companies. They were youngish, dressed in all black, "metrosexual", and mostly in the balcony area, but also scattered at the back of the room.
The crowd could not have been more receptive. Cheered, screamed, whistled, etc. like there was no tomorrow. I now have one thing in common with E--thanks to the woman next to me, I'm now 90% deaf in my right ear.
The evening was bittersweet for me. Sort of like when a mother watches her son go off to college or get married. You've watched them grow, know it's for the best, but feel a little sad that they no longer belong just to you.
Elliott is a STAR now, there's no doubt about it. This BOWERY is a hip club in NYC, and he blew the roof off. He belongs to the world. I'm glad I was there to see it from the beginning, but shedding a few tears of joy to see him "Movin' On,"

I'm not great at estimating crowds. Maybe there was more than 300 people. Let's put it this way: the place was definitely not full to capacity, but it was definitely crowded enough to be more than respectable....and it was rockin!

JeannineS - May 23, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
Great Show last night!! It was 10,000x's better than NJ. What a different performence, he was so into it! I loved it. The crowd was great!! And now I totally have a crush on Oliver lolol.

It was great to meet all of you!!!

Can somebody help me? How do I post my pics on here? I know I did it a while ago, but can't seem to remember! Please help me or you will all never see my pics muahaha. Please!!

I am a bad judge of numbers...but when Elliott said "600 people watching" I just made the leap...It was definitely a nice size crowd and nothing to be ashamed of.

chloewannabee - May 23, 2007 01:39 PM (GMT)
Rick,
Where were you?? I was up in the balcony for the show, and omigod did it sound gooooooood up there. Saturday, I was up in the front row, and decided to watch from a distance this time. Actually, it wasnt that far and the sound upstairs was not to be believed!!!
I was giving out nametags to whoever wanted them, and a lot of non etrainers took them, so maybe it was some of them who you ran into. I know that all the etrainers I met were friendly, and excited to be there!
The show was totally awesome! It was different from the jersey show, not necessarily better, just different. It was a mixed crowd, a lot more 20-30 somethings, which was great to see. Still trying to gather my thoughts to post, right now I'm running on about 4 hours sleep, and I'm at work!
I'll be back later

goelliott - May 23, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
Thanks Rick and everyone else for the great recaps..are there perchance any videos of his concert? :looks around greedily: :P The vids that were posted for his NJ concert were flippin' awesome so if he was better he must have been out of this world.

I wonder what MTV people were doing there..thats interesting.

Yeah I think the Bowery Ballroom holds 600 people and that's why it was in Elliott's head and he said that-there were probably around 300-350 there.

Hey...facing the stage I was off to the left side about half way back from the stage. I wanted to go up to the balcony but I saw reserved signs on the tables so I didn't think I could. The name tag thing makes sense now...the people I asked seemed to not understand what I was asking...phew...I got scared for a minute!! I had about 3 hours of sleep so I know how you feel! Try and have a good day...Being an Elliott Fan can be exhausting...but in a good way!!! :elliottcap:

yellin4yamin - May 23, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! I am so glad all of you had such an AMAZING time, and I never doubted it for a second!! I can't even IMAGINE him being any better than Saturday night, but then again, this is Elliott we are talking about, and he always seems to "step it up" just a little more each time...how, I have no idea, but HE IS, where he is meant to be, and the stage is his new "home." As someone who has followed him religiously since the second the first note came out of his mouth on his AI audition, he has GROWN leaps and bounds, yet still stayed TRUE to who he is. How can ANYONE ask for anything more. There is no one I would ever be prouder to say I was a fan of.....and I have been faithful to so many bands/musicians over the years. Elliott, tops them all;) Love all the wonderful recaps!! And love ALL my fellow ETRAINERS!!

xxoo

I was all the way back by the bar, which was the only area that had free space. That was only a quarter of the club. The other 3/4's were standing shoulder to shoulder and the side aisles were filled. Also the balcony was packed. So it had to be more than 300.

callalou - May 23, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
Well, this was my first small venue show of Elliott's and I can't even begin to explain how unbelievable this guy is. I was right up in the second row center, meet lots of etrainers and other very friendly people and would have listened to him all night long. I can't compare, because I have only seen him on the idol tour, but this guy is a legend in the making, a true artist who is going to be around for a long, long time. The place was packed and definitely filled up when he came on. It holds about 575 ( I saw the sign), and I would say there was probably about 400+ people. Downstairs was completely filled from what I could see behind me. He ROCKED on every single song. Never missed a note with such passion and soul. I only noticed him miss the words on one word and never on any other. The crowd was ROCKIN, especially on Movin On.

He was so grateful to all of his fans and thanked Sony and whoever else was there several times. I would see him again and again and again especially in such an intimate setting. and I finally got to meet him afterwards. He just walked right into the bar and said hello to everyone. I gave him a big hug and told him how great he was. Took a picture and he just talks right to you and looks right into your eyes. The guy is the most layed back, gracious person I have ever meet. I asked him to sign my daughers shirt and he said sure and I said to him good luck and he once again looked right at me and said thank you very much and smiled.

I have to say I am sooooo proud to be an E-trainer and to have followed this guy from day one. He is going to be around for a very, very long time and will only get better and better.

Didn't care for Josh Hoge very much. He started out okay, but then I lost interest. When they sang together, it was so apparent how much more powerful Elliott's voice is.

Nice to meet lots of people last night and hope to see you at another venue

hoome3 - May 23, 2007 03:00 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the recaps! I love hearing all of the great news! I agree that hearing E on this tour is something not to be missed if at all possible. What a tremendous show(I saw him in Richmond last Fri.), and the ticket prices are so reasonable - I cringe to remember what I paid on E-bay to get AI tickets last summer - altho it was worth it!

I would LOVE to see E in one of these smaller venues - I have only seen him in the huge crowds (AI concert, VA State Fair, Innsbrook), so no chance to get close and speak. I may just have to arrange a long road trip :elliottcap:

I do have tickets for Norfolk in Aug. I think the NorVa holds about 1,500 - still probably not small enough to get close and speak!

Enjoy hearing all of the stories of the tour... keep them coming!

(And next time I'm at a concert, I'm going to get bolder and seek out more E-trainers - my "easily embarassed" teenage daughter is always with me at the E concerts, which is great - but it restrains me somewhat from making a complete "fan-girl" scene!)

It looked to me between 400 and 500 people. Before the show started it was like maybe 300, but once the show started the place got a lot fuller.

I'll post pictures later, just waiting for my son so he could help me with it. I have one picture that my husband took from the balcony looking down towards the stage but it was earlier before the show started, you can still see a pretty decent crowd starting to form. I can tell you that the people were very enthusiastic, I think we were all screaming our heads off for Elliott. It was unbelievable!

Rick, I'm sorry I missed you, I was introducing myself to everyone I saw with a name tag. I hope I didn't sound like a nutcase, I was so excited. :)

Thanks for the reports. I hate to be a worrier, but when you say he was starting to lose his voice at the end of the show . . . well, I worry! No good can come of it. Hopefully he will learn to protect his voice. I want him singing for years and years to come.

He just sounded a little horse when he was speaking at the end, he mentioned that this was the first time he had ever lost his voice, but was glad that he could lose it in NYC...When he sang A Song For You it wasn't noticeable.

Got there super early, cause we thought the show was at 8 (Elliott didn't come on till 10, we think he wanted to watch the American Idol finale LIVE) -- so we walked around the lower east side's famous Rivington Street, and found Sugar Sweet Sunshine, one of the most amazing cupcake bakeries -- if you're around there, ya gotta try it! Will send your blood glucose through the stratosphere, but it's worth the trip...

But I digress -- since my friend Robin and I were so early, we had great floor position...center, but not under the speakers. Elliott sounds so true in a small venue, it's nothing like the tin can reverb echo in the Continental Arena.

When I saw the Orioles hat, :elliottcap: I was thinking, oh, no, show us that HAIR!!! Well, the hat was off by the second song, I think. My friend Robin was laughing, because she has hair just like that, and works so hard to TAME it with the blow dryer!!! (Can you imagine E with sleek, blow-dried long hair?)

I was so happy there was enough room to dance (in place) without really crashing into anyone...didn't bring my camera, oh well. I would have loved to capture his sweatiness for posterity. Speaking of which...

Does anyone know who caught his sweaty towel?? New Yorkers, we've decided his new name should be Governor Elliott Shvitzer

Sorry Elliott, that we didn't Wait For You after the show...if I had known he was going to hang out at the bar....oh well. Nice to hear that he was into his fans. When I met him at Melito's after his Richmond show, he seemed a little tired and remote. Definitely a different scene. Happy that LiMBO was there!

Speaking of Richmond, a shout out to Ms. LINDA! It was great to see you there last night! Enjoy your stay in NYC. We never found Chloe...and did anyone see Rickey Yaneza? I was hoping he would rush in late, post-Idol!

Here's to more small venues! Great sound, great view.
