Title: Trocaderos Concert

mel0207 - June 5, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
I wrote this early this morning, but wasn’t able to post it before I went to work. I know others have posted about this concert, but I guess I will go ahead and put my 2 cents in (okay, so it’s 50 cents or more…)

Elliott at the Trocaderos in Minneapolis

This was the first concert I had been to in a very long time…and it was amazing. A line was already started when I first drove by at about 5:35. I parked and took a place in line. Elliott’s bus was in the parking lot to the right of the building. At one point, while standing there I looked over toward the bus and saw Elliott through the glass. His curls were unmistakable. I waved. Elliott waved back and blew a kiss. :)

At one point it started to rain. Thankfully the ladies in front of me let me share their umbrellas! At about 7:00 we were allowed to enter the building. I headed toward the stage so I could be in front. I’m short and really wanted to be able to see. I knew that if I didn’t make it up there, I’d probably not be able to see at all.

At about 8:00 Josh opened for Elliott. He’s very good and has fun with the audience. And then it was time for Elliott to sing. The crowd got so excited when he came out on stage. There were a lot of “I love you Elliott’s” and a lot of screaming. Myself included! It was very exciting to see him… I just couldn’t help myself. It was just so much fun. There were security guards right in front of the crowd to keep the crowd back at least 3 feet from the stage. Everyone was very respectful of the band’s request for people to stay back. We were a little too close during Josh’s set. Elliott opened with All Right. Then he sang Find A Way, You Take My Breath Away, In Love With You Forever, One Word, Little Ghetto Boy, Movin’ On, Train Wreck, and Wait For You. They were all beautiful.

Before every song he talked a little bit about the song, mentioning who had written it, etc. After every song (sometimes even during) the crowd would scream and clap. He would just smile. It just made you so happy to see him. There’s just such a light about him. His kind, loving heart shines through. I think that’s part of what makes his voice so beautiful.

He had a lot of energy and would dance and sway while singing. I enjoyed all of the songs, especially Train Wreck. There was so much energy everywhere! During this song he introduced his band members. All too soon, it was over. He said goodbye, waved, and walked off the stage. Everyone began cheering and clapping and wouldn't stop. Everyone grew louder and louder, and then began to chant “Elliott”, “Elliott”... After a few minutes, to our delight he came back on stage. He introduced his keyboardist and announced he was going to sing “A Song For You”. Yay! This was perfect, and it was so nice to hear Elliott’s rich voice without the band. (As much as I liked the band, I just wanted to hear that voice.) He dedicated the song to his fans in Minneapolis. Then it was really over. The ladies I had met said that it was just a perfect concert. I have to agree.

Afterward I decided to wait in line for an autograph. I did feel concerned for Elliott as the line of people waiting to see him was pretty long. I was apprehensive about making the line longer. If they had cut the time off before I got up there, it would have been okay, I would have understood. I know he must have been exhausted. He must have signed autographs and took pictures for over an hour. It was so nice of him to do this. After awhile, I did make it up to see him. And boom, all of a sudden I was nervous! And wouldn’t you know it right when they went to take a picture of Elliott and me, the flash on my camera wouldn’t work. Argh…(I had just bought the camera and still didn’t know what in the blazes I was doing!) But he was so gracious and kind. I thanked him and said God bless you. (Maybe that’s a little goofy, but I was nervous.) I just wanted him to know that he is loved and appreciated. There wasn’t time to tell him that I appreciate his integrity and faith. That I admire what he is doing with his music (he has introduced me to a great many songs I probably would have never known otherwise – thank you Elliott!) and that I appreciate what he is doing to educate and inspire others who have diabetes. I have come in contact with this disease intimately as I have a brother who was diagnosed with it when we were growing up. As an adult, he has been ill for quite awhile because his diabetes is not being managed well. It hurts to see this happening.

Well, it was wonderful to see Elliott. He is so kind and generous. After rooting for this man every night on idol last year, it was such a joy to see him, hear him sing, and watch him perform. I know he is doing something he loves, and I’m glad for him. Your heart just pulls for him and wants him to be happy, be healthy, and be content. I pray all these things for him. Do take care of yourself Elliott and take time to rest. Thank you for sharing your talent and a little bit of yourself with us. :elliottcap:

What an endearing recap Mel! Congratulations on getting to see Elliott perform! I think telling him 'God Bless' was the best thing you could say to him. What a sweet recap! You know - he knows without saying I think. When I met him he just said "I feel the love" several times - I'm sure he could tell how much he meant to you. I'm glad it was a great concert :elliottcap:

"everyone began cheering and clapping and wouldn't stop"; they screamed his name....

THIS is the "polite applause" the Minneapolis reporter was talking about?

AngELL, I agree. His sweet soul just seems to overtake everything he does. Reading about him smiling back and blowing a kiss from the bus just made me tear up. How many 28-year-old men would DO that? He is almost other-worldly in his kindness and thoughtfulness. I am so proud to be a fan of his. :elliottcap:

OG Polite applause? I'll have to go looking for that one. My ears buzzed for days from that polite applause.

Oh yeah OG, most journalists are KNOWN for their fair, unbiased & truthful reporting! I trust the recap of a concert goer over that of a reporter ANY day!
