Title: San Francisco Loves Elliott
Description: Slim's Is Packed & Rockin'
Sk8888 - June 13, 2007 07:33 AM (GMT)
Hi Everyone!!
I just got back from Elliott's concert at Slim's in SF tonight. The city by the Bay turned out and filled up the joint....around 500 people, with so many Etrain members and E-fans including Emjay, MCornelio, PDXJon, Banner Girl, Gogo, Nanab, JudyP, Courtie, Aunt Glenny, ElliottBabe, Ging and Wee Moogie to name a few.
We had a blast pure and simple.
Before the concert started there were a bunch of us at the front of the line and Monet was so nice, she put together a brief Meet 'N' Greet before Elliott headed to the Obama fundraiser. (The Slim's folks were very leary about this, so major props to Monet for making it happen.) There were several folks who were meeting Elliott for the first time, and I will let them tell their stories. I can only say how happy I was to see how at ease Elliott was in talking with everyone, joking around, having a laugh, and patiently waiting as pictures were taken for posterity's sake. His people wanted to do a sound check, and Elliott continued to visit with his fans.
We lingered awhile to listen to Elliott do his sound check before we had to go back in line. By the way, my friends who are not huge E-fans said that the sound at Slim's was very good and that the band was tight. They don't give out compliments like that easily, so I wanted to be sure to mention it.
Now, back out in line, we're all getting our tickets out and our I.D.'s ....like they want to make sure that we're over 21. Thank you for making my day on that one!! We get our hands stamped and the guy at the door says to go on in. You didn't have to tell us twice, we were inside and by the stage. A quick trip to the bar for something to drink and that was it, we didn't move the rest of the evening until Elliott's last song was over.
I now have to tell everyone reading this, that even though I had a great position to take pictures during the concert, I took very few. I wanted to be in the moment and let everything just sink in. I was seeing Elliott live on his solo tour, I was with other people who thoroughly love Elliott's energy and passion as he sings and it was just very special to be with all of that positive energy, knowing you are seeing Elliott at the beginning of his journey.
Other details: Elliott was wearing his SuperJew teeshirt tonight. He came out wearing a SF Giant baseball cap, but soon removed it to let the curls loose. Elliott's hot sweaty curls is sexy as all get out, and anyone who disagrees just doesn't have a pulse in my opinion. There were several times when Elliott put his head down and then swung it back to send beads of sweat flying from the tip of those curls in several directions.
I loved all of Elliott's songs, but something just got me tonight with Find A Way. I bet he sings it on the USO Tour. It's really a song of hope and a plea for peace. He was just so into the song and connecting with the audience. I think that I took a video clip of Movin' On, so I can hardly remember it. Wait For You was better than the single that's out there, and finally ASFY. Wow! I was really touched and that surprised me because I've heard it many times, but being right there, Elliott just puts it all out there, and you can't help but be moved.
The concert was over too soon. And I said goodbye to many new friends that I hope I'll be seeing at Elliott concerts for years to come.
I know I'm leaving a lot out, but there were a lot of folks there who I know are coming to post recaps too.
By now, Elliott's tour bus has pulled out of SF and is high tailing it to LA. But we loved the short time we had and wouldn't trade it for anything.
Sk8888
p.s. A big thank you to Elliottbabe and her family for allowing me to ride into the city with them when my friends realized they couldn't leave as early as I wanted to. It was so fun chatting in the car on the way over. It was like we've known each other for years.

Nice recap!!! I loved reading it and am glad you had a great time! As usual, Elliott is the man!

Great recap SK...loved your comment about the pulse!
I just knew he'd wear one of his Jewish shirts tonight, because of Courtie. I'm so happy about that meet-and-greet because it didn't sound hopeful for SF because of all the stuff going on there. I can't wait for Courtie to get back here so I can interrogate her!
Hope (well, I know) you're having a GREAT time, Courtie!
Anybody have any news about the Obama thing?
TxRangerette - June 13, 2007 08:00 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Shelley, for staying up and posting this recap!! I enjoyed talking with you on your cellphone right after the concert!! I had to hear the "in the moment" details of the concert...lol, you can tell I was anxious to hear it all right there and then! I'm happy that Brandon got the Etrainers meet and greet passes..although, short and sweet!! I did hear about how E was going to be with Obama and cutting short the time with his meet and greet...but, glad it worked out!

I love the way you put this into words, very vivid!
Sk8888 - June 13, 2007 08:19 AM (GMT)
Wow, I'm remembering other things, that I'll post as I remember them.
Someone managed to get info to Elliott that someone in the audience was celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary. Elliott called out their names, asked where they were, and they yelled out, and Elliott wished them a Happy Anniversary. Then he sang I'm the Man for them.
Elliott also came out to the "merch" table after the concert and was signing more autographs. I got yelled at by some Slim's employee because I was standing on the steps when I took a really cute photo of him, which I'll post.
There were a couple of Slim's employees -- not the bouncers -- who were clearly overwrought with the size of our crowd and then all of the activity afterwards. They wanted to shew (sp?) us out of there, and no one was leaving. We were all still milling around talking to each other.
At the other end of the spectrum were the Slim's bouncers, who my buds heard talking. They were clearly prepared to use their muscle to keep the crowd in order, but their assessment was that we were a mellow crowd and that their jobs would be easy tonight.
I don't know if we were mellow, because the noise was deafening at times, in a good way. But we sure enjoyed the atmosphere and the moment.
Sk8888
p.s. I saw Jeff Rabahan, and took a quick picture.
p.p.s. Elliott also thanked all of the radio people in attendance.

Great recap and pics and can't wait for more. SK, I understand about not taking the pics, I couldn't have taken any at the Birchmere if I tried. I just wanted to absorb every moment, so I definately relate. Loved the comment about the "pulse" as well. JudyP, loved the pics. Courtie, so happy for you sweetie.
So happy everyone had a good time, like they wouldn't. I'm so jealous, LOL. Man if I were rich, I'd taken off and gone to every concert and met every E-Trainer there. :rocker:

wow...great crowd for a city refusing to play Elliott's music!
Sounds like an excellent venue for a more up-close concert
(unlike an all-you-can-eat ribfest.....ARGHHHH!!!). ;-)

Great recap and pics. I loved what you said about how the Slim's peeps didn't know what to do with everyone not wanting to leave. Sounds like he took a lot of time both before and after the show. What a sweetie! :awe:

Hi All...Just getting home from spending the night with ElliottBabe.
I met and HUGGED ELLIOTT !!!
I will write up my entire recap but want to say now the
SF LOVED Elliott !!
The crowd was packed and loud ! My ears are still ringing.
ELLIOTT IS A BEAUTIFUL STAR AND HAS THE MOST PERFECT SINGING VOICE I HAVE EVER HEARD.
So Happy to meet all of you and share this wonderful experience with you !!
I am still on Cloud 1000000000 !!
elliottbabe - June 13, 2007 05:21 PM (GMT)
i love san francisco.....but never so much as i loved it last nite. for the city that refuses to play his music, his fans here sure showed elliott what love is. i mean, slims ROCKED. i was upstairs on the balcony, and had a birds eye view of the entire place. and let me tell you.....the place was shaking. when elliott was singing, EVERYONE, and i mean everyone, was moving. the crowd was very eclectic....young, old, tall, short, every ethnicity, gay and straight. and they moved.... and they screamed....and they hollered!!!! and they would not stop yelling (after he had left the stage) until he and the band returned. and, by the way, the band was fantastic. they have, very obviously, formed a very cohesive unit. they appear to love each other....and, above all, elliott. but then again, how can you not love elliott. my feet are still not touching the ground, and my heart is still jumping. there is so much excitement about elliott. his enthusiasm is contagious....he lights up a room. you can feel his genuineness.
(please forgive any spelling errors, cause i'm so excited) this was my first concert, but it will definitely not be my last.......
ging stayed the nite at my home, and when we got back after the concert, we (ging, my daughter, her husband and i) celebrated with a glass of champagne, to end, what was a perfect evening!!!!
there is soooooo much more to say (including how sweet josh is), but i do have another life, which i must attend to now.
sherwood - June 13, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
Wow, that sounds fantastic, Elliottbabe! Hurry back!
Courtie, say something! I can't wait to hear from you, because you've been to so many concerts! (Well, you're ptobably still dumbfounded, wondering how to put your feelings into words.)
wee_moggie - June 13, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
Now that I'm awake and my ears have stopped ringing, here's my recap!
My husband and I got there at about 6pm, and thankfully at that time, the will call line was not too bad, so we got our tickets, and then proceeded to the end of the "real" line, and I heard, "Karen!" and it was Sk8888! We had been talking on the phone for the last couple of days and we wanted to make sure we met up. Sk8888 was in the front of the line, so when she got a chance, she got out of line (place saved, of course) and walked back to where my husband and I were. We were to be part of the little Meet N' Greet that Monet had put together. At that time Elliott hadn't even left for the Obama fundraiser, and due to time, they were going to do the Meet N' Greet before he left, meaning in the next five minutes! So Sk888 took me out of line and took me to the front with her and the other Etrainers. There I met Ging, who I spent the concert with. I have to say that my husband was great about the fact that he was being left on his own at that point, but he knew how much I wanted to meet Elliott! At the front, I briefly met EmJay, PDXJon, and Nanab. I would have loved to talk to you guys more, maybe next time!
Due to time, it was going to be fast Meet N' Greet. We met him right in front of the stage, and the band was already doing their sound checks. However, Elliott looked like he had not a care in the world and had hours and hours to talk to us (would that were true!). He had the SuperJew shirt on and a Giants hat, and I was really hoping that he would wear the hat on stage. As were in a rough line waiting to meet him, Monet kept telling us that the time was getting shorter and shorter, and that we had to meet him QUICK. I don't blame her; things were running late. She was really nice, and I thanked her afterwards for making this possible. The band started playing, "I'm the Man," and Elliott said, "Oh, I should get on stage and start singing!" and my heart sank, because I was the next person to meet him! However, he stayed, met me and a few others after me. What everyone says is true--he puts so much into his fans.
I knew he was short, but it struck me in a humorous way how TINY he is! I don't know why, but it made me laugh (not out loud). When it was my turn, I leaned in and told him my name. I had to lean in, because the band was doing their sound check and it was really loud in there (not that I minded leaning in). Then the funniest thing happened: He said hello and went to shake my hand, sticking out his left hand, and at the same time, I stuck out my right hand, and it just didn't work! So we both automatically stuck out our other hands, and that just didn't work also! (I'm thinking, "Oh my gosh, I'm so lame.") Then he just gave up and hugged me, which was infinitely better than a handshake anyway! It was a very cute moment. We were both laughing as we hugged. He is so slight; I could have picked him up! I asked him to sign my CD, which he did. As he was signing, I told him how awesome it was that he was wearing a Giants hat, to which he replied, "I was at the game last night," to which I replied, "I know!" Afterwards, you think about all the cool, suave things you could have said, but it just doesn't work out that way! There were other things I wanted to say, but I knew how precious little time there was for everyone, and I didn't want to take up too much and have someone else lose out. Then Sk8888 took a picture of us, which came out great!
I must mention that Sk8888 could see that there was very little time in this Meet N' Greet, so she graciously chose not to meet him and instead took pictures of all of us with him. She wanted those of us who had not met him before to have a chance. That was such a nice thing of her to do!
Then I went back outside and got in line with my husband, who, by the way, had been holding the Etrain flyers all this time! Sk8888 walked me back and she retrieved the flyers from him, and we found out that someone else had been passing out Kelly Clarkson flyers! Then Sk8888 went back to her place in line, then it was not long before we were let in. I am so glad we got there when we did, because the line behind us was very long! So we got in, and we looked for Sk8888 and Ging, and we found them right at the front of the stage, and they had saved a place for me! That was so nice of them. So the three of us spent the concert right at the front, with Elliott only about five feet away from us. The three of us had quite a good time together! Now my husband is 6' 5", so he didn't want to be at the front and block people's views, so he hung back a bit and was in charge of taking pictures and videos. My husband was so great to be okay with being separate from me for the whole concert so I could be at the front, but that's the kind of guy he is! He's very friendly, so he actually made friends with a couple standing next to him.
Josh came on, and I must say I like the young man. He was very funny, and he talked a lot. I think he could do stand-up! He was talking about music from the late 80's and early 90's, and people in the crowd were yelling out names of artists, and he would sing some of them! He would speak between every song about something, a lot about Elliott. He said that he read a thread the other night about him having a man-crush on Elliott (is that on the Etrain? I forgot to check), and he said, yes, it is true. He then said he was going to sing a song he wrote about a man watching a girl dance in her house, not knowing that the man was watching, and he dedicated it to Elliott, dancing in his underwear. Then, when he was finished with his songs, he said that he would be over at the merchandise table, and he joked that he would set up a kissing booth, to which a man in the audience yelled out a big, "YEAH!" The entire audience laughed at that, including Josh. A lot of people ended up yelling out things to him, and he fielded them all without missing a beat.
Then Elliott's band came out and started with "Alright." Then Elliott bounded out onto the stage like a superball and just danced for a while. It was so awesome to see him just a few feet away. He looked completely rested and energetic, even though he had just been doing another performance not an hour before. Oh, and he was still wearing the Giants hat! He took it off after a few songs; it would probably have slid off on its own anyway, with all the sweat that was coming off him! Sk8888 is right; during the performance, every time he tossed his heat, all this sweat would just go flying through the air! The first time he tossed his curls, Sk8888 turns to me and says, "Oh, he can do THAT again!" It was very sexy, despite the sweat. By the end of his show, his entire shirt front, head, and even his forearms were soaking! He hardly stayed still. He spoke a lot between songs, which was nice. As Sk8888 mentioned, he wished a couple happy 35th anniversary and performed "I'm The Man." He did all the songs everyone has already listed that he does in his concerts. I have heard so many people say that hearing him sing in person is so much better, and they are right! (Not that hearing him on the CD is bad; you know what I mean.) It is truly amazing. It's like he's been performing for years. No missed words, and NO off notes--absolute perfection. I couldn't detect one flaw. Before he sang, "One Word," he spoke to us a little, and said, "You know when you love a guy or girl, and you just want to have one word to describe them, what word would that be?" Then he turned the mic to us, and I think all 500 people screamed, "AMAZING!" He just OWNS the songs, and he made them all different from what is on the CD. Plus, as he sings, he is constantly moving and dancing, coordinating his movements to the words. A few times he did some....um....sensual moves, which made Ging just swoon! We all did.
I must say I love his band! They just all look like nice guys, and they just jammed--they were so tight. I love how they "funkified" some of the songs, especially "Find A Way." It was so different than on the CD. In fact, I was watching one of the keyboard players, the one who also shakes the tambourine, and he was just singing along with the songs with this happy smile on his face! "I'm in love with you forever, I'm in love with you forever....."
When Elliott left the stage, and before he came out again, the crowd was screaming, "ELLIOTT! ELLIOTT! ELLIOTT!" and did not stop until he came back on. It was incredibly deafening, but I was screaming along with everyone else!
Then Elliott finished with "A Song For You," and it was just truly fantastic. He spoke for a little before it, starting out saying, "So I was on this TV show last year...." He then mentioned that he sang the song for his first three auditions, then sang it in Hollywood, then sang it on the show, and now he gets to sing it with his band. He seemed so proud to say that last part.
Elliott mentioned several times during the concert that this was the loudest crowd that they ever had, and it was true! The cheering and screaming were deafening, fortunately not when he was singing; people were well-behaved about that. It is true, though; I have been to five concerts at Slim's now, and nothing was as loud as this! He also mentioned that we were the best crowd of the tour. The place was PACKED! SF may not be on the bandwagon with playing him yet (although he did thank the radio stations at the end), but we SF Elliott fans showed up and REPRESENTED!
I'm sure I'm forgetting some things; I'll add them when I remember.
My husband got a lot of great photos and videos, but I have no idea how to put them here!
I hope this gives you a good idea of what went down last night! I am so happy to have met Elliott and to have heard him sing, especially right in front of me, and I am so grateful to Sk8888 for making this happen, and to Ging for being such a nice and wonderful person to share the show with. There is a great picture of the three of us, I hope it makes it to this thread!

good morning!! I'm loading my photos of Elliott into photobucket now. ok, it's official - I now have more photos of Elliott than I do of my kids. I know it looks like all I did was take pictures, but I actually spent my time watching the show. I just pointed my camera and hoped for the best.
It was so much fun meeting everyone last night - the etrain was well represented. The best part for me was watching Courtie in the meet and greet, during the show and after the concert. I think there were times she thought "what the hell am I doing making this trip???", but last night I can guarantee you she wasn't thinking that - she was thrilled and will never regret doing this. and she still has the LA show to attend!! and a big kiss and hug to Brandon for helping make this trip so special for her. mmmwhaaaaaaaaa!!
Nancy, I didn't see your friend. Slim's was very crazy. The place really was STANDING ROOM ONLY. Once they opened the doors and you got your place at the stage, it was hard to move or see anything because it was so packed. auntglenny was sitting off to the side of the stage in a special spot for wheelchairs, but I don't think there was anyone else with her. Your friend also might have been in the balcony.
a few things to add - Elliott, of course, looked and sounded great - seemed to be in a really happy, energetic, upbeat mood. I don't think I've ever seen anyone sing with as much joy as he does. He looks great - this life is certainly agreeing with him - his skin look beautiful last night. As always, he put 1000% of himself into every note he sang last night. The band is really getting tight - we talked to Olliver for a bit after the show and told him that - they seem to all really appreciate the compliments and feedback and almost seem surprised that everyone is loving them so much. I think Slim's was another venue that underestimated Elliott's popularity - the Gothic in Denver did also. I think they think........"oh, just another AI reject" and are never quite prepared for the crowd. I watched some of the CD signing and Elliott was having a ball - he was kind and gracious and acted like each person he was talking to was the only person in the room at that time - he really is a charmer. I was outside watching everyone come out hollering and screaming after getting their moment with Elliot and it was so much fun to see all the reactions.
ok- here is the link to the PS pictures and a couple of my favorities.
http://s154.photobucket.com/albums/s249/ju...o/SanFrancisco/I just read everyone's recaps and they are all perfect. I think we might be able to capture this SF experience between all of us!!

San Francisco Loves Elliott Yamin !! ELLIOTT YAMIN Rocked San Francisco !!
SK8888, ElliottBabe and I got there early and was like the second group in line. Elliott's bus was parked on the street right in front of us. The band members kept coming and going from the bus. I met tons of E-Trainers. We could hear Elliott inside singing ! Monet
came to SK8888 and said that a small group could go in for a pre concert meet and greet. We walked in not sure what to do...Elliott and the band were all on the stage performing. As we approached, Elliott jumped down from the stage to meet us. Bev went first, and I was second.
I stepped up to Elliott we hugged and I said Hi Elliott, I'm Ging. He said Hi Ging. I gave Elliott the little Porche and told him that it was from the E-Maniacs..the band was still playing and it was so loud that we had to put our heads together and talk in each others ears ! lol...we were close. Elliott said , Oh Wow a Porche...I said I hope you don't have one. He said No ! I don't, it's my first Porche...giggle..giggle. I said, Have you heard of the E-Maniacs? He said...Yes I have heard of them...I said we are a group of almost 70 fans and we do whatever we can to support you, we vote, we request. He said, Tell them Thank you for all they do ! He signed my CD cover. We had our pic taken together, Cheek to Cheek. We hugged again and I said in his Ear. Stay Sweet. Elliott Said in My Ear...I will, I am always Sweet....and that was our meeting....All very rushed....Monet was standing there trying to hurry everyone along and I did not want to hog him.
I was able to get my place back in line when I went back out, so when they let us in....I got just to Elliott's Left right up leaning on the stage. SK8888 and wee moogi shared the evening with me. It was packed and those behind up kept getting closer, but it was nice to have the stage in front of us to lean on and put our purses.
Now the concert. Josh was first and he was OK....Funny Stories...and he said he had a man crush on Elliott...every time he mentioned Elliott's name the crowd roared ! Some guy behind me kept yelling We Love you Josh !
Then there was a long wait and THE STAR TOOK THE STAGE....LOUD LOUD ROAR !!
Everything about Elliott was great...I have got to say Elliott's singing is even more perfect Live !! He did not miss a note or a word. He swayed He Moved, Elliott put his entire self into each and every song. Ladies, Elliott has some moves that made me week in the knees and absolutely made me swoon.
The Band ROCKED !! They Really put on a show !! Every time the crowd would roar on and on, they would all smile. They were all really happy about the response they got from the SF Crowd. Elliott said several times that it was the loudest crowd ever. At the end, Elliott did his little cross his arms over his heart and bow, bow, bow. You could tell that he was truly touched !!
Elliott said that after the concert, he was going to be at the sales booth to meet and sign. Since we had already met Elliott, we did not stay. The line was HUGE.
The thing that stuck me most about Elliott is his beauty. Beautiful Smile, Skin, Hair and Eyes. He appeared not the least bit stressed by all the Fans, but rather just HAPPY !!
All of the Elliott Fans whom I met were Loving, giving gracious people, Just Like Elliott. I very much enjoyed meeting and sharing this wonderful experience with SK8888, wee moogie and ElliottBabe. As ElliottBabe wrote, we stayed up into morning talking, looking and listening Elliott. Then we were up bright and early going on and on some more.
I have not one complaint about anything....It was the Perfect Night.
A very special Thank You to the beautiful, fun gracious SK8888 for bringing us all together and making all of this happen !!

Wow, Slim's was a very special venue for you all and Elliott. I couldn't be happier, well unless I had been there too, and believe me I wish that I was. I saw Elliott in Portland and found myself reliving it again through all of your recaps, thanks ladies. :grouphug:

Wow, that sounds fantastic, Elliottbabe! Hurry back!
Courtie, say something! I can't wait to hear from you, because you've been to so many concerts! (Well, you're ptobably still dumbfounded, wondering how to put your feelings into words.) |
Har-har-har-har. Missing Courtie too. She must still be in catatonic bliss, as IN STUNNED SPEECHLESS!
