Just curious if anyone here is familiar with the late, great Eva Cassidy.

I don't think I have heard her songs but I've heard great things about her. I would be interested in listening to some samples. Do you have any recommendations I can start out with?

Yes. You can go to youtube.com and do a search for Eva Cassidy. There you can find a few of her performances - definitely listen to Time After Time!

Actually, try to listen to them all; she's a brilliant artist.

Oops, sorry I missed the other discussions. I am really blown away by her talent. What an emorous loss her friends/family/fans suffered with her passing. I cannot believe how one day someone can be here, gracing this earth, and then within such a short time be gone. Truly very sad, but her memory is still here with her amazing music. She did some great artwork as well.

A few folks had started threads "over there" and it turns out she has a following here on the E-Train! When I first started listening to her, I used to cry, cry, cry because she was here and gone so quickly. I just recently saw the website for her artwork. It's at www.evacassidy.com, right? What a talented woman!

I have 2 of Eva Cassidy's cds: Songbird and Live at Blues Alley.

My favorite song is her version of "Fields of Gold." That song is what introduced me to her music. I first heard it during Michelle Kwan's performance at the Champions Gala 4 years ago after the Olympic competition. The song, combined with Michelle's skating, was so moving, that I just had to find out who sang it. I much prefer her version of "Over the Rainbow" to other versions I have heard, too. :P

Her voice was simply lovely, she sang beautifully, and she lives on through her music.

You have 'Live at Blues Alley'? I have that too, but my favorite performance of hers is "Oh had I a golden thread" that performance is one of the absolute best vocal performances I have ever heard in my lifetime of anyone. You listen to a lot of her songs and you don't realize she can belt. But when she does belt, her voice is still strong and full and rich and not screechy and grating. It's really amazing!!! I recall playing that CD once and told everyone to listen to that song and everyone who heard it dropped their jaws in amazement.

I've only heard one of her songs because we did a dance to it in our dance show when i was in high school... but it was "fields of gold" and i absolutely love it!

I'm a fan of her. Especially her more Jazzy songs. She's great.

I thought it was interesting that Katherine said Eva's version of SOTR is the version she used for her performance (along with someone else's version... she said she did not want to sing the Judy Garland version)...

She combined Eva's version and Jane Monheit's (Jazz singer) version when she sang that song. Here's a link of Jane Monehit version if anyone is interested in listening.
