Title: Elliott At The Hob, San Diego

sdmom - June 16, 2007 06:30 PM (GMT)
Not much of a poster, more of a lurker but I wanted to share my experience with you all. I can't begin to tell you how excited I was about going to this concert. From Thursday I'd been having butterflies in my stomach. I had seen Elliott when he was here on the AI tour but I knew this would be sooo much better.

My hubby was nice enough to take me; he's not a fan but he likes E's music enough to be there with me. Anyway, we got there about 5.30 pm and there was a short line by the doors. We had bought balcony seats cos as much as I would have loved being up front by the stage, I didn't want to make my hubby have to stand that long. So anyway, we had dinner at the HOB restaurant and by the time we were done eating, they were allowing people inside the theater.

I had planned on sneaking in my camera but changed my mind when I saw them waving the wand over the body. Don't understand why HOB is so sticky about that no camera rule.

Anyway, like I had said , we had balcony seats which were front row and right smack int he middle of the stage. By this time, I was just so happy and excited to be there. The show started pretty much on time. Josh was, to my surprise, a very personable guy. He sounded great and he engaged the audience with his humorous and casual banter. Even my hubby enjoyed him. Josh was like a stand-up comic and singer rolled into one.

He introduced one song of his as a "stalker" song, something about him looking at a girl through the window, and she's unaware of him watching her dance. Sounds creepy but it sounded better lyrically. He did say that for that performace, he would close his eyes and imagine it was Elliott dancing in his underwear and he welcomed us to do likewise. He's a funny guy.

So Josh was done and it was about 15 minutes before Elliott's turn. Finally, his band memebers took to the stage, started playing the intro to "Alright" and then Elliott cam bouncing out and the shrieks and screams and applause just erupted. I added to the noise, believe me I did.

You all know the songs he sang, you all know how great he sounds "live". I just want to say that I lost myself in each song, savoring his voice. I wasn't familiar with "Little Ghetto Boy" but he worked it out, I loved it!

Elliott mentioned visiting the troops, thanking them for what they do right before he sang "find a Way". I've read about how humble he is and all but to hear him talk that way, you can hear the sincererity in his voice and I like knowing that I support someone who is so grounded and I hope he remains this way.

I loved how he sang the introduction of each band member. This has me totally convinced he could sing the phone book and make that sound great!

The show ended all too soon. His voice did sound a little strained at parts but I didn't care, I didn't mind, cos it really was still music to my ears. He threw his towel into the crowd and a little scuffle broke out between 2 girls. Not sure who won eventually

Josh was signing autographs and taking pictures. We hung around for a while, I was hoping to meet Elliott but he never showed. My hubby said that maybe he wasnted Josh to have his chance with his new fans, cos if Elliott showed up, I'm sure everyone would've made a bee line for him. I guess that may have been the reason but I was a little disappointed nonetheless. I had brought my CDs and Sharpies..maybe next time.

So we made our way to the parking garage across the theater. And while waiting for the elevator, the drummer and keyboard player walked over. Sorry, I can't remember their names. We were in the elevator together and I asked them if there were the band (just wanted to confirm) and they said yes. So I told them that they sounded really great (very original, huh?) and to please tell Elliott that he was fantastic! The drummer said they have to tell Elliott that everyday cos Elliott beats them with sticks, making them say that. Of course he was laughing as he said it and I thought is was cute, and just envisioning Elliott beat compiments out of people was hilarious. As if he needed to do that. All he has to do is open his mouth and sing and we willingly gush and swoon!

We were parked ont he same level, and I didn't have my head on right, cos I should've asked to have a picture taken with them but didn't. Their car was almost right by ours!! I could kick myself for that!

I had a great time, so did my hubby. I loved how intimate the venue was and I can't wait for Elliott to come back here.

I love how everyone's encounter with any member of Elliott's tour is a pleasant experience. Elliott, Josh, Monet and the entire band....they all sound like great people.

I just had a problem recounting my visit to HOB in San Diego, so I will try again.

I am a first time poster, but have been "lurking" here from day-one!

I am Ms Lucky!

Friday was one of my best days ever! My daughter, sister, and I went to HOB to see Elliott as a Mother's Day gift to me. We got to will-call about 1/2 hour late (hard to find parking). My daughter was standing in-line when my sister heard, "Elliott, can I take a picture of you with my daughter?" She then said, "Deb, there's Elliott!" I couldn't see him at first in the small group where she was pointing (he is so small...perfect, but small), but when the waves parted there he was!!! I immediately went over to him and told him (gushingly) that I was one of his biggest fans from day-one on AI. I also told him that I was the owner of his jersey from the Connecticut Make-A-Wish Foundation auction last summer. He asked if it was the hockey jersey that all of of them signed. Of course...and I told him that I wanted to wear the jersey to this concert, but my daughter wouldn't let me, out of potential embarrassment to her (Aw Mom!!!!).

I then told him that this was my Mother's Day gift. He was so sweet and wished me a Happy Belated Mother's Day and, best of all, gave me a HUG! WOW...I was in 7th heaven! My sister had been talking to Jamie, who complimented her on her jacket. My sister said how nice and pretty Jamie was. I, however, only had eyes and ears for Elliott!

We went to find our seats, which were also balcony...seats 1-2-3 of the first row of the right-side balcony. I felt as if I could reach down and touch him!

We were only able to catch Josh's last song, but he was great. We then waited the longest 15-20 minutes ever, then out he came to a loud roar! This was an amazing concert...just about the best I had ever been to! I loved the songs so much better in person. There were none of the "production" additions, just the band and Elliott's amazing voice. He seemed so happy to be there and performing in front of fans, friends and family. You could definately see the joy on his face with every song. He pointed out his family, Jamie, and two of his band member's parents, which was very cool. During my fav song, Train Wreck, he introduced the band members, as he kept on singing.

From where I was sitting, I could see the song list in front of his lead guitarist. I found myself counting down the songs and wishing there were more. By the time he came out to sing his encore, everyone was yelling "El-Li-Ott, El-LI-Ott."
It was over...far too soon! I left the venue in a daze, and can't even remember driving home. I went to sleep with a great big smile on my face. I can't wait for the next time he comes to San Diego! I was tempted to drive to LA the next day, but was sure the tickets for HOB were sold out.

This was the Mother's Day gift to end all Mother's Days!!!!

I hope that all of you who got the chance to see Elliott, had as great of an experience as I did!

OOPS!

I just realized that I have not missed his HOB concert in Anaheim, not LA, this week. I am going on the HOB site right now to see if there are available tickets!

Wish me luck!

My daughter was standing in-line when my sister heard, "Elliott, can I take a picture of you with my daughter?"

All I got was a picture of the marquee with his name and even then, a tree was blocking part of it! URGH!

I hope you get to go see Elliott in Anaheim. I would go but I'll be out of town. Have fun!
