Title: My Tale: The Concert And The Sharpie
Description: San Diego, CA
ElliottCat101 - June 16, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
I know there is already a SD concert recap, but I thought I would post mine as well.
First I must gripe about the House of Blues.... They don't allow any camera's in!!! GRRR!!! Okay, movin on...
My sister, mother and I arrived about 5 hours before the door opened (yeah, we might have been a
little over excited! :P) and spent many of those hours circling the House of Blues, because, well, we didn't have anything else to do! LOL
We bought these "Pass the line" tickets that assured us we would be at the beginning of the line, so when we were (finally!) allowed in, we were right against the stage! I met a very nice fellow E-Trainer from Utah who was next to me in line and during the entire show. She said she comes on Etrainstation everyday but doesn't post much... If you're reading this, please let me know who you are! It was a joy meeting you and I would love to stay in touch!
The place was PACKED and the energy was awesome! I think it was a great venue and a great crowd!
Josh Hoge came out first. I've got to be honest with you guys, everyone who's posted about one of Elliott's concerts has gone on and on about how awesome Josh is, and I was a little... doubtful. I just didn't think he'd live up to all the good things I had heard about him. But MAN was a wrong! The guy was wonderful! I really dug his set, it reminded me of John Mayr, Jason Mraz, and Chris Richardson (that's right, I said it!) all rolled into one! He was everything you guys have said!
His audience banter was priceless! At one point he said "Do we have any single guys in the audience?" and looked around... NOBODY raised their hands, so he said "It looks like Relationships are the place to be in San Diego!" LOL The audience just loved him! At one point he said "I read on one of Elliott's sites that someone thinks I have a man-crush on Elliott... I do! (who could blame him? lol) So during this next song, I'm going to close my eyes and picture Elliott dancing in his underwear... You can come along with me if you want!" haha I just loved him! I was going to buy his album, but that never happened (more on that later).Josh finally finished and Elliott came out. The place went nuts! Seriously, the energy was amazing! Here are a few of my thoughts on Elliott:
~ Elliott really really should put out a live CD! I mean, his album is great, but it is NOTHING compared to how he sounds live! I seriously think he should consider doing this during his next tour... Every single song sounds incredible live, and I wish I could have it forever!
~ I love the way Elliott moves to the music, hopping and skipping around. It is so cute! He definitely wins the "dance like nobody's watching" award! lol
~ The thing that makes Elliott such an amazing performer is that he really puts 100% into every single song. Some artists just go through the motions, but you can tell Elliott really feels every single song and puts so much into it... it's not surprising he sweats so much - the guy works hard!
~ His audience banter was also great! When Elliott talks, you can just feel his enthusiasm... it's infectious! Whether he's talking about his band members, the troops, his idols, or his songs, you can feel the love and passion he has.. It's incredible..... and I loved when he would just go off on some random thought that had nothing to do with anything - sooo cute!
At several parts of the show he mentioned how happy he was to be performing in The House of Blues.. He said it had always been a dream of his, since he was a kid, to perform in the House of blues and he was finally able to!
~ I loved, loved, LOVED hearing the audience sing along to his songs! I could hear a lot of people singing during WFY, One Word, and Train Wreck especially. Everyone (even the guys that were obvious dragged their by the ladies in their lives) seemd really into the whole set.
~ I loved that he sang I'm In Love With You Forever... I think that song gave me the most chills... he just sounded amazing on it and the band REALLY seemed into it.
~ Towards the end of the show, he started rubbing his throat and saying that he was losing his voice. I love that he puts so much into every song, but when he was losing his voice I thought that it might be a good idea if he had at least one song that he could sing quietly and calmly.
~ Elliott threw his towel into the audience, and my sister and the girl next to her both caught it. They fought over it for a while, and then agreed to cut it in half.THE FOLLOWING IS THE BEST PART So the best concert of my life ended, and we went to go try to find scissors to cut the towel in half. We looked for about 15 minutes with no luck, and the other people eventually said "just keep it, it's no that big of a deal." YAY! Josh Hoge was signing autographs and taking pictures at the merchandise booth, and we decided to go shopping.
We bought an Elliott shirt, and my sister and I got in line to get a pic with Josh while my mom went to buy his CD to get signed... My sister and I were almost up to Josh when my mom yells for my sister and says "Give me your Sharpie!!!" (my sister had a silver sharpie in her pocket in case we met Elliott and could get his autograph... we're optimists, ok? LOL).. I was curious as to why she needed the sharpie, so after I handed it over I started watching what she was doing. She handed the sharpie to this blonde woman who said "YES! this is perfect! I will pay you for this!" and my mom said "no it's okay, it's just a sharpie" and the lady said "no really, I'll pay you!". A lightbulb went on in my mom's head and she said "Can you get us Elliott's autograph?" and the lady said "Sure! this is the best trade I've made all night!"
It turned out that lady was Elliott's manager. Elliott was doing a Meet&Greet Session backstage and his sharpie had run out of ink and they were desperate to find another one! AND WE HAD ONE!!! AAAHHH!!!!
So the lady took us backstage to meet Elliott! He looked tired but very happy and enthusiastic. We told him we LOVED the show and he said "Thanks so much! I had a blast too!" and then he apologized that his voice was going.
He was signing pics of himself, but at first we were told we wouldn't get one because we weren't contest winners. My mom went up to Elliott first and handed him one of the two CD's we had brought. He asked "What's your name?" and she said "well, we only have two CD's, so you should make them out to my duaghters.." Elliott's response was adorable: "You ONLY have two?!" and then he shook his head and chuckled. I told him "well, we actually have more, but we only carry two around with us." and he said "Oh, that makes sense! you need room for other things..." LOL
When he went to sign my sister Caitlin's autograph, he started to write it c-a-i-t-l-A-n.. he was halfway through the second A when she said "no, it's an 'I'!" and he stared at it with his eyebrows furrowed trying to figure out how to fix it. Finally he gave up and just dotted it and kinda shrugged. My sister said "It's okay; it's just a very FANCY I!" and he laughed and said "Exactly!" and I said "yeah, I'm sure you did that on purpose.." and he perked up and said "Yes! yes, I did! I wanted to give it a little extra flavor, you know? It's better this way!" and we were like "yes, it's very cool!" and he laughed.
We didn't have a camera with us, but this very nice lady offered to use her camera to take our pic with him and email it to us (if you read this, THANK YOU!!!). My mom asked "Can we have a pic with you?" and he said "Absolutely!" and grabbed me and pulled me close to him! :awe: Boy was he moist! LOL very cold and wet from sweat! haha but he didn't smell bad at all!
When we were done taking the pic, I asked him if he was going to come back to CA on his next leg of the tour and he said "honestly, I dont know where we're going.. But I would love to come back here! this is such a great area that I just really love a lot, you know? I always love coming here, and my family's here... so I don't know, but I sure do love it here." Then my mom said "I love your hair!" and he laughed and said "thanks a lot!" and she said "Can I touch it?" and he said "Sure!... but it's kinda wet (from sweat!) right now..." but that didn't stop my mom! LOL she said his hair is as soft as she always imagined!
Then my sister asked for a hug goodbye and he happily obliged.. She thanked him, and he said "Thank you! I am just so blessed to get to do this and have all ya'll support me!" But at that point the security (which didn't want to let us in to begin with) was getting annoyed at us so I left...And then I melted into a puddle!so yeah. that was pretty much the most awesome day of my life. The singing was AMAZING and getting to meet him was such an amazing, unexpected surprise! I am still in heaven today 9.
I love Elliott, I love his manager, I love Josh Hoge, and I love the Etrain! :cloud9:

harleywoman - June 16, 2007 08:56 PM (GMT)
What an awesome recap. :rocker: Wow, it pays to carry a Sharpie.
ETA: I can understand why he was losing his voice, I'm sure he did a lot of talking yesterday greeting the troops. God love him. :awe:

Elliottcat,
What a wonderful recap!!! it's surreal, isn't it???
I must totally disagree with one of your comments, though
"~ The thing that makes Elliott such an amazing performer is that he really puts 100% into every single song.."

pdlvne - June 16, 2007 09:11 PM (GMT)
Great recap. It does pay to carry a Sharpie!
sdmom - June 16, 2007 09:14 PM (GMT)
So your sister was one of the girls whom I saw catch the towel. I saw the little tug of war going on from the balcony...it's great she got to keep it.
Ooo, I'm so jealous you got to meet him! I had 4 Sharpies with me! 2 blacks and 2 sliver. If only I had hung around a little longer. Oh well, I'm glad you had a great time meeting him.
I like how you recapped some of the things I left out. There's just so much to say and I couldn't state it all eloquently enough, you know. I think I probably saw you and your mom and sis, cos I did see a younger girl holding a towel.
Maybe one day we'll meet at another of Elliott's concerts.
Rick1965 - June 16, 2007 09:23 PM (GMT)
That is one of the best recaps so far!!

*Note to self-always carry many a WORKING silver sharpie at all times, just in case Elliott Yamin is in need...
Thank you SO much hon for one of the bestest recaps so far!!! Congrats on the towel, on meeting him, on the pic with him, and most of all, being able to get the "E"xperience LIVE!!! There is nothing like it on earth, and if there is anyone out there that could leave on of that man's shows without being on cloud 9 grinning from ear to ear, we need to have a talk....
MUWAHHHHH!!
xxoo

Great recap! Glad you got to meet him and get his autograph. Things always work out for a reason. How incredibly sweet is he? His voice brought us all in but I think his personality has turned us from just fans into FANATICS! In a good way!
chloewannabee - June 16, 2007 10:43 PM (GMT)
Guaranteed!!!!! Every e-trainer will be carrying asilver sharpie at all times!!!
I have a new pkg of 2 that I bought after the Philly concert. Unfortunately, I haven't seen E since then. But they are with me everywhere I go. Never know when they'll come in handy!
Maybe I ought to buy some stock in the Sharpie company!

I don't think the younger girl holding a towel was my sister.. I think you probably saw the little girl that caught another towel. My sister is an older teenager.
We should definitely meet up the next time E comes to SD!

Hi! I'm the lurker from Utah!! I just got back from San Diego late last night. I'm so excited for you still, and I want to see your picture meeting him!! I'm still jealous you got the towel, j/k! :o) and your mom touching his curls! (sigh!) I was so happy meeting you, your sister, and your mom. We need to stay in touch!!So me and my mom waited outside the venue til like 11-11:30. His band came out and his merchandise guys so we talked to them and they said they don't know if he will be out because his family is in town. Then later we spotted him and Jaime coming out of another door. They went on the bus and he came out for a little bit. A guy with him said he couldn't stay long, but he still signed autographs for us and I shook his hand! He was soooo nice and kept saying "I'm sorry I have to go." So he went heading up the street and we decided to go back into the hotel we're staying in, and we were staying in the same hotel! I felt embarrased and said "I promise I'm not following you I'm staying in the same hotel." He was nice and smiled. That night was one of the best nights ever! Meeting him and front row, WOW! :o)

Aaahh how fun! What an awesome story!! I'm so glad standing out there paid off (even if you guys were rushed)! :) I read on Sunday which hotel he had been staying at and I thought to myself "wow! I wonder if they knew that..." guess you found out! LOL I think it's kinda cool that you guys were staying in the same hotel, though I guess I understand how it might have been a little awkward following him there! haha but it still seems like a fun time and I'm sure Elliott understood!
I guess I'll post my picture, but I kinda don't like the way I look in it :P
We ABSOLUTELY need to keep in touch! It was great getting to meet the two of you!
PS: I'm still kinda jealous my sister got the towel as well... shoulda been me! ;)
