Title: A Capitol Fourth
Description: "National Spectacular"
ohioguy45780 - July 2, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
Just a note to say don't forget to set your Tivos for the 4th! I just noticed my PBS station will be playing the program 3 TIMES!
The TIVO listing has Elliott's name attached; not all artists made the cut!
This is just sooooo HUGE! One of the biggest events in Washington for the year.
**It is an INVITATION-ONLY event. The orgainizers choose THE ARTIST.**
I'm sure Croshal did some pushing, but they didn't have to issue the invite.
He is the ONLY "current" "pop" music artist performing. Broadway, country music and gospel are also represented.
Tony Danza hosts; Hayden Pantierre ("Heroes" cheerleader; yes, she sings), Bebe Neurwirth (Lillith!), Yolanda Adams, Dierks Bentley, and the legendary Little Richard also perform. Duets are common....
The National Symphony Orchestra will back ALL the singers. Elliott will soar with the full force of an orchestra behind him!
The program includes a salute to 'West Side Story'. Maybe Elliott will get to sing "Maria" or "One Hand , One Heart".... ;-)
PBS's highest rated show! 10-12 million viewers, with 500K on the Washington mall itself.
"The spectacular concert and show brings PBS viewers an unrivaled evening of patriotic and uplifting music followed by a stunning display of fireworks over the Washington Monument."

Definitely, since Elliott mentioned in some interviews recently that he's a fireworks junkie. ... I wonder whether he's ever seen the DC fireworks from the Mall before. He'll be having a good time, I'm sure.
harleywoman - July 2, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
Set TiVO, why, what's going on? :justkidding:  OG, your post made my heart swell. Yellin, I'm with you, never have and never will criticize E's management.
I've had the privilege of watching the fireworks from the Department of the Interior rooftop terrace. That was awesome, but then it took forever to get out of DC.
luvthatelliott - July 2, 2007 02:27 PM (GMT)
That is so awesome that Elliott was asked to perform... pretty incredible really when you consider he's just starting out. I love it and I continue to be so proud of our hometown guy. I know he'll do us proud. Look at how far he's come - actually chokes me up thinking about it. What a great Cinderella story! Move over Fantasia!

There was a thread on this yesterday. I captured the PBS ad and put it on my web site. The link to the site is in my signature.
I'm hoping that Elliott opens with the Star Spangled Banner and that is second song is "You Are the One."
It will be interesting to watch the iTunes and Amazon charts after Wednesday's performance.

Actually I'm hoping that he does "America the Beautiful". I don't believe he will be doing "You are the One". He said on an interview that he would be doing a song from the record that he also performed on tour.
imthesame - July 2, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
My PBS ad mentions Elliott first - it talks about the special and then says with "Elliott Yamin", etc. (spells name correctly - you see the names but no pictures of the performers and the patriotic background is seen behind the names.).
I know what you mean, OG. I have my TiVo set to my WishList with Elliott's name. When I went to my WishList there was a listing for ELLIOTT - I love it. Iassume all the ads are all the same for PBS.

I hope he sings America the Beautiful too - memories of the late, great Ray Charles.
georgiafan1 - July 2, 2007 03:01 PM (GMT)
I saw the commercial many, many, many times last night on PBS. I saw it on both of our PBS stations.
It was so nice to see/hear Elliott's name listed first and to see it spelled correctly.
Huge honor for him.
I hope Elliott sings "ASFY" or "One Word". Both would be amazing with an orchestra.
onlyforelliott - July 2, 2007 03:04 PM (GMT)
Harley,
Aren't you close enough to take a long coffee break and get close enough to hear the rehearsals and report back to us? Now there's a wishlist. :rotfl:

Not really. The Capitol is a cab ride away, I'm at 18th & C in the Department of the Interior building. Actually, even if I could get there, I wouldn't "spill the beans". If Elliott wanted it to be a surprise, far be it for me to ruin that. :elliottcap:

Wow please on America the Beautiful. Ray's version is my absolute favorite, and only Elliott can come close.
I just set it yesterday... thanks for the warning OG. Now to watch my kids and make sure they don't fill up my dvr with cartoons and I find it's too full Wednesday.
elizajv - July 2, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
And don't forget to upload the video for us international fans who can't see the event live on TV.
luvthatelliott - July 2, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
Believe it or not the first time I paid any attention to the Ray Charles version of America the Beautiful was when I heard it on a news show after 9/11. I fell in love with it and went on a CD hunt until I found it. I would LOVE to hear Elliott do this. What a GREAT suggestion, Linda! If he sings it, I'll bawl like a baby but it would be amazing.

The first time I heard Ray's version was on the movie "Sandlot" during the Fourth of July celebration in the movie. It was very moving, and I would love to hear Elliott sing this song.
had to come back and add the :fireworks:

I just watched "Sandlot" last night. During Ray's America the Beautiful, I thought I hope Elliott sings it at A Capital 4th. It is the perfect song for him.

I got goosebumps on goosebumps when I read the above from OG's post! How awesome is that? If I had time to cry, I would, I'm so happy for Elliott, as he deserves ALL GOOD THINGS to come his way! So, so proud! :awe:

Guys, don't worry. We all know Elliott can time travel. He can do both places and nights. :)
luvthatelliott - July 2, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
Yeah... I hadn't even thought about it! How could they possibly air ir on the 3rd? I got so excited at the possibility of seeing it I didn't even think about that! I wonder if PBS is airing last year's celebration on the 3rd?
