itslate - July 3, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
Oh boy, I wonder what the die hard fans have to say about this. No, I don't want to hear their crappy rationalization. Well she did want to get into the movies, just didn't say what kind.

DISGUSTING! I thought she was better than that, I guess not

yellin4yamin - July 3, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
I say, it is her life, and more power to her. Let us not forget that Elliott's gorgeous other half is also in a MAXIM mag contest, and I for one, don't feel anything less about her because of it;) Kat is a beautiful girl, and I guess, who am I to judge? I don't like it when people say mean or ignorant things about E so I guess it wouldn't be fair to do the same to others. WWED?? JMO though;)

lol;)

junker3 - July 3, 2007 08:53 PM (GMT)
Yah, true. I mean, I never thought Kat would do something like this, but I've been proven wrong! But whatever, we should just be glad at how good our idol is doing.

It is different. Kat is a role model to many young girls. Also this makes it look like she is trying to sell sex in order to sell her music and that isn't right.

By telling little girls they can strut their stuff and things will come to them, is a very bad message to be sent.

goelliott - July 3, 2007 08:59 PM (GMT)
Katharine is style over substance, as she's shown time and time again. you don't even hear about her voice or music anymore, it's all about posing on magazine covers. The thing is she can sing (non-screeching aside) so I think it's kind of sad she goes this route...But it seems to please her fans. They seem more the type to like pretty pictures than talent or music or intelligence.

I agree with you completely on that point Mike, plus I think if a model, or covergirl is what she wanted to be, like Jaime, then there is a difference. I just don't like having h8tr energy...it isn't good for the soul, and you can't change who she is, or what she does, so what is the point I guess...lol;)

Although, I did read on the idol forums some pretty negative things about Elliott, and they say, WE, or others are h8ting on her because we are "jealous" or "just don't have a clue"...well someone there said Elliott has yet to have a top 10 single...

ummmmmmm...ok...maybe they should get a clue?

I only feel sad for Kat with these pictures, she is now the very thing that I adhor about the current crop of female singers (is she a singer anymore?). This magazine is a pathetic excuse for a mens' magazine, little substance, rather inane articles. Kat's PR people are going in a million directions to make her next "it" girl, only to have her thrown aside for the next cute thing, a pop princess from a group like the Pussy cat dolls or the next cute sitcom actress from a show like One Tree Hill. This kind of buzz never lasts, being one's self and being talented always does.

itslate - July 3, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
Well I know I shouldn't have taken a peak at the otherside. Just goes to show where most are coming from.

So Kate is doing what most other female singers find themselves doing today. It's what I hate about the music industry today, not so much Kate (well I don't have to like her do I?). She's beautiful no doubt. Most of the female singers I admire, I've always admired for their singing/writing/musical skills anyway. I'm here and not over there because it's the voice I love. I'm just one of those that looked at AI as a singing contest. But that's just MHO.

agreed.
feel bad for all those girls that look up to her, and I think using your body like that is wrong. I would never do that, even for lots of money!

I think Kat is simply stepping in line with the current mindset in the marketing/music culture. She is certainly not alone amongst female Pop 'artists' using their sex appeal as the primary way of selling their music. Take Rihanna, Fergie, Ciara, Kat deLuna, please. They're busy selling their wares and male artists like T-Pain, Shop Boyz, Akon are busy treating women as sex objects. Even the god, Justin Timberlake. Doesn't seem he's been hurt much by ripping off Janet Jackson's blouse on primetime!

I'm not at all condoning this type of attitude since I find it totally demeaning to all, especially women. Whenever anyone has the guts in this culture to step outside this line of cool, like Elliott, I applaud them even more. Personally, I think the popularity of songs like Kelly Clarkson's "Never Again", Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" and Pink's "U and Your Hand" are signs of a backlash to all this objectifying.

I think it takes alot of strength of character to withstand the pressures to sell your body to the highest bidder, when that's where the greatest monetary rewards come from - especially when you're as beautiful a girl as Kat is. But everyone has experiences that test them and offer growth opportunities. This is one more for Kat. Who's to say how many tests, she, or anyone for that matter, need in order to stand in integrity. Cause that's not so big in the current marketplace at this time.

I can envision all horny young men in America locking themselves in bathrooms, sneaking into the garage, or crawling under the sheets, flash light in hand so they can digest the pearls of wisdom that she will spew.

This is it young men; the goddess will reveal the most intimate secrets of young womanhood, those things that have baffled all men through the ages. Jocks in every locker room across the land will experience an epiphany when she ‘who is the sum of all women’ unleashes naughty little womanly secrets in one volcanic eruption of like ya know, like, likes.

Seriously, I doubt men will even notice the accompanying text so don’t waste the ink. Just publish the pics, and give the air brush guy and photochop department a bonus, and the copy writer the time off.

There is no need to be apologetic about beauty. The beauty industry is profitable, and a legitimate profession. What upsets me is that some young girls may listen to her foolish babble, and not value themselves as individuals, and some young boys will remain delusional.

You're splitting hairs.

I am not going to judge Jamie, but I have seen many more revealing photos of her. I don't like Katherine, and I wouldn't even refer to her as a singer anymore, but I don't see a difference between what she is doing and what Jamie does whether she is a model or not. Not all models are in a Maxim contest.

If no one here is judging Jamie on this, then they shouldn't be judging Katherine either.

I agree with lex ^^

I couldn't care less about the pictures -- they're a dime a dozen these days -- but those quotes? What a shallow, shallow individual.

Way to set women back 50 years, Kat. Thanks.

I just read through that board and they are awful!!!! I'm not going to mess with them or anything... I'll just vent here but seriously, they need to just back off. They keep saying that all we care about is numbers and that Elliott's never been on the cover of a "real" magazine so he's "not that big". WHAT COMPLETE BS!! :protest:

and Katharines never seen a top 20 hit, either ;)

so, I guess she isnt too successful.
whoaa. i wish I was on that thing.
I want to say something, REALLY badly now.

whatever.

When her song can get PAST #21 on the top 40 -- NOT EVEN BILLBOARD charts, we can talk.

Yea they are. Makes me not feel bad at all for saying Kat sucks..and her new single is already dropping in spins at 234 a week! Can't wait for them to see that radio isn't going to start playing her because of a "hot video"...also i like the fan that said Kat was making him tight in the pants..she really does attract the creeps :yuck:

It's a shame. She really can sing, but she seems to be going for a completely different image and is more of a model than a singer. I have no problem with people who are in touch with their sexuality. However, I don't like when people are objectified as if they are a "thing" without feelings. Even more so when it is not a form of expression, but rather a ploy to sell more CD's or w/e the particular product it might be.

To me, this is just a rule rather than an outlying exception. This expolitation has been going for a long time. Instead of being artistic, expressive, and it be apart of the individuality, it is more about garnering money and power. The looks are a means to achieve the ends in a lot of music today, which in turn makes the artistry suffer.

it will only get worse.

within the last month, Elliott has surpassed Katharine on the radio play, the overall airplay chart position, the overall Billboard Hot 100, and the overall Neilsen BDS.
This was, of course, AFTER his appearance on the AI6, which denied McPhee any screen time.

Over the NEXT month, Elliott is likely to pass her MySpace hits, the overall number of weeks on the chart, the overall number of weeks of charting (in any form), and his album will probably outsell hers by mid-August, if not before.

He has already garnered higher critical praise, gotten his song on the NOW 25 compilation, and probably made more money from his "little" indie deal and small tour than she did from her million dollar contract.

and, of course, he will be taken far more seriously, as a singer, and a performer, and not just treated like some plasticine pinup.

Being a Kat fan pretty much must be a b***h right now.

Truth is. sex doesn't sell like people always think it does. Heck, the top two selling AI females, Kelly and Carrie, don't have to do overtly sexual stuff like she does (pose nearly nude on mens magazines, wear super-skimpy clothes, etc.) and they still have sold way more than she has.

At least with AI it doesn't. Anyone remember Becky O'Donahue from last season? Didn't work for her either :rotfl:
