Title: Help Wfy Move Up On Top 40 Chart
Description: Let's get WFY to #1

movin2thabeet - July 17, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
**UPDATED 8/21**

WFY is currently at #4 on the Top 40 Charts.

If WFY is going to move up the Top 40 Chart, the song needs to :
1. Remain high on the Top 40 stations that have E in their top 5.
2. Continue to increase in spins on all the other stations that are playing him, at least into the Top 10.
3. Get added to the playlists of those stations not yet playing him.

Basically, this means to continue to request from your local and regional Top 40 stations, as well as the other E-friendly AC, HAC, RAC and Rhythmic formatted stations.

And to further focus our efforts, I did a check to see which Monitored Top 40 stations are without Elliott on their playlists and which are currently below Top 20 play. Both these cases will have the greatest impact on the Top 40 Chart, since the ranking is by number of spins and not audience impression and these stations have the possibilty of the greatest gain in spins.

Monitored Top 40 stations - WFY NOT on Playlist:
Melbourne FL: WBVD 95.1 http://www.wbvdfm.com 321/821-5477 L
Buffalo NY: WKSE 98.5 http://www.kiss985.com 716/644-9850 L

Monitored Top 40 stations - WFY below Top 20 Play:
Dropped Below Top 20
Los Angeles CA: KIIS 102.7 http://www.kiisfm.com 800/520-1027 L
San Diego CA: KHTS 93.3 http://www.channel933.com 858/570-1933 L
Fort Collins CO: KSME 96.1 http://www.kissfmcolorado.com 877/498-9600 L
Wilmington DE: WSTW 93.7 http://www.wstw.com 302/478-1010, 800/544-9370
Jacksonville FL: WFKS 97.9 http://www.979kissfm.com 904/739-2979 L
Indianapolis IN: WNOU 93.1 http://www.radionow931.com 317/239-9393 L

Not Yet Reached Top 20
Syracuse NY: WWHT 107.9 http://www.hot1079.com 315/421-1079 L

Remember, phone requests are known to be most effective and I'd recommend contacting those stations in your local or regional areas. This list might not be completely exhaustive but I think it's pretty close.

Again, all your local and regional radio stations need regular requests if WFY has any chance of further movement up the Pop chart. #4 is great, but the song is still going strong so it is definitely possible for an even higher ranking (can you say #1?) with our help!

rockermanross - July 17, 2007 03:40 AM (GMT)
Great threa dM2thabeat. Can you also post a list of stations with decreasing play so listeners around that area can request more.

alienhamster - July 17, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
This is a must-read for everyone. I think we're basically at the point now where each Etrainer should try to call each format in their area once a day (targeting different DJs as much as possible). That's pop, HAC, AC, and rhythmic. We know first-hand from our experience and success at KYLD in San Francisco that increasing PHONE requests in each shift has direct effects on spin rotation at these stations. We can do this elsewhere.

As for rhythmic, I think our best current bets are:

(1) WIRED in Philly: http://www.wired965.com/

(2) B96 in Chicago: http://www.b96.com/

Each of these stations has played him a little, and the PDs at both have said they are interested in the song.

If we don't jump on this now/soon, we will miss the window of the song's current hotness. I don't want to cut into our celebrations here--not my intent at all. But if we want him top 5, we've got some work to do.

You know I used to include the Decreasing Stations on the Radio Play Updates thread, but the list got too long and way too time consuming to keep up. Since Mediabase only lists the top 50 stations on their charts, you don't see the stations that have fallen off top play. You can search for them, and you can keep tabs via Yes.com but that gets into additional hours of tracking and I'm already over an hour a day of tracking/reporting as it is.

The bottom line anyways is that all phone requesting is helpful now. If the station is at great play, they need to have the support to stay up there. If they are at moderate or stagnant play, they need encouragement to build play. And if they are decreasing, obviously, we need to let them know there's still interest in the song. So ultimately, continued requesting is equally important at all stations, no matter where on the continuum they are.

I created this thread since those with the lowest level of play have the greatest potential to make a difference on WFY's ranking, regardless of their status as new starters or those decreasing play.

parsimmon - July 17, 2007 04:06 AM (GMT)
Oh, I agree..it's a journey. I keep bringing up my sports analogy..each week ..a new game. Last week was great, and the goal of #1 is great..but right now..lets focus on reaching #7. (I'm talking mediabase..because it's in our hands(regionally speaking).
7 is within our reach. Tulsa has an online request..and, yes, I understand we don't all want to flood them at once..but over the week we could mail in requests. They have an option for any state..so I guess they'll take my online request.

Thank you Movin'!!!!!!!

I love what you have done!!!!!!

Thank you for the focus on Top 40 analysis. Since all station formats are included in your wonderful compilation threads, (Radio Tracker and Update,) this is exactly the sort of clarity we need to know how to keep Top 40 mojo going if we have any way of making a positive impact toward a continued increase in spins in the Top 40 format.

Are the stations in Peoria and Alaska monitored? I'm interested in any other Top 40 stations that have fallen through the cracks. Their spins count the same as those from Texas, although I realize do not carry the punch on audience impressions, but I'll still take them.

Also we should discuss how to manufacture some spins....i.e. stations that have no refusal request hours that have already played WFY.

But before I forget, bravo Movin'.....just top notch.

Thanks sk8888. Unfortunately, neither the Anchorage nor the Peoria stations are monitored by Mediabase.
It's looking good so far tonight. Most rankings under #15. I've noticed that Yes.com updates their rankings sometime after midnite eastern time.

Elliott was being played 2 weeks ago on fresh102.7 in new york, a lite fm station. At that time they had a survey, where you could vote for Elliott. Anyway, they haven't played him at all in quite a few days. I went to see if the poll was still there, and it's not. But here is the link for requests

http://www.fresh1027.com/pages/157611.php

Also, if you sign up to be a member, there's a survey, which Elliott is on, so maybe that would help as well.

Requested and completed the survey. Was that a remix of Daughtry's song?

I just texted them.
The 800-949-1027 request line, you just record your request.

I've been calling the 877 649-1027, but havent gotten any answer. Is it a live person, Nancy?

I didnt hear the Daughtry , was it the acoustic version that I heard last week on this sta? I didn't like it at all.

No, it is not a live person. You record your thanks, push 1 to listen, and then you are asked to save your message.

I believe the Daughtry song was the acoustic version. I didn't care for it either.

Back to ways to help Elliott move even higher up the Top 40 Chart -

A good point to note is that most stations amp their play of the Top 5 songs on their playlist considerably. The difference between spins of the #10 and #5 song is often about double. This is the biggest leap in a station's playlist as up to that point, the increase as you go up the playlist is more gradual and incremental.

So if we want E to continue to climb on the Pop charts, we need to try to get him into the Top 5 on as many stations as possible. I've been tracking this level of play for awhile now and right now there are about 24 Pop stations there. This number has only grown a little recently.

Just to give you a tangible example of what it looks like to make it into the top 5 on the national chart, Fergie's Big Girls Don't Cry is currently #1 in the nation. When you look at this song's Mediabase charts, the biggest difference between it and WFY's is that the top 50 stations are all spinning at 88 spins and above. In WFY's case, the #50 station is at 49 spins. Actually, only WFY's first 10 stations are at that high level of play versus the top 50.

So if your local and regional stations are not yet at the top 5 level of play (and only 24 monitored stations are), see if you can maximize your phone requests to various DJs throughout the day and evening and see if we can move WFY up the Pop charts.

Hi..there's still a way to vote for him . click on the listen live button and when the popup opens, you'll see his name listed among some other tabs on the left side. Click on Elliott, and another popup box will open where you can vote.

Hi Movin',

I've been meaning to ask you something about the information you detail for us.

Is there any way we could know if a station has taken a song to #1 or Top 10 and is on the decline versus a station that has yet to get him into the Top 10? If you've been doing something already and I've missed it, my apologies.

For me that would help enormously in how I would request WFY at a station. If they've been E-friendly, it means that the evening and overnight shifts are still great targets, while a station yet to achieve this maybe stuck in those shifts and I might push for requests during the afternoon and mid-morning.

Again, thanks for the detail and info.

Sk888...I just called Melissa, she rarely plays Elliott....and she was SO NICE and played him just like that.
Now he has aan mid-morning spin.
I called 4 x since (different shifts) since yesterday..because Elliott's dropped out of the TOP 5 on KRQ..which is critical to me..they are the only station playing him here in Tucson. The others haven't added him yet. :(

Great feedback Pars!

I think each station has its own form of determining burn-out, and when a previsously "E-friendly" station starts to decline, I think they just need to hear some people call in, like you did, to wonder when it is going to be played again.

Tucson has been so good for so long that it's hard to complain. But, what's up with the other stations in Tucson you mentioned? Are they Adult Contemporary or Rhythmic? Could that be it?

They are HAC, AC, And Rhytmic..and they haven't jumped on the bandwagon. I'm really disheartened too. :( But what can I do, I've already made it known to both stations I want to hear them..now it's up to them. Once they add him, I will say thanks, and request. But I can't pressure them. that could really backfire..as we know from Taylor and Clay.
Mutiple requests from several people..fine..mulitple requests from one obsessed, crazed fan...I think not.

Agreed.

You can only do so much. Now we have to hope these other radio stations are watching how WFY is picking up momentum and spins in their respective formats.

It will happen. :rocker:

Yesterday Nanassetta posted the upcoming television tour as noted on the Croshal MySpace:

Elliott Yamin will also be doing a television tour next month performing his single "Wait For You". See below for dates:

8/13 Miami - South Florida Today (NBC)
8/14 Atlanta - Atlanta & Company (NBC)
8/15 Baltimore -Fox 45, Voice of America
8/17 New York- Fox Morning News
8/22 Chicago -Fox Thing In The Morning

Should we be doing anything in these radio markets? I know that Chicago has been sluggish and Baltimore and Miami just a little better....while Atlana and NY have hopped on-board awhile back.

Should we request after we've "seen" Elliott on these shows, or call in advance to grease the wheels?

p.s. Thx Nan for posting the television appearance schedule.

Sk8888, I had been documenting Decreasing play but it got to be way too big a job. Unless you're tracking the whole radio dial daily as it seems I am, there's no great way to know if a song is coming down from Top 10 play or moving towards it. One way to get a feel is to check the Mediabase chart of that station and see if the change in spins is positive or negative and if the previous week had a higher or lower ranking. Also, I've been tracking the Top 5 of all stations and the Top 20+ of the Top 20 stations on the Top Post summary of the Updates thread, so if a station drops off either of those lists then you know they are decreasing. Also, if you'd noticed, I now make '+' and '-' notations for the Top 20 Radio Markets to make it easier to quickly check what kind of change is going on daily. I've also started to include the 20-30 rankings as well in the Top 20 so we could see what was building or dropping play more easily.

Ultimately I don't think it's too critical to know if a station is decreasing or increasing as most people have limited time to call as it is and any phone calls in either case would be great. If you have any specific questions about a station, feel free to PM me as I might know the answer.

I also wouldn't stress the slower pace of the building of other formats as I feel certain that E's team is working with a rollout plan and we are just in the beginning stages of the AC, HAC and Rhythmic portion of that plan. I'd just keep calling these stations in your local and regional station on a regular basis, building up a rapport with DJ's at various shifts and, simultaneously, it would be very beneficial to be contacting other E-fans in your area to encourage them to do the same. A group of people contacting the station without harangueing them with e-mails, versus one lone persistent fan will be way more effective.

Taratova - July 20, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
I request almost all stations. Someone has to fill in for the stations that are getting very little or no requests. One Dj e-mailed back and said it was his first request in 6 months. It must have been a very small station.

I don't advise every one to do this. Then spam will hurt Elliott but a few requests will be fine. I request and rotate the requests to keep it going. I especially e-mail the stations that need more spins or are dropping.

New Jersey started out slow but the Atlantic City station and others are starting to get the message how good this song is.

Elliott is crossing over to other formats which makes this song a good staple for a while on the AC stations.

This above chart is a good informative read to know what is going on with the stations. Movin To the Beet put alot of time getting this together. Thank you for that!

movin2thabeet - July 20, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
Wow, what a difference a couple of days make! This week has seen Elliott increase spins on most stations across the board. Almost all monitored Top 40 stations are now in the top 20, with a good portion in the Top 10 and a growing number in the Top 5. I updated the Top Post of this thread to reflect the changes.

Now, it's a matter of getting WFY into the Top 5 on as many stations as possible, and all into the Top 10.

Also, check out the Top Post of the Radio Play Updates thread if you haven't been there recently. Lots of great news there and you can see which stations are leading the way right now.

Include the Reno stations here:

http://www.mmr247.com/mmrweb/AllAccess/Sta...p?c_let=KWNZ-FM

Also, shouldn't WWHT Syracuse be on the "not on playlist" list?

Just wanted to make a correction---the Buffalo station has a 716 area code, not 714!

I heard them play Wait For You the last time I was home...and that was mid-May. I started screaming in the car! I can't believe they haven't added them....

Yeah, it's similar with the Reno stations I just posted. KWYL played him early on and then suddenly stopped. And Syracuse played Movin On but never really added WFY.

Do we think it's worth calling these stations this week? I bet a couple of them would add him back now that he's about to go top 5 in the country. Maybe they just need some lister requests to change their minds.

I updated the Top Post with your additions and corrections, alien and janizzle. Thanks.

Also, Mediabase shows Reno's KWNZ currently has WFY at #21, just out of the Top 20.
