Title: What Do All These Charts Mean?

elliottcrazy - July 31, 2007 02:33 PM (GMT)
I'm posting this with Alien's permission because I think it's a really good easy to understand breakdown of all the charts that are most commonly referrred to on these boards. Alien pm'd this to me in response to a question I had asked.....

"It definitely can be confusing with all these charts.

Mediabase is simply an airplay chart. That's it. No sales considered whatsoever. Seacrest's AT40 countdown is also only airplay based, but they lag behind Mediabase (and the BDS, the other main airplay chart) by about two weeks.

The Billboard Hot 100 counts both airplay and sales each week. But airplay is counted ON ALL FORMATS. The Mediabase chart we're posting is only for Pop music, where Elliott has done best. But he is lagging at rhythmic (where Kingston and Fergie and T-Pain are getting a lot of help), and he won't get played at Rock stations (where Hey There Delilah is getting a lot of help). This is part of why I've been stressing requests at rhythmic."

Phew! I get it now. I thought there might be some other stragglers out there trying to make sense of it all too. I hope this helps.
