My daughter and I saw this on TV and while Miss South Carolina was speaking, my daughter and I looked at each other and said, "HUH???" at the same time. I almost fell off my chair when I heard her nonsensical response to the judge’s question. Then she tried to redeem herself on the Today show and yet, the question why some U.S. Americans like such as out there in your nation can’t locate the U.S. on a map, remains unanswered. And what do THE IRAQ, South Africa and Asia have to do with the educational welfare of America? :crazy: I bet she can’t even locate South Africa, Asia and THE IRAQ on a map!

I just put myself in her mothers place, and such as, I would be so mortified that uh i uh dont know what i'd do. Well first I'd buy her a map, like uh such as, she needs one!

The grammatical errors are too numerous to count. I do feel bad for her in one sense, but then you have to know what you are getting yourself into. This is just ONE of the many reasons I would have never entered a pagent.

Not to defend the Beauty Pagent Industrial Complex....but that really was a tough question...especially in the context of a beauty pageant...She could not possibly answer it without trashing US AMERICA...and you had to know she wasn't going to do that.

How would you have answered it?

My answer would have been "I don't give a flip about education...I just want my own TV show!!"

OMG, I saw this on Letterman the other night. He played it a couple of times, because once just isn't enough. :rotfl: Poor girl. I mean, wow, "such as," I never saw anything quite like that. I've had my share of brain farts, "such as," but that was tremendous. I loved "US Americans," and obviously I loved her use of "such as," especially since she used "like such as" ...that is even better. I can't even imagine what Mario Lopez was thinking while she was giving her answer. He probably had to bite his cheeks so that he didn't crack up laughing.
The thing is, that she is getting more attention out of her flub than anyone who did well, so the way our country works, she will probably get her own show on MTV or VH1. :blink:

I was watching the U.S. Open yesterday (tennis) and they were mentioning how great it is that a lot of Americans are doing well right now. Then the broadcaster said, "Or, as Miss Teen South Carolina would say, great for the U.S. Americans."
