Title: My Computer Monitor
Description: Has developed something nasty

Sorry I don’t know computer speak.

Late last week I opened an email and now there is this pictorial thingy that jumps all over the monitor, and won’t go away. I ran the security clean up thingy that my internet provider offers, (and supposedly runs every time I turn the computer on). There were no viruses, riskware etc, detected but the pictorial thingy still jumps all over my monitor and has now warbled all the images on my monitor and the pages don’t fit the screen. Even when the computer is off the images are still on the monitor.

I have since unplugged my computer at home for fear the thingies will jump out and piss on my carpet.

My question is; should I be afraid?

Don’t bother PMing me the answer, I’m not plugging the evil box back in until a techie looks at it, so I can’t check my emails at home. But I can take a peak on the etrain, when the guy in the cell (ooops I mean cubicle) next to me isn’t hanging his head over the fabric wall.

When the techie comes to perform an Exorcist next week, I would like to know at least a little about what he is babbling.

:rotfl: the thingy you crack me up.
Sounds to me like you have a virus it may not be picked up by your virus software catcher thingy.
I am NOT 100 % maybe itslate can help you because she is a wiz at the computer stuff. I'm a novice,.
Hope you get your the thingy under control!

Thanks WeloveUElliott:

I wasn't sure of the technical terminology and have changed my original thingie to thingy. My spelling is horrid, and computer speak is not my first language.

Your help is much appreciated.

May10787, I suggest you download HIJACKTHIS!. and save it to your desktop. Register at THIS FORUM, the Mods there are very helpful. Run HijackThis! on your computer and post the log at the Removing Spyware and Viruses Forum (under Security). Start your own topic (with HijackThis! Log as your title). Aside from posting the HijackThis! log, tell them everything that's going on with your computer. That way, they can help you better.

Good luck! Hope this works out for you.

LOL, better get you a can of that spot removal for the carpet.

I'm really not sure what you mean by a pictorial jumping all over the screen. And you still see an image on the monitor with the computer off? (could be your monitor going bizerk, not a virus or anything). Do you have another monitor around to plug in? May also be a video card, but with the computer off you shouldn't see an image on the monitor.

I agree with nymphadora about downloading hijack this. One thing I'd like to add about hijackthis... download the newest version... open it and click on "do a system scan and save the log file" You will get a notepad file opened, highlight the file, copy it and paste it here ( a box that says paste here:

http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php?langselect=english

scroll down and click on the analyze button. Ta Da... it will tell you with a red x anything that needs to be removed.

Just use this as a check, unless you are very confident, which I don't get that impression :). I wouldn't suggest removing anything before first talking to some techie. But it's another way to see if you have anything bad on your computer.

I use hijackthis too, but a lot of things come up that aren't necessarily bad and if you delete it you could impair another program. Anything that messes with your windows registry is scary stuff for people that don't know their way around a computer.

I am very familiar with computers so I don't mind going into the registry and deleting a bad key or using a program like hijackthis, but if you don't know your way around it, I don't know if you should use it.

As nymph and its have mentioned, the best thing to do is visit the forums on hijackthis or post the log in here for the tech freaks to help out.

The other thing you want to do is try to roll back to a certain time and date using system restore.
