Title: Ow Video
elliottcrazy - September 16, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)
Anyone know if it's been filmed yet? who directed? where it was filmed...I'm getting beyond ansy just thinking about it.
What we didn't do is create a OW Video 'Idea' thread. ....just to share concepts & ideas for what the OW video could like it. Not that we get a say in that at all...as if :rotfl: but it is fun to speculate.
I'm hoping for something totally 'out of the box'. OW is another ballad so it would be too easy to just make another WFY video just on a bigger budget.
I say ..do something very 'new' but 'old'. That is...have a video of Elliott just singing it live..so the video isn't actually a cut of the record..it's actually Elliott performing it live on stage at any one of his performances...all sweaty & dishevelled but in the E 'zone'. Who does that today? I don't know of any artist who has the cajones actually.
Wouldn't it be refreshing & different from anything else out there right now?....not too mention how it would highlight Elliott at his absolute best.
If executed properly it would really 'break the mould'...& be as exciting as any video I've ever seen.
With the right editing they could use multiple concert footage creating the illusion that he has a 'massive' fan base...which is important for marketing. There's always been a lot of audience participation with OW aswell....again creating the 'feel' that the song is already established & popular. Do you see where I'm going with this?
Oh & wow!..it would be about the MUSIC...what a concept...
OR
is it too early in his career for a live performance video?
Hmmm - September 17, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
*I* would like a live performance type video. However, remembering way back when I was actually watching videos I always preferred the concept ones. It's possible it takes a real fan (or maybe just maturity) to totally appreciate pure performance. Perhaps a blend?

wow, I had actually thought the exact same thing....at least portions of the video should have live concert footage edited in. I am excited beyond words to see the video. My guess is that they have been filming it the last few days/week because he will be leaving for the Philippines soon and the song is supposed to be released this month, I think.

I like to think One Word will have a slightly bigger budget than WFY.
I imagine its gonna be a video of Elliott being totally in love that it'll get the girls all squeeing ;)
I liked this video by John Legend..and I think a variation of it would be nice for One Word.
John Legend PDAAlso this video by Jill Scott.

I know what you are saying..I used to enjoy the 'concept' videos too...but it seems like that's all there is now..you know? Each director is trying to 'outdo' the last one. Don't get me wrong....I really appreciate some of the work out there but I'm ready for something different...especially as far as Elliott is concerned.
A live perormance...as ridiculous as it sounds..is as different to anything I've seen lately...but only if it isn't lip synced over the radio version.... it has to be real footage of a true live performance.
Imagine..there would be two versions of the song out at once..the live performance on video & the radio version.
Of course..this is all based on the presumption that some of his concerts have been recorded with good sound....YouTube cuts wouldn't work.... :rotfl:
Whatever they've done..it's all good for me as an Elliott fan....it's just fun to be an 'armchair' video director. :elliottcap:

I think we are all in agreement. Should we let his management know? LOL
While I agree with you that I wouldn't want Elliott to be just a teen-sensation, I don't think you should necessarily discount the youngish listener (late HS, college). It is a time when you are willing to spend what little discretionary income you have on music. Besides, teens grow up and become adults and from, my experience, continue to be loyal to the artist that sang the "soundtrack" of those times. Elliott has such a strong, mature sound, I don't think there is any worry that he could become Jonas Brother'd, or worse, Hannah Montana-ized. Actually, if I had one concern it would be that because he sings such a good love song that Pop 40 might try to "Air Supply" him. That's part of the reason why after OW becomes a hit, I hope they are considering releasing Alright. I know it gets less favor from music critics, but after 2 love songs I would love for the general population to hear what he can do with a good upbeat lust song.

Re-reading this thread, the second half of my post is out of place. I could have sworn there was a post about not wanting a "teeny-bopper" video. Maybe I read it on another thread... hmmmmm.

Absolutely..the younger listener is a crucial part of the target audience & you're right..they continue to be loyal as adults to those artists they enjoyed as teenagers. I'm testiment to that..Duran Duran, Abba (they dont make music anymoe but I still enjoy their music) The Cult.
I was meaning that typically in the past..teenage heart throbs have been 'flash in the pan' type artists..without any longevity in their career much less garnered any respect from their peers in the industry.
I'm with you..I was hoping for a more up beat song for his 2nd release for the same reasons but I get why they released OW....the 3rd one really needs to be different though definately.
You know someone is going to do the Live video concept sooner or later..it just feels like we are heading in that direction. ..back to a more organic grassroots type of thing. Less fluff..more substance.

I agree, and from YouTube clips, he seems to be even better live than recorded. He brings so much personality to his perfomances. Believe it or not, one of my favorite performance clips is the the Turkey Sandwich Incident. Adorkability at its finests.
I wonder if men get how adorkability can be so darn appealing to women??
I can't wait to see him live this fall. Tickets came in the mail today! Woo Hoo! Now, I just need to let my husband know...
elliottcrazy - September 17, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
Funny..that's my fave clip too. He sounds terrific & then BAM! he's a total doofus in the middle of slaying you with his voice. Does it get any better?... :rotfl:
I love how he can laugh at himself...so sexy. :elliottcap:
Yes Rick was definately onto something..that stuff needs to be bottled & shipped out to the masses.
Hmmm - September 17, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
I don't know, I think it's too powerful of stuff to expose to the general masses! :rotfl: Adorkability was definely a factor with my initial attraction to my husband.
I also love his VH1 intro to Paula's video. All that hemming and hahing and sly looks, again adorkable. Is it wrong for mother of teenage boys to find that confession strangely charming in an adult man?

How about Elliott and his girlfriend Jamie are at the movies...it's a really scary werewolf movie and she makes him leave...he starts singing to her and then dances around her...she's all coy and cute and suddenly he turns into a zombie...and all these living dead creatures start crawling out of their graves and then they join Elliott in this really cool zombie dance...holding up their One Word fingers...except for the ones that fall off due to putrification...and then the zombies trap Jaime in an abandoned haunted house and the zombies start breaking in and then Jamie screams and covers her face and when she looks up again...it's CONSTANTINE...then it really gets scary!!!
I don't think this has ever been done before!!!

Yeah true, like you said nothing out of the ordinary here. But he needs a more polished video to get on MTV. Bigger market there. And a romantic vid would fit one word better. His live version of One Word is amazing but it will not be the version he is releasing to radio. Unless they decide to rerecord.
As for me, I dont need to be convinced. He can release a powerrpoint presentation style video for this song and I will still love this song haha. But why win a market u already cornered. We are here for his music regardless. Its the new market that he needs to tap.
Haha...Too late to save him from teenage heartthrob-dom. He is already there. Have u seen the amount of teenage (obvs) adoration on his WFY vid on youtube?

I like the idea of having his LIVE version for video while the polished recorded version is on the radio..I dunno..just sounds 'out of the box' compared to what everyone else is doing. I guess I'm just sooo bored with the current 'format' of video music in general.

I would make one change: the scary werewolf movie would actually be Constantines latest video.
Other than that..sounds like a hit!
Michael Jackson may have an issue with it though......maybe they could include him in the video aswell. Perhaps they could have Michael dangling Elliott by the leg from a balcony..with Constantine standing underneath with his arms stretched out wide cackling "come to Elliott come to me Elliott"..with Jamie screaming in the background.

:rotfl: This thread is hilarious with some good discussion.
Well, the thriller theme would be appropriate as Halloween approaches. But....I'm not sure the entire zombie dance troupe thing would work well. It would be especially difficult to evoke the feelings of love and passion while dead people rise from the grave.
Anyway, I hope the bigger budget allows them to be more creative. It would be cool to incorporate Jaime into the storyline because of the message of the song. It adds to the meaning and gives it more of the awwwwww factor due to the romantic nature of the song. Either way, can't wait for it.

Just my thoughts....

That's what I was thinking as well. It would be a copy cat of Daughtry.

OR is it too early in his career for a live performance video? |

I agree, and from YouTube clips, he seems to be even better live than recorded. He brings so much personality to his perfomances. Believe it or not, one of my favorite performance clips is the the Turkey Sandwich Incident. Adorkability at its finests.
I wonder if men get how adorkability can be so darn appealing to women??
I can't wait to see him live this fall. Tickets came in the mail today! Woo Hoo! Now, I just need to let my husband know...

You are so right about the live performances........so much personality...
Isn't it strange that the ONE thing that Simon ranked him on continually throughout the show was his lack of "personality", and yet..............

In the news and updates thread, we now have an impact date for One Word on top 40.....that means we should be seeing the video SOON!!!!! Gosh, I can hardly wait......

I'm really hoping that they filmed it during the slot that was supposed to be the London trip. Otherwise, there's very little time, unless it's a live tour video.

I don't think it will be a "live" version. Usually videos are done to promote the record and that's the version you hear during the video. There could be footage from a live concert. Is that what you're thinking? He said in his blog that he was getting ready for his tour and didn't mention video, however, he never let the cat out of the bag on WFY either. We were like, there's a video, WOW. I'm kinda thinking that one has already been shot, where and when, who knows, but I'm thinking long before we think.

Although your idea for the video script is one word "Amazing", and so very creative and unique, I have noticed that a lot of videos today, have young lovelies dressed in what look like harem costumes, and doing what might be close to a belly dance routine. It doesn’t matter that the dancing has nothing to do with the actual story line.
You are going to have to work that into the script. It shouldn’t be difficult to find belly and or pole dancing Zombies. I'm sure there are some lying around LA.
