Title: Elliott In Manila - Sept 21 2007
Description: Manila Day 1 ~ Trinoma

wandergirl - September 21, 2007 06:24 AM (GMT)
Hi everyone,

I opened this topic so we can all post about our experience.

TriNoma ticket distribution
The mall opened at 10AM and there was (according to a friend) a mad rush to queue at the concierge booth. Distribution was quick, and at at around 1035-1040 am tickets were all given out.

Another line was formed for his CDs. First 50 to buy received a poster and also a meet and greet pass. The 50 slots were quickly sold out.

I hopped on the MRT to go to Makati (Glorietta Mall).

Press Conference
This was held at the Activity Center of Glorietta Mall. The ground flr area was covered with curtains, but we could watch from the 2nd flr. It started shortly after 12NN. The event host was Ryan Agoncillo (who also hosted Philippine Idol).

He waved to fans from the 2nd flr. Wheee! :D

A variety of questions were asked: about his AI experience, about his album, his hit song (Wait for You), Filipinos, etc. Someone asked him about his diabetes and he showed everyone the device he wears. Someone asked what his most favorite song in the world is, then asked him to sing a few lines. He didn't sing, and Ryan intervened and said E might want to save his voice for later.

After the presscon proper, he was led to one side (with a backdrop) and small platform for picture taking with Ayala Mall execs. Other media people also had photos taken with him. I didn't wait for him to leave bec. I was already so hungry(haven't eaten anything all morning!).

I'm at an Internet cafe right now, typing and trying to calm my nerves. I wish I can upload pics right now, but the card reader at the shop is being used my someone else.

I'll hop back on the MRT to go back to TriNoma. I'm so excited for his first show.
The stage set-up at Trinoma was simple. Black stage, and there was a wide screen. The outer area of the widescreen was an oval frame thing (similar to the one used on AI haha. Im not describig very well but forgive me my mind is floating and my nerves are all whacked).

wandergirl - September 21, 2007 06:25 AM (GMT)
Forgot to add, that after the press con he went back to the hotel, where some members of the media had one-on-one interviews with him. I think it's still ongoing (almost 230PM, Manila time), so we should expect to see articles and maybe clips on TV showing Elliott :D

Sk8888 - September 21, 2007 07:00 AM (GMT)
Thx for stopping at the Internet Cafe to post here at the Etrain.

I'm really excited for everyone.

yamignonette - September 21, 2007 07:25 AM (GMT)
Guys, Yaminoy Beck posted a recap of today's events (so far) at the yahoogroup and has allowed me to repost it here:

The Elliott Press-con in Glorietta a.k.a. The Amazing Race.

Yes, I was passing by Glorietta this noon (after my Trinoma race-to-
the-concierge event) when I saw Elliott's press-con, which is an
exclusive-to- the-press- people-only event. The activity area was
covered with high walls and white curtains. However, I was on the 2nd
level and had a clear vantage view of what's happening down there.

I immediately sent a text message to Eliza (whom I left in Trinoma to
buy an Elliott CD). She raced to Glorietta to see our Idol in the
flesh.

The press-con started a few minutes after 12nn. Ryan Agoncillo
(Philippine Idol host) did the main interview and there was a q & a
with the reporters. You may want to check tonight's news; GMA-7
covered the event.

Eliza & I represented our group. When someone asked Elliott if he's
aware of our group, he did a shout-out for the Yaminoys and Eliza and
I screamed our lungs out! We were at the 2nd level but Elliott
acknowledged our presence. We had our posters and the cameras were on
us, so I guess, we're going to be on the news tonight. LMAO!!!

As for the press-con, the audio wasn't clear that we had difficulty
understanding every word. Elliott did not sing but obliged to some
photo-ops with the reporters.

After one hour, the press-con was over so Eliza and I raced to the
activity center. Security was tight and we couldn't get a clear view
of Elliott. When he was escorted out of the area going to his car, we
ran after him; I mean, we really had to RUN because Elliott and his
security escorts were walking so fast. So I took a video of him and
talk to him, I told him that we're going to watch his show tonight,
and he was pleased!

I didn't know that a paparazzo's job could be that DIFFICULT and
EXHAUSTING!! ! Eliza and I were running out of breath when Elliott left
the building. (Elvis, anyone?)... and mind you, Eliza was wearing high
heels and I was carrying a backpack! We were laughing our bottoms off
thinking of what we just did! But it was fun!

How do I describe Elliott? Physically, he's very Caucasian but he's
not too tall. He's very simple. And to borrow Eliza's description: he
isn't intimidating. You can tell that he's very nice and accomodating
to everyone.

Can't wait to see him again tonight!!!

Beck

:D

xtn4e - September 21, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
Folks, I just came back from Elliott's first show in Trinoma and let me say it was amazing!!!!

I think eliza will be doing a more detailed series of events since her day started off with attending Elliott's press conference in the morning, but since I'm a bit stoked I thought I'd do a quick rundown now.

The show started at around 7pm with the band then Elliott coming on stage. He tossed out a few Filipino phrases like 'Salamat po' (thank you) and 'Mabuhay' (long live). Then he said he was excited to be here because it's his first international show and started off with 'Movin' On'. He asked the audience if we knew the song and we of course shouted 'Yes!'

It was my first time to hear Elliott sing live and he is really one of those people whose voice, already brilliant on a CD, sounds even better and more vibrant live. The audience were cheering right away. He quickly followed that up with 'Find a way'. What was great as well was hearing him sing the song differently from how his recording sounds. He really adds different runs and changes the phrasing of his songs.

Once the audience applause from 'Find a way' died down, the Yaminoys - or at least the ones I was sitting with - shouted "Train Wreck" a few times. It caught his attention, and he smiled and looked back at his band. I don't know if they were planning on playing it at that point, but he then started spieling how his next song was one of his favorites from his album and that it's about a bad relationship. We knew he was going to sing our request so we started cheering, and true enough he starts singing 'Train Wreck' which was unbelievable!

thanks for the news so quickly - waiting patiently for the rest of the story :-)

Rick1965 - September 21, 2007 02:11 PM (GMT)
Great recap....keep it coming!!

xtn4e - September 21, 2007 02:16 PM (GMT)
He sings 'Free' next. The Yaminoys kinda wanted to stand and even start dancing a bit at this point but he had been told earlier not to stand up during the performance since the people behind us wouldn't be able to see.

Elliott then sings the first song that night that isn't on his CD. He dishes out "In Love with you forever" and by this time the Yaminoys stand up and head to the small area in front of the sound system so that we could dance around there and hold up our welcome banner without blocking the view of anyone behind us.

By this time, Elliott starts thanking all the radio stations for playing his music and everyone involved in bringing his music to the Philippines. That was a clear cue for him to break into 'Wait for you' and the moment the opening riff comes in, the crowd screams wildly. The screaming continues throughout the intro and well into Elliott's second line before dying down so people could listen to him sing.

After this, Russell the guitarist and, darn, sorry, I forgot the name of the percussionist leave the stage, and we start thinking, 'he'll sing ASFY!' Then he talks about how he started in AI and how a certain song became part of his AI journey and how he felt fortunate to be around long enough for him to actually perform it on the big stage. The moment he mentions 'A song for you' the audience erupts in even more shrieking. I have to say, his voice is just absolutely perfect for this song! I had goosebumps listening to him sing it live and I felt very blessed to be there and to have Elliott in Manila.

He thanks the audience and Joonie his keyboardist leaves the stage but the people are shouting 'More'! He says 'But the band's gone' and naturally the people still shout 'More!' So he says, all right, I'll do this last song a capella. One of the Yaminoys said we should request 'Moody's Mood for Love' so we start shouting that. I don't know if one of the Yaminoys knew that this was an a capella encore of his, but he actually does say he would sing 'Moody's Mood for love' to more cheers from the crowd. It was funny actually because he starts in the wrong key and then said so, and started singing again in the right key. Man, it was off the hook!

Linda4Elliott - September 21, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
WOOHOO, thanks xtn4e!!!!! Lovin it

lindagt - September 21, 2007 02:20 PM (GMT)
Wow! That's cool that he sang Moody's because he hasn't sung it since Idol!!!

xtn4e - September 21, 2007 02:29 PM (GMT)
That was his last song for the night and he leaves the stage. Then a couple of announcements are made as to how the meet and greet would be done. A few of the Etrainers and Yaminoys from our yahoogroup made the meet and greet - yamignonette, nymphadora and her daughter, and Mel and Jo. Mel and Jo were in charge of the gift to Elliott and they took that opportunity to give him the "mini-me" replica of Elliott. According to them, Elliott was pleased and even said "I have a doll now!" LOL

During all this time, there was still a crowd standing behind the cordoned off area snapping photos and cheering Elliott on and shouting things like "we love you Elliott!" The 'paparazzi crowd' stayed there til Elliott went backstage.

eliza and beck then got their signed photographs (there was a separate line for that, which was formed after the meet and greet). Then we kinda split up. I was still with Eliza at that point when we saw that there was a huge crowd gathered at the "backstage exit" (in quotations because it was a makeshift backstage). Anyways, we stand there because it seemed Elliott would be heading out that way. And true enough we start seeing some movement. Elliott and his band and entourage are surrounded by very tight security as they move forward. It was crazy! I thought I was going to manage to get a picture but I couldn't. I don't know if eliza managed to get a video. As Elliott passed us, the crowd of people still ended up following them, hoping to catch a photo or see a bit more of Elliott up close. eliza and i were wondering whether Elliott expected to have this kind of reception halfway around the world. It was insane!! :)

Linda4Elliott - September 21, 2007 02:32 PM (GMT)
I'll bet Elliott was overwhelmed with the love, and if he could, he would have met every single person...that's just the way he is. The bigger he gets, the harder it will be to meet him. Thanks so much for the detailed recap!!!! I would have loved to hear MMFL live!

xtn4e - September 21, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
I took some videos of it but I made the mistake of not bringing a tripod and my shoulders and arms ended up being so tired that my video quality is awful. I'll see though if I can put them up on youtube tomorrow. Yammie though did bring a tripod and she said she may have her videos up sometime early next week so watch out for that. A few other folks took lots of photos so you should expect a few more of those to be shared tomorrow.

I'm signing off now because I have to get up early tomorrow morning. I need to get ticket stubs for the seating area for his show tomorrow and to hopefully get a meet and greet pass for my mom who is watching with me (she's also a big fan and says she wants to get an autograph and have a photo taken with Elliott). I was told that the tickets for the seating area ran out in 30 minutes and that people really did get up early to make it to the mall before opening and ensure that they got seats for the show (you could still catch it but you'd have to be standing outside the cordoned off area, which is a bit farther away).

I'll be posting more updates after his next shows - I'm catching all but the Cebu one. I figure a few other folks will be writing about this as well. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic that I got to see Elliott perform. To quote the man himself, all I can say is 'Amazing'!!!

Linda4Elliott - September 21, 2007 02:48 PM (GMT)
thank you, thank you, thank you! Best of luck getting those meet and greet passes for you and your mother :)

xtn4e - September 21, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)

I met Elliott! Up close! :cheerleader1:

Thank you, thank you, Toni! :D Monet was real nice. :)

I also met nymphadora. Thanks for the chocolates. Yum-o! :D

xtn, that was quick. I just got home myself.

However, that was not robelle that got the meet and greet. It's wandergirl. :) I have our photo with Elliott to prove it, too! lol

Elliott also said "Mahal ko kayo."

Oh, Studio 23 just featured Elliott on News Central. The reporter erroneously said Elliott is 90% deaf in one ear. Heh.

wala ako kasama.. :afraid:

wandergirl - September 21, 2007 03:45 PM (GMT)
Must share

When Ellliott was leaving the activity area/the mall, he was surrounded by a LOT of guards. 10+. Security guards and body guards! It was like a huge mob moving towards the exit. We were all surprised with happened so none of us was able to document it, but WOW. What a sight.

elizajv - September 21, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
Ok, here's one thing I remember: Someone told me and Yam that Elliott was shopping in a leading RTW store, Bench, which is also a sponsor of the concert. I ran there in my three-inch heeled shoes and took some photos of him checking out clothes. It might take a while before I can upload those since I only borrowed the digicam from a friend.

Elliott does appeal to people of all ages. I remember this elderly woman who waited to buy her cd so she could get a special pass so her CD will be signed. Her husband later joined her in the line, only to find out that she would not be able to get a copy because she is #54 and Odyssey, a retail store selling Elliott's CD, only limited the privilege to 50 people.

Oh, and the I heart EY by Yaminoys piqued the interest and envy of a lot of people in the area. Someone asked Beck, Chistian and me what EY mean and we said Elliott Yamin and he was laughing at himself because it seemed so obvious. Anyway, later Beck and me had a photo taken with Ben Chan who is the owner of Bench and asked us if we really are fans of Elliott because of our shirts. Of course we said yes. Then before that there was this woman who was had this look like she was hoping she had the same shirt as we do. Then when Christian and I were about to ride MRT, there was this girl who asked us how she could get a shirt and I told her she needs to be a registered Yaminoy since the shirt says so.

I have photos of the long lines during the early hours at the mall, the presscon, when he did the sound check, and video of how crazy it was as Elliott was leaving the mall. But as I have said uploading them will take some time.

ETA: Did someone mention here that Elliott videotaped the audience for a while and we hoped he caught us with the Yaminoys banner.

e5l11 - September 21, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
I will be at Glorietta tomorrow! Ok, I don't know where, North Park or Park Square? North Park or Park Square?

I just got my Elliott Yamin CD today at the Mall Of Asia. After 6 months of waiting for it..

I'm so excited for tomorrow. Meet you all there soon! :woohoo:

Thanks to all for these wonderful recaps, pics, etc. Keep them coming, please.

But I felt a twinge of sadness about Elliott and his band being hurried out surrounded by security. Even though it was probably necessary, Elliott is such a people person, I know he would have preferred to be able to mingle more with his fans. Still, sounds like a great time was had by all.

True, but here in the Philippines security guys tend to be paranoid, so they make it a point to really protect the artist.

Yes, I agree. It was an overkill though I would have to say Elliott needed to have escorts at that time or else he might get out of the building easily.

Oh yes, it was a pandemonium from the first to the last note. The other songs the elicited the loudest applause were A Song For You and Moody's Mood.
