I must say, I really like this show. Did you know that Eve Myles, who plays Gwen Cooper, was also the maid Gwyneth in "The Unquiet Dead" espisode of Doctor Who? That was one of the first episodes with Christopher Eccelston, when they met Charles Dickens and Gwyneth was the maid with the "second sight." I read that Russell T. Davies wrote that part just for her.

You know, I wasn't sure what the origin of that hand that Jack keeps in the liquid container was, but now after seeing this last Doctor Who episode, it now makes sense.

I'll post more thoughts later; I'm still too jazzed about the Doctor Who episode!

I am really enjoying this show. I've actually seen all the episodes online through youtube, but it's great to be able to sit down and watch an episode in one piece on the bigger screen.

Jack has changed a bit from his days traveling with the Doctor. He's much more serious here, but sill a very likeable character. While Gwen is okay (I love Eve Miles - adored her as Gwyneth), I think the show focuses too much on her character. She's a little too whiney for me. I've become a big fan of Burn Gorman, who plays Owen. Now there's a character to love - or love to hate. He snarky, sarcastic, and full of himself, but I just love his cheekiness and his comebacks. The actor really shined in the most recent episode, Ghost Machine.

I know that the hand in the "jar" is the Doctor's, but it sure is a mystery how Jack was able to retrieve it, or even know that it had been cut off. Maybe it will all be explained next season.

The character of Toshiko Sato also appeared in the first season of "New Who" (Aliens of London) as a hospital pathologist. She met the Doctor when he came to see the dead giant pig. She has a different job at Torchwood - she's the computer expert - and even though they don't mention her background as a physician, and she doesn't insist on being introduced as "doctor" like Owen does, you'll see her occasionally performing a scientific procedure.

I enjoyed last Saturday's episode. I love that Gwen and Owen had their "snog" in that compartment, and their reactions to it afterwards.

I also liked how Gwen commented to Jack, at the end, that she was not sure if he was going to keep coming back to life from all those attacks from the Cyberwoman, and he said, "Neither did I." And then he said that in that moment, he had never felt so alive.
