Title: Elliott In Manila - Sept. 23, 2007
Description: Manila Day 3 ~ Market Market

TxRangerette - September 23, 2007 01:52 AM (GMT)
I'm going to start off this thread by reporting:

xnt4e, Eliza, Yulia, wandergirl, belle, and Angelo are already in line for the ticket stubs!! xnt4e said that there's about 60 people or more in line as early as 9ish am!! They will be reporting and giving recaps later, of course!

TxRangerette - September 23, 2007 04:20 AM (GMT)
Update:

They all got their ticket stubs!! xtn4e is going to rest to recharge for tonight's concert!! Yulia is going to venture onto some Philippine shopping!! She also gave Elliott a wayang (Indonesian traditional puppet).

Linda4Elliott - September 23, 2007 04:25 AM (GMT)
YAY! More excitement to come! I'm going to bed now, and when I get up, there will be lots of wonderful Elliott stories, pictures and videos. Everyone have the time of your lives! You have given the most wonderful, vivid, articulate recaps ever, and we love every word. It has been so exciting the last couple of days.

AngELL - September 23, 2007 04:30 AM (GMT)
This is quite a trip in every sense of the word! I hope Elliott won't feel it's anticlimactic to come home after all the excitement generated for this very special tour! Can't wait for more news, more pics, more videos!

imogen_ph - September 23, 2007 05:15 AM (GMT)
Good for them, yay! I wonder what the setlist will be tonight?

elizajv - September 23, 2007 05:50 AM (GMT)
Hey guys,

I'm here at Trinoma, waiting for my friends to pick me.

Anyway, I was waiting at Glorietta entrance for Christian and Yulia when I saw this man taking down Elliott's tarp. It was torn on top but I didn't care and asked the man if I could have it -- since I wasn't there last night, I thought this would make up for it -- and he said he'd give me a better tarp. He asked if I'm really a fan of Elliott's and I said, yes of course and I'm going to see him again tonight.

Christian, Yulia and I got there but there was a line and we failed to get a meet-and-greet pass. But we were able to get on the list of Odyssey for the CD signing. Anyway, there were still a lot of tickets left when we got our CD, which was an hour late. Only about half have been given out and it was already noon. I was thinking that this maybe due to the location of the venue, which is not that accessible to public transportation, unlike Glorietta and Trinoma, both of which can be reached via MRT.

chelley - September 23, 2007 05:58 AM (GMT)
I've been keeping up with all the PI recaps. So exciting! I'm so happy that Elliott is happy in the Philippines...

So, did he give the tarp to you?? Where is Market2 ba? I hope people will still show up, though...for what its worth, you and the rest will get more quality time with Elliott later, lol!

Oh yes he did. I have it with me. I was wondering if I could have it signed by Elliott.

Market Market is in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig. The easiest way to get there is via taxi, your personal vehicle or a jeep from Guadalupe market near MRT.

TxRangerette - September 23, 2007 06:18 AM (GMT)
You should definitely have it signed!! Is it heavy to lug around, though? So, this is not the Fort Bonifacio near Forbes Park then?

It is definitely very near Makati though I'm not sure if it's near Forbes Park.

No, it isn't heavy but quite large. Christian said it would be better if he signed it with a ballpen rather than a marker because the ink might fade with the latter. Anyway, just in case, I'll bring a ballpen and ask him to sign it.

wandergirl - September 23, 2007 01:43 PM (GMT)
Wow am I the first one to go home this time? Ha ha. I think everyone else had dinner, but I had to eat and leave with my family (my younger bro has school tomorrow).

blessed - September 23, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
so how was it? share share! :D

wahhh. i so wanted to go if not for my school duties. :(

imogen_ph - September 23, 2007 02:02 PM (GMT)
What was the setlist, wandergirl? Did he sing something different?

wandergirl - September 23, 2007 02:16 PM (GMT)
Last two songs were WFY and ASFY then encore, One Word

xtn4e - September 23, 2007 02:19 PM (GMT)
hey folks, i'm here but i need to check on a couple of important emails first so let me work on the recap today in a bit...

xtn4e - September 23, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
okay here's my recap.

it would be impossible to top last night really, because it was phenomenal on just so many levels! Also, unlike Glorietta, the Market! Market! crowd wasn't really Elliott's target audience. We were kind of anticipating a lot of people to watch only because it was a free mall show. I was thinking that maybe it would still be a good idea because then Elliott could reach out to a wider demographic in the Philippines but the Yaminoys were already talking about the fact that this night wouldn't be similar to last night in terms of crowd reaction.

The logistics were also different in that each ticket stub had a seat number. i got 53 so i was a bit concerned that we would end up somewhere in the middle. but as it turns out, i managed to sit next to the aisle, two rows behind wandergirl, belle, and yamignonette (we managed to get a ticket for her, as well as for a few other Yaminoys who weren't able to fall in line in the morning). Eliza, yulia, and angelo, ended up on the other side of the floor area - it was a weird setup really because the VIP area (Ayala mall special guests and VIP passes) was right smack between us so I wasn't sitting with anyone else LOL but that was fine. I got an aisle seat and that meant I could setup my tripod and take videos.

Show started at 6pm to cheers from the crowd (as we expected, it wasn't as boisterous as the previous night). This time he opened up with 'Find a way'. Elliott's voice was strong and clear and it was very interesting to be seeing Elliott performing for the third night in a row! the crappy thing though was that lots of people started coming when Elliott started singing and they started passing in front of my camera while I was taking a video. Then when they sat down, it turns out that they are blocking my camera's view of the stage. Wandergirl forces me to pull my chair up right next to her (chairs weren't fixed to the ground) so I did that and I ended up getting front row seats as well.

xtn4e - September 23, 2007 03:43 PM (GMT)
He then starts talking about the next song being about a bad relationship. This being our third show, we knew that it was 'Train Wreck' - then again, we knew that even during his first show LOL but it was such a wonderful feeling that this started feeling very familiar (in a good way). A few months ago, I wasn't even sure if I'd ever get to see Elliott perform live. And now, I've seen three of his shows. Who would've thought?

'Movin' on' is his next song of the night. Once again he starts out clapping to the beat and so does the audience. Considering that the audience tonight wasn't as responsive as the night before, his energy level was still amazing. And his vocals were still strong and vibrant, considering this was his third night in a row singing fairly difficult songs to sing. Naturally, the Yaminoys and other Elliott fans in the crowd were still cheering him on.

there was another difference in logistics of the venue - the lights didn't dim and there was no 'real' spotlight so Elliott could actually see the crowd. He actually pointed at our general direction - we thought he recognized us, but when I looked over to yamignonette, i saw the girl sitting next to her holding up a sign that said "Elliott You're Amazing" so he must've been ackowledging her LOL. But I think at some point he saw us and seemed to recognize that we were his loyal Yaminoy fans because he had this look that seemed to indicate that we looked familiar (or that at least our shirts did :) ) and he kinda nodded.

His next song is 'Free'. Now, before he started his first show, I just liked this song. But after hearing him sing this live, I must say I love it now. Or at least the live version. I was driving back home after the show and I listened to 'Free' on my CD, and I have to say I was kinda waiting for the heavy guitar strumming during the bridge. That is my official favorite part of this song, and it's great that I have a whole new appreciation for this song.

At the end of it, someone shouted out 'We love you'. There were a lot of 'We love you's' tonight actually, mostly from these two women in the middle who were immense fans of him as well. At one point, Elliott actually says "I love you too" and it drives those women wild! LOL

wandergirl - September 23, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
^ I think those women were the two teens who were so emotional! I am happy they got to meet Elliott. I think the first girl almost fainted when I told her I was giving her a CD signing stub.

blessed - September 23, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
^ LOL. XD that was so nice of you to do that. you just made her night. :D

xtn4e - September 23, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
Next on his playlist that night is 'I'm the man'. I am just looking at the video I took of this and Aaron the percussionist is singing along with Elliott (or at least in some parts). Actually, he does sing along with Elliott for the most part tonight (I hadn't noticed if he normally does that or if it was just tonight). The best part of this song is when Elliott points to his cheek while singing "I'm the man to kiss goodnight" and it gets the crowd going a bit. That was the first time he had done that in all three nights and it was quite cool to see - clearly the ladies loved it LOL

The next song he sings is "In love with you forever" and he asks the audience to clap along with him which we do (or at least the hard core fans in the crowd do LOL). I could actually hear the crowd singing along with the chorus (or at least the first half of it that just goes 'I'm in love with you forever... til I die'). Considering that this song is not part of his CD and that he never really released it, it was great to hear some members of the audience singing along with Elliott. What's more, Elliott does another thing during this song that he hasn't done yet. Towards the end of the song, Aaron hands Elliott his tambourine and he starts performing with it. I love how the show has now gotten familiar and yet there is still always something new to look forward to.

Elliott then briefly steps out of the stage before coming back to say, along with 'I love you sweetheart so someone in the audience' that we are all familiar with his next song and that we should sing along with him and that he really needs the help of the audience with this song. I guess he was trying to get the audience going a bit more (not counting the hard core fans of course because we didn't need any goading LOL). Obviously since this song did make #1 in the country, lots of people knew this and they started singing along with him for a lot of the song. Not like last night of course, but again, you can't beat Glorietta. I am listening to my video now and I can hear my extremely hoarse voice singing badly along with the song LOL He actually spiels after this song and says "I understand you made this #1 in your country" and we cheer loudly of course.

xtn4e - September 23, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
At this point, both Russell the guitarist and Aaron step off the stage, leaving Elliott and Joonie the keyboardist. I tell wandergirl, "What?! no One Word?" then wandergirl says that it would most likely have it as his encore, so no need for me to worry :) Anyways, as usual, this is truly his coup de grace. It still astounds me how well his vocals fit this song. His unbelievably amazing vocal run from the intrumental leading into "I love you in a place..." was the best that I've ever heard him do it, and it didn't fail to get people screaming. (I barely have any voice left now and I'm glad I have 5 days before I get to cheer for Elliott again in Alabang Town Center.)

He steps off the stage, and the few hard core fans keep screaming for an encore. I got a bit worried that he wouldn't come back out due to the lackluster reaction from most of the crowd, but my worry disappeared when the entire band came out. "Yes, he'll be singing One Word" I thought. And true enough, he does. He says "if you know it, please sing along with me" and I actually hear wandergirl saying "sure" in my video and me breaking out into laughter. Does he really need to ask us? LOL Since the lighting tonight was such that Elliott could see the crowd, the Yaminoys made sure to do the arm raise / #1 sign during each chorus and some of the crowd did sing with Elliott which was great! Man, i really love this song and I'm glad it's the next single. I want it to start playing in Manila soon so i can work on getting it to #1 again :)

wandergirl - September 23, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
^ Ha haha ohmy I hope not all my comments and singing attempts were recorded on [your] video! I have no talent in singing!

xtn4e - September 23, 2007 04:35 PM (GMT)
So now for the meet and greet. Eliza and Angelo managed to get CDs for signing and as wandergirl mentions above, she was supposed to have hers signed as well but she very nicely gave it to those two girls who were crying because they couldn't get a M&G pass. For the photo opportunity, it was yamignonette, eliza, yulia, and myself (and monet actually said we could pull in one more person and mike was standing there so he was quite fortunate to be in the right place at the right time).

If you recall from yesterday, I ended up not being able to say anything to Elliott during my CD signing even though I practiced the line "Thank you for coming to the Philippines" in my head several times. Well today I was practicing the line "It's my birthday tomorrow and I couldn't have gotten a better birthday gift than you coming here" but when i finally got to Elliott, I kinda panicked and said "Thanks for coming to the Philippines" - the line I practiced the day before LOL He says "Thanks for having me and shakes my hand". I can't recall now if we did the male buddy hug - arms over each other's shoulder, wandergirl, please send me the pic you took so I remember what happened LOL or post it here - but I did manage what I think was a good smile and I had my photo taken with Elliott. Then I headed out. After that i was like "Damn, I didn't get him to say happy birthday to me LOL but it doesn't matter. Him being here is great enough as it is :)

Before the night ended, the Yaminoys prepared some gifts as well for the band - Russell, Joonie, and Aaron, as well as Monet. I actually ended up composing the notes for each of them - we were initially planning on writing the same thing for the band members but I realized that i didn't want them to be generic so I had to come up with different things to say for each one LOL but I thought they deserved as much. Wandergirl did the calligraphy though since my handwriting sucks :)

Unfortunately it seemed that the guys were going to leave! We went to the edge of the stage and asked the guards to call the band out. One of the organizers said she would ask Monet to step out. When she steps out, she tells us the band won't be coming out anymore, so we hand our gifts to her. She initially thought it was just for the band but when we said, this one is for you, she was quite pleased.

xtn4e - September 23, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
So that's it for tonight's recap. Not as good as last night for sure and the reception from the crowd could've done with a bit more screaming and cheering. I think Elliott and his team were a bit disappointed in the response which they got, which is understandable. But there are two more shows and hopefully Alabang Town Center (ATC), his last show, is closer to Glorietta than it is to Market! Market! And hopefully Elliott's appearance in this venue that isn't his target market will manage to snag him a few more fans or turn a couple of fairweather fans to hard core ones.

His next show will be in Cebu on thursday, and I won't be able to go that so hopefully someone from the Cebu show can do the recap for that. My next (and last! huhuhu) recap will be on Friday after the ATC show.

Better video quality this time, and the audio is still decent because we are still in front of the speakers smile.gif

I HAVE to share this story:

At the first mall show (TriNoma), I gave my CD signing stub to my friend because I was fortunate enough to be given a M&G pass. My friend was able to have it signed and Elliott even wrote her name. Yesterday, I bought another CD but the signing was so quick, Elliott barely had time to sign his name!

Earlier today we were able to secure slots for the autograph signing. Market, Market didn't seem to be 100% prepared for the event because an hour after the mall opened, the CD selling booth was nowhere to be found. Anyway, in the end we could get 4 CDs, but we only bought 2 (one for my friend's mom, and one for myself).

Belle was nice enough to get me ticket which came with a M&G stub. Before I joined the queue, Angelo was talking to two girls. One of them, I call GG (she wore a green top, so Green Girl) was nearly in tears because she wanted to go onstage and talk to Elliott. She had no M&G pass or signing stub. We sent her to the CD people to ask about the list, but no dice. After my M&G I went back and switched places with Angelo, and GG told her friend "Oh she's so lucky she met Elliott!" I was waiting for yamigonette and co. so I could take their photos during M&G. I knew that coming up next was the CD signing and the CD + Pass was just in my bag.

Before I could think twice, I grabbed the CD+Pass and made my way through the crowd to look for GG. My selfish evil twin tried to make an appearance because she kept told me "but you want signed CD with YOUR name on it." However, in my experience being a fan (of another artist), fans always help one another. My evil twin hid.

I told GG, "YOu can buy my CD if you want, you can have my pass." Her reaction was PRICELESS. I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or just walk away! Unfortunately, the policy was 1 stub per person, and GG didn't want to go without her friend. I think both of them were already crying, and GG was telling her friend "sorry, i'm so sorry!" I told them to just run and join the long line.

I waited for GG during the signing and was surprised to see her friend with her. They told me later on that they were both allowed to go onstage (I guess the lady collecting stubs felt bad that one of them couldn't go up, so they were both allowed in the end).

They got hugs, more hugs, and I think they were also crying onstage. They were not asked to leave right away because even Elliott was clearly amused. Imagine two crying teenage girls in front of you?

When their CDs were signed and they received good bye hugs from Elliott, both girls cried!

I met GG and friend after and they were both so grateful. I'm happy they had the chance to meet Elliott. :) Everyone should get a chance to meet him! Seeing how happy they were also made me grateful for the many Elliott fans I've met and been with since Friday. We've helped each other so much just so we have equal opportunities to see and meet Elliott.

Wandergirl - what you did for GG will be such a happy memory for you for the rest of your life. That was a wonderfuland selfless gesture.

Happy birthday, xtn! :D

Great recap! But did you really have to disabuse me of my belief that it was I Elliott pointed to when he sang "(I'm the man in love...) WITH YOU?" :rotfl:

Guys, thanks again for getting me (and company) the stubs. Great, great bunch of people the Yaminoys/etrainers are, indeed. :)

ETA: wandergirl, I didn't realize that was the full story on those two girls. Maybe you should rename yourself "wonderfulgirl..." ;-D
