Title: Was There Another Gracious Celebrity?
AvivaDove - September 27, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
When meeting fans, Elliott is so very gracious and grateful. I remember reading Rick's story about how disappointed he was when he met another celebrity, who was a hero to him.
Did you ever meet another celebrity who was as gracious and grateful as Elliott? In this day and age, many take their fans for granted.
Besides meeting Elliott, I was lucky enough to meet my hero, the late Ruth Handler. She co founded Mattel toys, invented the Barbie doll and did alot of charity work for the American Cancer Society and for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. She was just like Elliott. Her fans waited in long lines for hours. She made eye contact , signed countless Barbie dolls and autographs, listened to the fans and individually thanked us. When she was signing in Bloomingdales and the store closed. She stayed until well after midnight, greeting the fans and signing autographs. She passed away in 2002. I'll never forget meeting her 3 times.
I hope Elliott isn't the only celebrity out there who is so nice to the fans. I hope some of you have stories like this about other celebrities who have touched your life.

Well, he was not a musician, but Howard Cross was a tight end for the New York Giants from 1989 until 2001. Back in the late 80's, the Giants had their summer training camp a mile away from my house. Their practices were open to the public, so I used to take my 3 kids, and half the neighborhood to watch the sessions. My youngest son who was 7 at the time, used to study the daily rosters which were filled with info. He would make birthday cards for anyone who happened to be having one. Well Howard's b day was during training camp, so Jimmy made him a card. Howard who was a rookie that year, made a huge deal of it. And after that he always would pick Jimmy out of the crowd to say hi. The following year Howard saw Jimmy the first day back, and made such a big deal about him, telling everyone within earshot, that this was the kid who made him a birthday card last year. After that, they became fast friends. Howard took Jimmy and a few of his friends out to lunch, brought him to the dorms where they were staying, introduced him to all the Giants who were around, and once asked Jim to bring him a football, which he then got signed by all the Giants.
For a few years , Howard used to send Jimmy a birthday card, and autographed pix and things. When the Giants moved their training camp to Albany, they kind of lost touch, but none of us will ever forget that "gentle giant" Howard since retired from the game, and is now a football commentator at the YES network. Every time we see him on tv, we remember how wonderful he was to a 7-year old boy!

Cloe,
Thanks for your uplifting story! I think it's even rarer for a sports celebrity to be so kind to a fan. Today, many of the sports stars are about making alot of money, period. Many don't even care about the cities they're representing, let alone being nice to little boy.
There is one basketball player named Matumbo. He used to be on the 76'ers. I never met him, but I was deeply moved by him. He gave alot of money to build a childrens' hospital in his village in Africa. I thought,''There's a true sports hero.''

Philip Joel Urry, Peter Furler, and Jeff Frankenstein. Pretty much the most amazing and gracious men I've ever met. They are so humble and down-to-earth and really care so much about the lives of their fans (and Phans). Plus the first two guys are my heroes for life and I could go on and on about how awesome they are. If angels were here on earth, I wouldn't doubt that they were one of them ^_^
And come 10/13/07, I'm going to have to add Paul "Paulipops" Colman and Duncan "Squiz" Phillips to that list.

Elliottistrueblue,
I don't know those names. Who are they?

Members of the best band ever....The Newsboys. They are not "true celebrities" in the sense because they aren't really mainstream, but still amazing nonetheless.

Love Shine too (it's a blast live!). The music video is so weird but it's great! Awww, the first appearances of Jeff and Philip at the end, I love it :awe:
Although their best work is definately the Step Up To the Microphone album. Pretty much as close to a perfect album as you can get in my honest opinion, even though I'm definately biased :P

Thanks for the information. I've never heard of them. until now. The crowd went wild over them-and for a good reason. Wow! I'll remember them for their talent and for how you said that they are nice to the fans, like Elliott.
Thanks again for posting this!

Anytime! Philip, (the blonde guy) is actually a lot like Elliott. He loves talking with and meeting his fans, he's really modest, caring, and isn't afraid to cry in front of his audience, and he was the FWB (funky white boy) of the band. ;)
