Title: MLB Playoff Thread
Description: What Baseball Team R U Rooting For?
wee_moggie - October 2, 2007 11:52 PM (GMT)
Who do you want to win? Who do you want to lose? (cough cough Angels cough)
Since my beloved Giants were, well, not even in the same solar system as the playoffs this year, I think I am rooting for the Rockies right now. I am bummed I missed last night's game against the Padres, but I read some about it and I've been listening on the radio about the home run controversy. That would have been cool to see.
Anyway, post away, baseball fans!
Hey, I did capitalize "MLB" in the title, but it turned them into lower case.

I don't know anything about baseball. I just know the Phillies won the National League East. The last time we did that was in 1993. We were in the World Series that year and lost. We only won it once ever-1980.
It's very sad how every year our school kids get so excited about the Eagles and they loose. We haven't had a winning sports team since the 76ers in 1983. So ,GO PHILLIES!

NO BRAINER in my house
GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JackieB - October 3, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
I don't know too much about baseball either. I grew up walking distance (a long walk) away from Wrigley Field and enjoyed the whole spirit surrounding the Cubs, their field and their fans so that's the team I've stuck with as far as who I always cheer for.
wee_moggie - October 3, 2007 06:29 PM (GMT)
Three games today!
Diamondbacks vs. Cubs
Red Sox vs. Angels--GO RED SOX!
Phillies vs. Rockies--Actually, I'm kind of torn on this one
Indians vs. Yankees is tomorrow.
AvivaDove - October 3, 2007 06:41 PM (GMT)
How are the teams going to the World Series determined?

Go D-backs....because of Eric Byrnes
Go Red Sox....just old town tradition.....and the Angels are in Anaheim.
Go Phillies.....tough call to make here.
Go Cleveland....I was born in Ohio so this is a no brainer.

This first round is best of five--that will narrow it down to four teams--two from the National League and two from the American League.
The next round is best of seven, and that is for the Pennant. So you have a winner of the Pennant for the National League, and a Pennant winner for the American League.
The Pennant winners then play the World Series, which is best of seven.

Go Cubs! I hope they win. It has been MANY years.
wowhesgood - October 3, 2007 11:00 PM (GMT)
GO Rockies!!!! Gotta root for the home team and I hope their hot streak continues.
wee_moggie - October 4, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
Rockies beat the Phillies today.
The last I checked, the Red Sox were up 4-0 at the top of the fifth. I hope they win because that means the Angels LOSE!
mombell - October 4, 2007 11:24 AM (GMT)

I'm really torn on this match-up.
I just think that the Rockies are going to hit a wall after playing so much, without so much as a break. But I love how they were under the radar and just kept at it to take the Wild Card.
wee_moggie - October 4, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
The Rockies beat the Phillies again today, 10-5.
If they win tomorrow, they win this round of playoffs.

OMG!! Is this in Philly too?
All I gotta say is Brian Sabean better be paying very close attention, because the competition will continue to remain tough in the Western Division of the National League next year.

Yeah, the first two were in Philly, now they go to Colorado.
Yes, Brian Sabean better be taking notes and making some good decisions in this off-season, or I will be very angry at him!
elliottcrazy - October 5, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
I'm going to contribute & say "Go Sox" ...? :elliottcap:
wee_moggie - October 5, 2007 06:47 PM (GMT)
OK, here are the current standings in their respective series:
Indians 1, Yankees 0
Red Sox 1, Angels 0
Diamondbacks 2, Cubs 0
Rockies 2, Phillies 0
Highlight: The Indians SMOKED the Yankees yesterday 12-3. Sorry, Chloe!
Looking forward to the games today!
wee_moggie - October 8, 2007 08:15 PM (GMT)
Here's where things stand now:
The Red Sox swept the Angels (woohoo!) and have advanced to the American League Championship Series.
The Rockies swept the Phillies and have advanced to the National League Championship Series. They will play the Arizona Diamondbacks, which should be really interesting.
The Yankees beat the Indians last night, so it's Indians 2, Yankees 1 in their series.
wowhesgood - October 8, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
Go Rockies!! It is Rocktober after all. :)
bonanza17 - October 9, 2007 02:14 AM (GMT)
GO SOX!!!!
And it looks as though the Yanks are OUTTA HERE!!!! :cheerleader1:
wee_moggie - October 9, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
The Indians just swept the Yankees, so they are out!
There is talk that Joe Torre will not be around next season, due to lack of success.

Congrats to your Rockies. They are the Cinderella story of the play-offs!!
Carryviking - October 10, 2007 02:21 PM (GMT)
My Twins didn't make it this year, sigh, in the NL I was going for the Phillies or Cubs but they are out and I don't mind Arizona(sorry to the Rockies fan here, I don't mind them but prefer Arizona right now) so I"m going for the Diamondbacks and in the AL, mmm, don't mind Boston or Cleveland, don't care who wins that.
wee_moggie - October 11, 2007 11:05 PM (GMT)
Rockies and D-Backs at 5:30pm PST tonight!
wee_moggie - October 12, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
So, the Rockies take the first game!
Did anyone watch? There was a big controversial play, which went against the D-Backs, and since they were in Arizona, the fans weren't too happy with it, so they started throwing stuff onto the field. It got so bad that they called the players off the field and into the dugout, for their own safety.
I'm all for being an enthusiastic fan, but you really shouldn't throw anything onto the field. It's distracting and dangerous.

I missed that.
I did see Cleveland beat Boston last night. Geez, that was one long game. I doubt Gagne will be with the Bosox next year.
wee_moggie - October 15, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
So the Rockies and D-Backs game is starting. It's 41 degrees in Colorado, something like 34 with the wind chill facor, and it's drizzly, but the place is packed. They are so excited--the Rockies have never been this far before!
As I'm typing this, Matt Holliday just hit a homer for the Rockies! So it's 1-0, bottom of the first.
The Rockies are up 2-0 in the series.
I'm afraid that they won't be able to complete the game tonight; it's starting to really rain.
wee_moggie - October 16, 2007 09:38 PM (GMT)
The Rockies swept the D-Backs and won the Pennant! They go on to the World Series!
I'm rooting for them, regardless of who wins the Indians/Red Sox playoff. The Rockies are playing excellent, excellent, baseball.
IT'S ROCKTOBER, BABY!

I was rooting for the Indians last night but not real upset with a Boston win, this could go 7 games, Boston is capable of coming back. Hope tomorrow night's game will be good.

CLEVELAND ROCKS!CLEVELAND ROCKS!
Please please please!!!
wee_moggie - October 19, 2007 07:04 PM (GMT)
This really has the potential to go seven games, because both teams are playing well.
Today is a travel day, so no game tonight. Bummer.
So Joe Torre is no longer the manager of the Yankees! He rejected their one-year deal, because it was a pay cut, even though he still would have been the highest-paid manager in baseball.
wee_moggie - October 20, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Game Six tonight at 5pm PST in Boston!
wee_moggie - October 21, 2007 11:12 PM (GMT)
It's tied 3-3! Game 7 tonight!
wee_moggie - October 22, 2007 04:16 AM (GMT)
The Sox win the Pennant!
The Boston Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies in the World Series! Awesome!
The World Series begins Wednesday!

Indians fans, I'm so sorry about your team. :console: I'm from Pittsburgh, and I was rooting for Cleveland to win. Our baseball team has sucked for like 15 years, so I wanted Cleveland to be in the World Series. :( I even have a Cleveland Indians sweatshirt, from when my brother lived there.
Sorry to all the Cleveland fans. :console:
Anyway, go Rockies! I'm a fan of Woody Paige from Around the Horn, so I want his team to win now. :)
