Elliot Kicks off Fall Tour in Chicago (and we were there)
By Idolmama(Idolmama)
The show itself was short, only 12 songs, but it was packed with power, musicianship I honestly wasn't expecting, and a LOT of heart from Elliot Yamin. He opened the show with "Alright" from his self-titled CD, and it was on from there ...

Elliot Kicks off Fall Tour in Chicago (and we were there)
I should subtitle this post "What a difference ice cream makes"...Elliot didn't take the stage until two (quite fabulous) other bands had played.... after the first band, my husband realized it was going to be another hour (at least) before Elliot performed, so he offered to take the kids next door for ice cream, while I sat on my keister and sipped my beer....which I thought was a fabulous idea :))
I go to the ladies room 20 minutes after they leave, and only then do I hear my cell phone beeping to tell me I've missed a call. I check, and I've missed three, all from my husband, and all within a span of about 4 minutes....something is up. I'm thinking, major problem, accident, injury, vomit, something....so I call, only to hear that they just met Elliot, standing around outside the tour bus. Quite accidentally. And, he's really nice....stops to chat with them, all FIVE of them....poses for pictures (taken with a cell phone and too dark to post, since I had the real camera in my purse)...gives my daughter a hug, my other daughter a high-five, and encourages my son to keep taking drum lessons. Really spent time talking with them. Kids are amazed and grateful. I am, too! What a really cool encounter with a cool guy.
The show itself was short, only 12 songs, but it was packed with power, musicianship I honestly wasn't expecting, and a LOT of heart from Elliot Yamin. He opened the show with "Alright" from his self-titled CD, and it was on from there with all of our favorite tracks as well as a few treats interspersed. One treat was a cover of the 70's classic "Sharing the Night"...wow, what fun. The other treat was enjoying Jose "Sway" Penala (Season 5 Idol alum) providing background vocals and percussion, and looking like he was enjoying every minute!
I am absolutely convinced that Elliot is the true star from Season 5, and know that we've only seen the beginning of what he can do! And he's a nice guy to boot ;)
Now, if only I'd gone for that ice cream.....

OMG, he sang Sharing the Night... I was hoping he would do that when he had his recent tour here in the Philippines. I so love that song! But hey maybe next time he will.

I Love Sharing the Night Together. November 20th can't get here fast enough.
ucanhavmycake78 - October 6, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
it was an amazing concert.. amazing venue... amazing crowd. i saw him (and the whole band) outside the venue as well, before the show. we talked for a short bit... i was being awkward and nervous... told him my sister saw him in cebu... and he was like "mabuhay!... oh you say it differently in cebu right?!" i don't remember what i said next. it wasn't my most lucid moment. He apparently cut his hair alittle bit... he looks much better though.
while outside, i did get to witness this dad running across the street with 4 kids trailing behind him... he was screaming for elliott's name. i had just gotten my pictures taken with elliott. he was very nice indeed, that elliott... and it was truly special to witness how he interacted with those kids as well. too bad the mama from that blog wasn't there.
anyhoo, still outside, sway was talking to a couple of chick, one of whom looked like my professor in college. aaron was rubbing ollie's head. so oh so sweet. ollie looked cute with his granny glasses. russell was talking to a chick. the new drummer was walking in and out of the bus. junnie was nowhere in sight.
the show was short... with about a dozen songs and an encore...
alright (great song opener, imo)
find a way
take my breath away (elliott seemed to be out of breath here)
free (see comment above)
im the man
in love with you forever
trainwreck
sharing the night together (wonderful surprise, i love this dr. hook piece)
ghetto boy
wait for you (crowd favorite)
one word (with elliott holding/wearing someone's #1 foam hand thingy. brilliant!)
moving on (my favorite)
a song for you (im just glad he didn't "y'all" it)
elliott looked very pumped up and excited. he has truly transformed himself to an awesome performer. he was excited to jumpstart his tour in chi-town.
like a said, the crowd was amazing. i was surprised by the variety of audience that attended the show. and it's fun to just watch people around between bands. josh hoge was awesome... last goodnight was good as well. during elliott's turn, a couple members of the last goodnight sat next to our table. and josh and his guitarist was at the bar not too far from us cheering and singing along with elliott. during 'moving on' he was (pole) dancing with this chick and this dude. t'was funny. there were these two blind couple seated behind us as well, they have been drinking since josh's set until after elliott's. the guy was screaming and cheering elliott on. they were both complimenting elliott about his voice. and yeah, elliott did gave a shout out to the e-train... i saw and heard quite a few of us.
some miscellaneous stuff heard and seen during the concert:
- three frat guys. yes, frat guys. one wearing his cap fred durst style, was singing and dancing along with elliott. his friend was like "dude, elliott turned you gay"... the other guy was "no elliott turned him yo mama." lol.
- the guy selling E shirts and poster. some guy apporached him and asked if elliott was on american idol. the seller was like "yeah." the other guy asked if he won. the seller answered back, "he did." (in a way, he's right)
- angry grandmother... screaming at the lobby "where the hell is elliott.." she ranted on and on that she didn't pay to see two bands she doesn't know but elliott.
- friend, by the tour bus, screamed... "i want a solo pic of me with elliott." she went home still embarrassed with that comment.
- blind black man to his blind white lady friend... "he (elliott) does sound black"
well, again, the show was amazing. as we were walking back to the car. russell walked along with us, with that chick he was chatting with earlier before the show... he looks cuter with his short hair. funny how elliott introduced him as antonio bangladerash. lol. it was indeed a wonderful night for an evening with elliott.

He's added a shirt, it's black with blue. Looks like his "sing like yamin it" shirts but doesn't have that saying on the O. All profits for this shirt and a pin that is also being sold go for diabetes healthcare for people in 13 differrent countries.
