Title: Next Great American Band
Description: New show on Fox

There is a new show on Fox called The Next Great American Band. It premiered last night. I didn't get to watch it but I read about it in some entertainment news blogs. It's all different kinds of bands competing for a record contract. These guys in this video are in Carrie's touring band!

saw the whole show and i believe the clark brothers should be one of the front runners...they were outstanding, so talented....if you saw the one show that david foster had with the bands,(i don't know whatever happened to this show, but it disappeared) there was a band that had an armless guy that played guitar with his feet and was a lead singer...they did good on foster's show but they didn't perform on this show as well...too bad, they were pretty good...the band was called BIG TOE....there are alot of good bands on this show...very diverse

Oh yeah, I remember that show with David Foster, and now I know which band you're talking about. :o) I was thinking about watching this. Was it any good? It looks like it might be a fun show.

:discuss: Hello everyone. I was not sure anyone was watching this show but I have from the very beginning and actually do re-caps on several sites for it. One of the sites is Yamin-it.com. If you get a chance go to that site and read my re-caps. I welcome all comments.

I love these music shows and think The Clark Brothers are one of the best of the remaining 8. Those guys are amazing! I did see Big Toe during the audition process. Loved that guy's attitude being so positive in spite of his handicap.

One of the bands that was eliminated first of the top 12 actually were signed to a contract. The band is called The Likes of You. I just love their original "When I Fall From Grace". They are currently working on a new cd and you can listen to some of it at www.GeoffByrd.com.

Take care, everyone!

I guess I'm the only one who has fallen in love with anybody on Next Great American Band, but The Clark Brothers have taken their place for me right up near Elliott -- completley different (dobro? country gospel?) but exactly the same (great musicians, flexible musicians, with astonishing performance intensity and emotional depth in their music.)

Anyway, here's a horror story of a record deal that apparently happened to them and three of their brothers back in the early 2000s. They signed with Curb and ended up bankrupt and without their musical identity, apparently.

Scary.

I hope they can go on to something way better than this now, but their rootsy folkiness is still going to be perceived as hard to market, I expect, even though they can rootsy-folk the heck out of songs by Dylan, the Stones, and Rod Stewart among others.

Here's a link to a story copied from the Tennessean:

And for those who haven't heard them but could stand a little rootsy folking with a contemporary flair, here's the link to rickey's videos from the show:

I stuck by my hometown boys on the show...Tres Bien! I know Mikey B, Cody, Ryan, and Mike C, they all went to my high school, and they are freakin' awesome. Represent Clearwater, FL! :rocker:

I enjoyed Tres Bien too. There were a lot of really worthy, fun groups on that show.

It's daunting to think of all these fine musicians who really struggle in their lives because mass media has room for only so many stars and leaves a lot of other people just scrambling to make a living, even when they have just as much or even more talent. Very tough business. I hope this show improves the situation for all of these gorups.

Applesauce,

Don't their earlier interactions/contract with Curb just send a chill up your spine? Going into 800k in debt while on a major label. That's incredibly scary.

Totally.

And to tell the truth, it doesn't make me too happy to look at the Clarks' MySpace page and see their current record label listed as .... 19 Entertainment. Please don't let it happen to these talented guys again.

That Curb story curls my hair with fear for all struggling musicians, especially the ones who are excellent and authentic and are so likely to get done over like this. Makes me so relieved that Elliott had the connections to get into his situation, a route where he isn't subject to this kind of horror.
