Title: New Elliott Duet?
Description: recorded for Randy Jackson's CD (Feb 08)
asong4u - October 26, 2007 03:54 AM (GMT)
I was flipping through the channels tonight (10-25) and caught Randy jackson on Tyra Banks' show discussing his new album. We already knew that Elliott was going to be on the album. Randy said it will be released in February and that Elliott had recorded a duet with KATHARINE MCPHEE for this project.
This was the first I had heard of this. Did I miss the boat somewhere?

Hi- there was a thread on this the other day when the Tyra Show first aired (tonights was a re-run). Took me by surprise too. I thought it was an Elliott solo written by Ne-yo. We'll have to wait till February.

If anyone could do it E can :elliottcap:
In all my day-dreaming of Elliott's first collaboration...she was never in the thought-bubble.
:puke:
I was really excited about Randy's CD when I thought it was Ne-yo's song that Elliott would be singing (solo). Now, not so much.
Sorry to any Kat fans on this board. I dislike her personality and she's not in the same vocal league as Elliott. What was Randy thinking?, this is his baby not a 19E production. What was Elliott thinking? I know Elliott is grateful to AI and would never diss them but by doing this duet with another AI alum he shortened the distance he has moved away from the machine. I think the general public will view this as an AI alum duet that Randy afforded the singers vs Elliott deserving to be on it due to his talent and success.
I'm in the :fryingpan: now

Boy, just can't imagine it. Not because Kat doesn't have a nice voice. But she is just not the smooth, silky, honey poured sound of Elliott.
They must be trying to do a Mariah/Luther thing(endless love). Not that Kat can sing anything like Mariah.. or Elliott much like Luther. But in that duet Mariah's higher voice is paired with the smooth silkly and sexy Luther. I would prefer to just hear Elliott. But ya know, it may just turn out to be a really nice ballad.
( I can't imagine it being anything but a ballad for some reason).

You know, if I hear E paired with any Idol alum I want it to be either...
Melinda Doolittle
or
Paris Bennett

Can't imagine Elliott singing with Kat Mc-Who-phee!

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one that had a "WTF?" moment when I read that Elliott was doing a duet with McPhee. Of all people Randy could've chosen, they get her??? I'm still shaking my head. But anyways, I will be glad to hear Elliott's voice.

You pretty much summed up my thoughts here, hip-yamized. I can't for the life of me, see how a duet with the katster is a net plus for Elliott. I'm not even sure that any chance for a recording is worth it. I can certainly understand why Kat would want this but it sure looks to me like she's got her sights outside the music industry. I know there's plenty of time in Elliott's future for great collaborations, but you'd hope the first one out of the gate would be something really juicy. Well...We're just going to have to wait and see and hope this is a refreshing surprise.
idoletc - November 4, 2007 10:28 AM (GMT)
I once heard Elliott say that he would sing with everybody and anybody. I guess he meant it, :headsmack:
elliottcrazy - November 4, 2007 01:38 PM (GMT)
I dunno..I think we may be pleasantly suprised by this collaboration. I'm no Kat fan..dislike her personality (I think she's more of an aspiring actress, which is why I resented the fact that she got into the top 2 on AI) BUT she sounds quite nice when she sings in a lower register. It could work...I trust Randy on this.
The only negative is the AI 'connection' but again, it doesn't bother Elliott so I guess it shouldn't bother me.
jamie50 - November 4, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
I'm looking forward to hearing this. It has potential. I think the AI connection is a positive. The days when radio wouldn't play AI people is over and past idols are dominating the Top 40 charts. At one time it was only Kelly Clarkson but now Carrie, Daughtry, Jordin and some guy called Elliott Yamin are getting the big radio play. Plus maybe we can see E back on AI again or they'll refer to him.
The show only talks about past idols when they succeed. If you don't, you become an orphan.

I also had a WTF? moment. However, I didn't shake my head. I banged it against the wall.
SoulMusicRocks - November 4, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
I'm looking forward to it. When Katharine is not belting in her upper register, her voice is quite beautiful. Maybe they will do a jazzy blues number of some sort? It would be very good. Also, I think their is some good symbolism to take away from this. I hear of Kat/Elliott fans still hating eachother as well as Kat or Elliott themselves. Well.....maybe this is their own little metaphor for...let go of the past (AI) and move on with the future. JMO :)

I'm sorry , I can't help it... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Well, I guess it's ok for her to ride on E's coattails, just as long as she doesn't try to get him to ride on hers( or lack thereof). No soft core mags , Elliott, not necessary :rotfl:

:hello2: This is my first posting on this site since I am new but had to comment on this subject. I totally agree that Kat is not even in the same league as Elliott who I think is an exceptional singer. However, Randy has played with some of the best and hopefully he will make this duet work.
I actually was unaware that Randy was going to put out a cd as I do not watch the Tyra show and on the other sites must have missed this info so do thank you for giving us the heads up on it.
I would have preferred to see Elliott do a duet with Taylor Hicks or Ace Young as I remember on the tour how great he sounded with each of these two guys.
Anyhoo, glad to be on-board the :etrain: and hope to be chatting more with all of you.

Darn. I saw the title of this thread and thought it would be about Elliott's duet with Josh that was mentioned at the last couple of concerts. THAT duet should be terrific!
Kat? Wouldn't surprise me if Chloe was right... E's success just might give Kat a little boost. A ballad might be nice - as long as she doesn't try to shriek or try to do any runs in an attempt to match E's styling. It just doesn't work for her in the same way.
Like TrueBlue, out of alums, I would have preferred to hear him with Melinda, I think that would have been a pretty amazing collaboration. I also loved his duet with Chris on the tour so that would have been good too. Prior to having seen the show, I wouldn't have expected to enjoy that particular combination so much, so hopefully the Elliott/Kat combo will be a pleasant surprise.
Randy seems to have pretty good instincts though, so I imagine there's some reason why he paired Elliott and Kat.
OT: I wonder when Kat's wedding is planned? Read in People about the official engagement...

I was surprised by the prospect of a duet between Elliott and Kat. I would prefer to hear something from Elliott alone, or if it is a duet, someone other than Kat.
I think she sings beautifully in a lower, softer voice, but a Kat and E duet seems strange.
But like others have said, Randy knows what he's doing. We may be pleasantly surprised.

Kat's voice always reminded me of a piece of art glass -- down towards the base, where it's thicker, it's really quite beautiful, with textures and shadings and subtle nuances. Up near the top, it gets thinner, less interesting, and can be very brittle -- prone to cracking.
I'm hoping Randy utilized the good parts of the glass!!

Didn't Elliott mention that he was singing a song that was written for him by Ne-Yo? Would this be the duet?

yes, he did mention in a previous interview that the song he recorded for Randy's album was written by Ne-Yo. At that time he didn't mention that it was a duet.

Speaking of duets...he'll also have one on Josh Hoge's CD when it comes out in the spring. Josh is Elliotts opening act on his current concert tour! Exceptional young man, with a really great voice and personality to match! He mentioned this at the Harrisburg, PA concert this past week.
chloewannabee - November 13, 2007 01:42 PM (GMT)
I asked E last night about the duet
It's called Real Love...It's an original new song(not his)
And here's the other part of it. Kat and Elliott were NOT in the studio together. She recorded her part, then Elliott recorded his part at another time
Thank you God!
terriberriez - November 13, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
^^^ LOL I know it's probably wrong of me (who cares though??) but that info just makes me smile. Is it wrong of me if I don't want Elliott to be associated with the likes of Miss McPhee? :)
terriberriez - November 13, 2007 09:08 PM (GMT)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=WOCFeakVEDUThat is the song courtesy of the rabid research from the Phans on IDF. Is it me, or are they a little too excited about this duet, a lot more excited than I am. The song sounds good though. At least I know I will enjoy Elliott's part.
