USA Today's Ken Barnes (he of Idol Chatter) got to listen to BLAKE'S SINGLE which is being released to radio tomorrow apparently...it's titled Break Another and was written by Ryan Tedder and Sam Watters. Josh Hoge was going to perform it initially but when B heard it and really liked it, Josh let him use it for ADD. (thx josh!)

I wasn't sure what I would think of Blake's released music. On Idol I thought he had a mediocre voice; I liked the tone of his voice generally, but hated his falsetto. I thought he made fairly bold choices with his songs, but his interpretations were almost always exactly like the original (311, Robin Thicke, Jamiroquai). So, I wasn't sure what I would think, but I listened with an open mind.

I really liked this song. Assuming there is more bass in the not-over-my-computer version, of course. It is most definitely in the vein of Robin Thicke and Timberlake; synthesized/electronica, great beat, with synthesized violins and background vocals adding some layers. Quality-wise, I think it is on a similar plane with these two; it is really well produced. I didn't find Blake's beat-boxing even slightly annoying, though it was present to some degree. I must admit, I much preferred the verses to the chorus, mainly because I like his voice better on these. I can see adding this song (and potentially the CD) to my ipod, even if I only listen to them when I'm working out; it may fall under my list of guilty pleasures (Thicke is there too, my husband makes fun of me for it--though he concedes that he's talented.)

And Blake's voice may not be stellar, but he can definitely sing the pants off Robin Thicke live.

ETA: another Blake song I just found "Know My Name":http://hypem.com/track/410863

ETA, later: Yep, digging this one too.

Berkana - October 30, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
I'm actually preferring this way over Jordin's "Tattoo".

terriberriez - October 30, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
Where do I listen?

ElliottisTrueBlue - October 30, 2007 07:43 PM (GMT)
Pretty good...much better than Jordin's first single!

Go to the "saynow" site listed at the top of the thread, then play the message to his fans on the right hand side. He introduces the song, then it plays. The "hypem.com" link in my post, is for a second song from the CD.

On Wikipedia (and people keep telling me), it says that Josh Hoge co wrote this song... anyone know if it's true?

luvthatelliott - October 30, 2007 10:15 PM (GMT)
Well I really like it - I can't believe I do but I do.

Josh had posted a while back that he had sent Blake 2 songs and was hoping they would make it on the record.

ooh so maybe this was written by Josh! That would be cool if it was, cause I REALLY like it!

One of Josh's songs made it on Blake's cd and one didn't. The one that made it is Know your Name.

et4elliott - October 31, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the link....finally found a place to listen to it. I was looking forward to hearing what Blake would come up with but if this is his debut song, I don't think the CD will be good. I was expected more from him.

I listened to that one on Rickey.org. I really love this one.

et4elliott - October 31, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
Thanks. I didn't see a link or anywhere to listen to another song :dunno:

SoulMusicRocks - October 31, 2007 09:08 PM (GMT)
He seems like a nice person, but his musical style is not my cup of tea. Still wish him the best in the industry.

ElliottisTrueBlue - October 31, 2007 11:39 PM (GMT)
^^Yeah, agree there. I mean it's good. Not fantastic, but good. I just hate the song "Tattoo" so I think Blake's is better. I'm waiting for Melinda and Phil to put out the good stuff.
