Title: New Thoughts

concertcris - November 5, 2007 04:00 PM (GMT)
:discuss: Hello all. I'm new to this site so thought I would give all of my thoughts about several of the idols in one posting since we are in a new month.

Elliott is first up! I simply adore this guy and love both of the cds I have bought. He definitely shows how it is done with his self-titled cd and I bet old Clive Davis is kicking himself for not signing him as Elliott is doing so well without that group.

:woohoo: I am also a huge Taylor Hicks fan and currently a member of some of his sites. Along with E, Taylor is a true soul man and I have lots of his music and videos that I recorded.

Bo Bice - I do own both of his cds along with music and a video I bought from his church. I think I was not alone in the feeling that his first official full cd was disappointing. I do have to say however that his latest release is fantastic. Definitely shows the Bo we loved on the show. I love the songs with my top favorite being "Take The Country Outta Me". :goodjob:

Clay Aiken - I feel like this guy could sing anything and I would love it. I have bought all of his music and think he should have won that year. However, I am also a fan of Ruben so being they were the top 2 is alright with me. :1word: Outstanding!

I am not much into the country genre of music however do think that Bucky Covington, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Pickler have done great jobs with their cds. I however have only liked a couple of the songs from each of them so only downloaded the ones I like.

Sorry to the following fans but was greatly disappointed in the offerings from Chris Daughtry and Katharine McPhee. I personally chose not to buy their cds. Also I feel that both along with Carrie have been pretty much shoved down our throats and frankly am tired of hearing their music. Again, I apologize if I have upset any of the fans but just being honest.

I really liked Kelly Clarkson on the first 2 cds but this third one was a disappointment. I also do not care for the attitude of this girl so although I like some of her music I would not pay to see her solo in concert.

Lots of other idols I like and have bought their music but will not bore you any longer with my ramblings.

Did not mean to write a book here so will close by saying the music I am most looking forward to getting from Season 6 contestants are Melinda Doolittle, Lakisha Jones, Chris Sligh, Jordin Sparks (I really like Tattoo) and possibly Blake Lewis and Phil Stacey.

Thanks for reading this and being patient with me!

Welcome ot the Etrain concertcris!

Thank you for sharing. Since we're on the subject of the idols, I'll put in my 2 cents.

I started watching American Idol in Season 5. I enjoyed quite a few of the singers from the top 24, but Elliott was my favorite from the beginning. I listened to every performance of that season, and I knew he was the best. He touched my heart everytime he sang, and his voice was so compelling and unlike any other. Plus he was humble and loving to his family. I got behind him with so much passion, it was remarkable because I've never done that kind of thing before nor have I felt this way about a singer before. I voted and voted for him. Elliott is and will be my #1 always.

Carrie Underwood's Remember Me and Jesus Take The Wheel are nice songs, but I dislike a few of hers with a passion. Before He Cheats is one. I can't get into that one, it's not something I would want to listen to everyday. And, although I think she has a beautiful voice, she doesn't express the emotion of the song well enough for me.

Kellie Pickler was not the best singer of AI5, but I did enjoy watching her perform (most of the time! a few of the songs were terrible!) I haven't bought the album, but I still just might do that some day.

Clay has a very beautiful voice. I haven't been compelled to buy any of his CDs, though, but I do think he is a great singer. Another one I might purchase someday. Any recommendations??

Chris Daughtry is a little boring for me. Not sure why. He does have a nice voice though.

I would probably never buy anything of Kat McPhee's. Although she has a pretty voice in her lower register, I just can't get into her stuff. I don't see this changing but who knows?

Taylor Hicks is a great performer. It would be fun to hear him live. He loves what he's doing, and it shows. Go Taylor!! :)

I thought Gideon McKenny (sp?) had a nice voice and was a good performer. I think he was voted off too soon. I wonder if he will record some day??

And I can't forget Phil Stacey as he was my favorite from last years season. He has a beautiful voice and is a real sweetie. I am looking forward to hearing his music, hopefully in the near future.

I liked Jordin Spark's performances on the show, she has a beautiful voice. I can't wait to listen to samples from her CD. She seems so down to earth, it is refreshing. Finally a good role model!! I would rather my daughter listen to her than Hannah Montana. (sorry HM fans out there)

Thanks for listening. :) Gosh this is embarrasing. If cris wrote a book, I wrote the sequel lol.

:cheerleader1: Hey mel0207. You and I have alot in common being so long-winded. TeeHee.

;)

To answer some of your posting. I know how you feel about Elliott, I am like that with him and also Taylor. I am so hooked!

I am not sure what other genres of music you like but with Clay Aiken I would strongly suggest listening to both of his cds on-line which you can hear samplings on either the artist pages on VH1, MTV or go to any music store (Best Buy for example). Another great site to find out anything about any artist is called Allmusic.com. My top favorite songs by Clay are "The Way" on his first cd and on the second he does a cover duet with Suzie McNeil of Rockstar fame called "I Want To Know What Love Is". Great music.

I am really into the music as in my younger days used to be a dj in a nightclub so any music show interests me. My girls call me The Teenager because I am such a fanatic and listen to all genres and have been to so many concerts.

:music: is really a passion for me! Take care!

Thanks for the tips...I will go and have a listen to Clay, as I am curious as to what his CDs are like.

I like many genres of music - soul, R&B, jazz, some country, even classical lol. I don't buy a whole lot of CDs though.

You wrote that you really like Clay, so if you haven't already read it, there is a thread about him being in a musical. (?)

That is cool you used to be a dj. :kewl: (I love visual aids) You seem passionate about music, and you have great taste. Welcome again to the Etrain, glad to have you!

edit because I make goofy mistakes

Well, here's my opinion on all of them...

Elliott-Obviously I love him. My fave guy ever on the show, and I love his debut album, although I can't wait to hear what his music will sound like when he goes in a less pop-y direction! :etrain:

Kelly-My fave girl. I actually love her third album the best (I own all 3), it took guts to release it, and since I prefer singer/songwriters to people who never write their own music, she gets props. Plus, she's got major soul for a white chick :)

Clay-My fave guy before Elliott...love his voice, it's pretty much technically perfect. However, I found another man who has that same technical perfection and has more of an edge, yet actually comes off as less of a diva. Sorry Clay, I still love ya, but I kind of dumped you for Tony Vincent (guy in avatar). And come to think of it, Elliott! :rotfl:

Kellie-Although she's not the best singer, she's got a great personality and is a fantastic performer as well. Get this girl her own show!

Chris-*snore* Like we need another wannabe rocker (sorry Chris, but it's pretty cheesy)

Kat-:eww:. 'Nuff said

Phil Stacey-He and E are now my two fave Idol guys...love this man! Love his personality, and he's wicked talented as a songwriter and musician (dude plays like 6 different instruments, and I have his pre-Idol album , his original songs are beautiful). Plus he reminds me of one of my fave singers, Paul Colman, musically and definately personality-wise :rocker:

Bo-Loved him on Idol, hated what they did to him after the show. I just may be getting his new album though, I love Southern rock and it sounds 100% him!

Carrie-Very sweet girl, but as an artist she's overrated IMO. At least not to my taste :jmo:

Melinda-Love. Her. The best female ever on Idol, did she ever hit a bum note? I'll buy her album, because although I love E, judging by her performances she is THE most robbed contestant ever on Idol (E was still growing though, Mindy-Doo was pretty much a pro from the moment she walked on).

I'm just adding another random one because I love his debut...

RJ Helton!!! I love RJ, he's so underrated, and he was my fave guy Season 1. His debut is seriously good though, and I love it when he sings in Spanish on it B)

Jordin-Like Carrie, she's a sweet girl, but nothing original. I have a good friend who could really outsing her anyday.

You wrote volume 3, ElliottisTrueBlue lol Love this thread!

I got so excited when I read that Phil Stacey has a pre-idol album. This is news to me!! Where can I get it? Wow, he plays 6 different instruments?? He is majorly talented and a great guy to boot.

I liked Melinda too, and wish her the best. No, I don't think she ever did siing a bum note. Does anyone know when/if she will be putting out a CD?

ElliottisTrueBlue - November 5, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
I was veeeerrry lucky in finding Phil's album. It was on ebay.com and I bought it there, and I'm looking for another place to buy it but so far I don't know where. When I find it, I will tell you though :)

I signed up for email updates about Phil Stacey at:

Phil Stacey Website

Hi Elliottistrueblue. I enjoyed reading your post. I was also surprised to read that Phil Stacey had a prior cd to AI. I must look into that one and if you find any info I would be greatly interested.

:agreed: Kellie Pickler would be great with her own show. Although I am not big into country I thought she was adorable on the finale and quite funny during the actual show. I did like her song "Red High Heels" but the rest of the cd just wasn't my thing.

I really can not comment alot on Season 1 or 2 as I did not get hooked on idol until the finale of Season 2 when I first saw Clay and Ruben. I did however know about Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini as I watch VH1 alot. Bought both of their cds. Justin really got a raw deal out of that one.

I know very little about the rest of the contestants from those first 2 seasons although I did see Clay, Kimberley Locke and Ruben in concert (Wango Tango in California). As for the others I do read snippets about them on AI site and pretty much just know their names and have never really listened to any of their music.

Good chatting with you!

This part is for mel.

You seem to like alot of music that I like. Being a total music nut and once a dj I own over 500 cassettes (that was the thing in my day) and about 300 cds. My top favorite type of music is R&B but have alot of the other genres also.

About Phil Stacey, I read on one of the posts on Melinda while they were on tour that Melinda, Lakisha, Chris Sligh and Phil were in negiotations for contracts. I believe Phil is going into the country field. Thanks for the info about his website. I will be checking it out!

Until next time!

Oh and for Mel....

I'd actually recommend Clay's Christmas album. It's my fave of his :)

For concertcris...

500 tapes? 300 CDs? Wow! That's alot! I have about 200 CDs, but man, that is really impressive. (I owe that to the amazon.com used music market though, and the fact that I'm kind of a music nut)

concertcris - November 7, 2007 01:00 AM (GMT)
:iwish: Hey EITB (sorry to abbreviate your name). Sure wish I had gotten deals on all the music I own but actually bought most of them brand new. Throughout the decades I have gone through so many genres of music I really like.

I was just a kid when Elvis Presley became popular but to this day he is my all-time favorite artist and I own everything he ever sang plus most of his movies that had depth and some that didn't. I have been to Graceland and in one week's time went on the tour 7 times. Real nuts, right! But loved every second of that trip. I actually saw him in concert 3 times before his death.

I have mentioned that I do not care for country music but I mean the new country. I do not think any of them of today could top the greats like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty, Alabama, Tammy Wynette, etc. I am pleased to say I have seen all these people live plus alot of others.

I have seen over 100 artists live and still go to concerts like crazy. That is another reason I have so many cds, usually buy some there too.

Currently I am in the process of obtaining music from several artists that appeared on the Rockstar shows. Dilana and Magni have released several songs and I intend to get all of them. (Note: they were on Rockstar Supernova).

Anyway, I could chat all day about music so guess I better close here.

Take care!

ElliottisTrueBlue - November 7, 2007 01:24 AM (GMT)
Wow, what I would've done to see Elvis perform....too bad I was born 17 years after his death :bawl:. But yes, Elvis is the greatest...and still the king!! :rocker:

And I'm not much of a fan of new country much either. My mom and I love the older artists such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Randy Travis, etc. but most of the neo-country ones I just don't like!

idoletc - November 7, 2007 11:40 AM (GMT)
I agree, Elvis will always be "the king", but Elliott is definately "the prince".!!

ElliottisTrueBlue - November 8, 2007 12:29 AM (GMT)
And I know four men who will always be the "Angels", It works!
