Title: Short Person With A Large Hairy Wart
Description: My Experience

My Experience as a Short Person with a Large Hairy Wart

I am a short person and as I age I seem to be getting shorter (and a little rounder, but I won’t go there). Luckily I have a huge nose with a large hairy wart that distracts from my lack of height.

I have been to many different sized events; music concerts, live theater, opera, dance performances, carnivals, parades. I have walked on picket lines, voiced my opinion in protest rallies, (baked myself on nude beaches, luckily I have a large hairy wart that distracts from my roundness but as I said, I won’t go there). The list of things I have done may not be as long or adventurous as some, but as a short person with a hairy wart on my nose I’ve enjoyed every experience (some more than others, but I won’t critic them all here. But do caution you, if you are on the beach, wear sunscreen).

Before any event my expectation is that some tall willowy body will block my view, someone will voice himself or herself far to loudly, be over enthusiastic, try to out sing the singer, out drum the drummer, out speak the speaker, over push the pusher, heckle the comedian, or just ramble on, as I appear to be doing right now, so point made.

In every indoor venue there will be banisters, pillars, posts, walls, staircases, and I appreciate them all. At outdoor events there is always something that will block my view; a tree, a bush, police cars, fire trucks, men with nets and wearing white coats, the list goes on, and I deal with it all.

How do I deal with it all?

The loud and over enthusiastic person; I politely explain to them what impact their behaviour has on my enjoyment of the event. If the over enthusiastic becomes obnoxious and is an aggressive personality type, I let Security deal with them. It’s their job they are trained to deal with those types and they usually do it professionally with little commotion. It is amazing how many friends and strangers impacted by the behaviour of the obnoxious will politely back me up. (Perhaps it is my resemblance to a lawn gnome that makes them so protective of me).

Tall and willow people are so incredibly handy and helpful. On occasion I have asked a tall willowy person to reach for an item on the top shelf at grocery stores and they are always delighted to help me out. (Perhaps my sunburned nose and hairy wart gives them amusement). At any large event I am able to wedge myself close to the front, by politely asking the tall willowy if I can stand in front of them. (Rarely does anyone object, after all lawn gnomes can’t block their view).

I appreciate the architecture and support structures in the venues because they keep the building or tent from falling on my head. Although tall willowy people would feel the first impacts, I’m sure eventually the rubble would make it down to my level. These obstructions to my view can’t be reasoned with or removed, so I quietly find another spot. Any outdoor event in my opinion is enhanced by its surroundings. Although I have often been told I am mischievous, (somewhat of a prankster) I could never cut down a tree or pull out a bush because it was in my way, so I move around it. Besides, they provide a playground for the pixies and gnomes, and often produce nuts.

My experiences are that most people are reasonable and kind, and if I ask for assistance or direction they are happy to help me out. The obnoxious and thoughtless can be corrected, avoided, taken away, or made to disappear. If something is obstructing my view and it can’t be removed, then I walk around it, under it, or crawl over it. If it is beautiful I just look at it and enjoy.

What a great post! I like your writing style!

By the way, my husband is 6' 5", and he is always delighted to reach items on the top shelf in grocery stores for those who can't do it!
