LOS ANGELES - Chris Daughtry may not have won "American Idol," but his band, Daughtry, earned high enough honors at the American Music Awards on Sunday to share the spotlight with Carrie Underwood and Justin Timberlake.
Daughtry made good on its three nominations, winning favorite pop-rock album for "Daughtry," as well as breakthrough artist and adult contemporary artist.
"Wow. I can't believe we're in the category with Justin Timberlake and Linkin Park. It's pretty awesome," the band's frontman said. "I want to make sure we thank the fans again because you guys made this all possible for us."
Underwood, who did win "Idol," matched her three wins at the Country Music Association Awards this month with three trophies Sunday: favorite female country artist, favorite country album for "Some Hearts," and the T-Mobile text-in award.
"Thank you fans for going out and buying this album. You guys are amazing," she said. "This is one heck of a night."

From American Idol website...
American Idol had a huge presence at the star-studded American Music Awards last night. Both Chris Daughtry's band Daughtry and Carrie Underwood took home three of the prestigious statues!
Here are the categories in which they won:
Daughtry:
Favorite Album in the Pop or Rock category
Favorite Artist in the Adult Contemporary Music category
Favorite Breakthrough Artist
Carrie Underwood:
Favorite Female Artist in the Country category
Favorite Album in the Country category
T-Mobile Text-In Award
Both Carrie and Chris were up against some of the biggest names in the music industry, so it was quite a history-making evening.

I saw the list of winners of the AMAs. Fergie? Nickelback? High School Musical? Wooooowww. That list was lame with a capital "L". It definately needed more cowbell....or more Elliott Yamin :etrain:

 I might strike a nerve here but frankly I am sick of Carrie and Chris being shoved down our throats by the media, American Idol, awards shows, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I think Carrie is a wonderful talent and seems like a sweet girl. She deserves the awards but I am not big into country so maybe that is why I am tired of constantly hearing about her.
Chris Daughtry in my opinion is a total jerk in person and I thought his cd was terrible. I am stunned he has had the success he has. In fact I did watch the awards show but each time he won I muted the television and when he performed I turned the channel because I am totally sick of that song.
Another thing that bugs me about these award shows is the same people seemed to be nominated for each category. They definitely do not spread the wealth around.
What I did enjoy about the show was some of the performances. Liked seeing Maroon 5, Duran Duran (their new cd is great), Queen Latifah, Mary J. Bligh (she is so awesome on these shows and also in person), Lenny Kravitz (loved that song and will be getting it) and Rascal Flatts (one of the few country artists I like).
Hopefully in the future I would truly love to see Elliott, Taylor and Bo get the recognition they so deserve.
As an added note: Elliott's new video "One Word" is awesome!

Concertcris, I have one thing to say about your post...
Mmm....AMEN! :amen: (to the whole thing, I agree 100%)
Especially the Daughtry thing. I'll never see why that thing went triple-platinum, it's a rip off of just about the crappiest bands around (Nickelback, Creed, and Hinder anyone?) There is good post-grunge, but Daughtry is not in that category.

I watched the awards and was somewhat indifferent to the show. I liked Lenny, Celine, and Mary J., but the rest? Eh, it was ok.
Anyway, congrats to Carrie and Daughtry.
