Title: Webster Theatre, Hartford, Ct.
Reblecka - November 26, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
Hello folks! Since no one else from the Etrain seems to have been in Hartford I thought I'd overcome my shyness to post about it :-) I am here almost every day, checking in on what's going on with Elliott, but so far I've been too shy to post much. I'm sorry this seems to be in a weird "centered" format..I can't figure it out!
First of all... What is it about that man ?!?!?! Finally being able to see him live after yearning for it for so long was pure rapture. :awe: I haven't been that truly happy-feeling in so long! It was a serious happy high! (and now I'm tearing up just thinking about it!)
I brought along my semi-reluctant husband, he was a total sweetheart to come with me. We got to the club at about 7:30 and were amazed at the amount of people milling around outside and in and also at the mix of ages etc that were there. We tried to find a quiet spot to talk and ended up near the merchandise area. We were perplexed to see that The Last Goodnight posters were going like hotcakes! Finally my husband figured out that this was The Last Goodnight's hometown show. Oooh! It all made sense!
Josh was great - very nice to listen to. Loved his version of "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone." Then The Last Goodnight were up and it was very fun to feel their love and enthusiasm at this particular show. Their appreciation of their success and (at least Kurtis') love for their families was really sweet. I really enjoyed their music. The crowd was very much into it, the floor was totally filled. They were all (and I think that meant everyone on tour?) heading to Kurtis' mom's house for thanksgiving the next day. I thought that would be such a fun thanksgiving group!! (That reminds me- I always fantasize about joining the tour and cooking for all the guys so that they keep up their strength during the tour. To be "bus mom," that's my fantasy!) Josh had mentioned during his set that he was hoping for macaroni and cheese...wonder if he got it?!
Next they were setting up for Elliott. My husband was commenting on the set list and I told him I intentionally had tried not to memorize it, but I knew that he started with Alright and ended with A Song For You.
Then came the moment I've been waiting for for SO long!! I thought I was going to want to stand in the back and close my eyes and just listen, but when he came out, I found myself pulled towards the stage as if by magnetic force. It was so very wonderful to be there 12 feet in front of him listening to that voice live, just as I knew it would be. It was actually even better than I had imagined and I just never wanted it to end! The people next to me were really into it as well, so that was fun. I soaked up every note, trying to hold onto it! Loved every song and filled with warmth to see Elliott's true happiness and delight at everyone singing along to Wait For You. After he sang Movin' On he thanked everyone and went backstage and then people started leaving! My husband told me it was time to go (as I was standing rooted to my spot, my attention directed at the stage waiting for the pinnacle moment). I said No, he's going to sing A Song For You, because there was no doubt in my mind that he was coming back out. Then, the worst; the lights came on!!! I was stunned. What? Its over? No ASFY? It really took me a while to believe that he wasn't coming back out to sing it. :bricks: We guessed that 11:00 was curfew or something and that's why they had to end it then. I guess I have to wait some more to see that one.
My husband's report was that Elliott has a great voice, and that he loved "Free" (just to add in his perspective.)
So I had to tear myself away and it was painful!! I decided not to stick around to try to meet Elliott because I knew my husband wanted to get home and because of the above-mentioned shyness and also not wanting to take up his time, even though it would be such an exciting thing, and such an honor. I knew I would regret not at least trying to meet him, and I do! But I might have clung on to him and not let him go, right in front of my husband, and that would have been embarrassing!!
All through the next few days I kept getting pangs of longing since I knew that he was in Albany and then Boston. I SO DEARLY wanted to hop in my car and go to those shows. And it would have been nice to meet up with some of you Etrainers too! I guess that's the bummer about being 37 with two kiddos. Responsibilities? Do I have to?
So I will hope that Elliott has some rejuvenating down time ahead and I will wait, mostly impatiently, for another tour. I am so very grateful that he took that risk to share his gift with us all, it enriches my life every day!

wow, Reblecka!! I'm so glad you overcame your shyness to post your recap! It was amazing. You have nothing to be shy about here. It took me almost a year to start posting here, but as you can see, once I started, no one can shut me up!! ...I'm sure they would love to at times :rotfl:
I bet it was a really great show being in TLG's hometown. I'm so glad you decided to recap, especially since we hadn't heard from anyone else. I hope Elliott and the band had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I read in Josh's blog that he ate at the Cracker Barrel??
Please stick around and post more often. It's nice hearing from all of Elliott's fans :)

Reblecka, I'm so glad you posted your recap. You have captured in your words many of the feelings seeing Elliott live brings out. It was a great read!

Reblecka,
Thank you for posting!!!!! For a while I thought there WAS no Hartford show, hadn't heard a thing. Was the crowd loud for Elliott??/ Silly question, I am sure they were!. Glad you stayed up front to watch and listen. It's quite mesmerizing, isn't it!
Linda,
Yea, Josh and Trey ate at Cracker Barrel, and Sway flew home to spend the day with his dad. So it was Elliott and company that went to Kurtis' home for dinner.

Welcome Reblecka! Glad to hear from someone at the Hartford show. So glad you could attend and that your hubby was such a great sport about going with you.
I too went with my hubby. We had a really great "date night" like you. I know its hard with kids to get out enjoy a night like this together. I too didn't want to go all fan girly with my husband there, but he is almost as much of an Elliott fan as I am so I think he may have indulged me if E had come out. They ushered everyone out pretty quickly at our show (Boston) and I wasn't one of the lucky one to score a pre-show sound check pass. So no go this time.
I do have great memories of a fanstastic show, and like you said its even better than what you imagine it to be.

Thanks for your great recap, Reblecka. Loved what you wrote "I soaked up every note, trying to hold onto it!"
Wish there was a way we could hold onto his live vocals somehow...guess we'll be forced to go to more concerts.....

:grouphug: Welcome to the somewhat addictive world of posting reblecka! I LOVED your recap & completely relate to the kids/hubby scenario. Huby likes E's music, but isn't as...ummmmm....'adoring' as I! :awe: Perhaps you can get the opportunity to meet up with some Etrainers next time! :fangirly: :etrain:

Great recap, Reblecka! We finally got the scoop from Hartford!

Reblecka thanks so much for posting! I had the same experience the first time I saw Elliott in May (hubby wanting to get home) and didn't get to meet him. I know that feeling of longing to meet him that you talk about. Walked around in circles for days...wishing I had put my foot down and said, we're staying...LOL. This time I found an etrainer who lives on Long Island (mominny) and we met and went together. (left hubby home) Etrainers are the nicest people...after all, we all love Elliott....and I did get to meet him this time. You will too, you just have to find an Elliott lover to go with.

Thank you everyone for your sweet replies. I like the "no husbands" idea for the next show - I'll have to make that happen!! And now that I've broken the posting barrier, its very fun talking to other E-crazy people :-)

I know this is really late after the show, but I too was at the Hartford show. I was shocked that he didn't come out for A Song For You like he did in May when I saw him, but he was still amazing. I waited around after the show to try to meet him but unfortunatly it didn't happen. I waited for a while inside where the opening acts were but after a while the security guards said Elliott wasn't coming out. So I waited outside for a little bit but people said he had already come out to bring some people inside for a meet and greet. I was so upset because in May when I saw him in NY I waited for over an hour but didn't get to talk to him because I had a two hour car ride ahead of me and this time I was 15 mins away from the venue. Hopefully next time though! I really enjoyed the concert and hopefully I'll be able to see him again soon!
