Title: 9:30 Club - Oh What A Night!
Description: Elliott rocked DC

harleywoman - November 27, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
I'm going to start this and let others add. I'm at work this morning with only about 3 hours sleep if you want to call it sleep.

All I can say is last night was amazing. The crowd was awesome. Not a full house but you couldn't tell it from the response of the crowd. Pranks were played on all 3 of the acts. Elliott's mentor Tony K. was in the house as were some of his cousins.

During Josh's set, he dedicated Work that Body to Anton from TLG. Anton came out and started dancing in one of Josh's shirts that he sells. However, this was a pink tank top made for the women and it fit tight. It was so funny. Josh also added a shout out to me (Harley) in one of his songs. I can't remember exactly what he said or which song, my mind is a blur (and no there were no jello shots LOL). He even sang it to me again after the concert and I still can't remember. Lord I need help, I guess you could say Josh blew my mind. :rotfl: He said that he doesn't give shout outs in his songs often so I felt really special. Got a kiss too, now that I REMEMBER!

TLG were on fire. During one of their songs, Trey came out with a mask with lots of hair and Josh came out in gym shorts and both were dancing around. Poor Kurtis was having a hard finishing the song.

Then out came the man. This was my 6th show on this leg of the tour and I have to say, I thought he was awesome in the others, but nothing like last night. He was on FIRE! In between one of the songs, Brandon, one of Elliott's buddies from Richmond, Josh, and TLG had a toast on stage to celebrate the last night.

A lot of you know by now that Elliott sings a little 360 when giving props to Josh and a little Pictures of You when giving props to TLG. He was working the mic stand like Kurtis when giving props to TLG. Again, it was too funny.

So Elliott is finishing with Movin On, and we're all dancin, let me tell you, E-Trainers can move. I loved being with all you guys. Had so much fun. BTW, Lovinelliott23, your Dad is so cool. Loved how he was dancing trying to embarass you.

Anyway during the song, TLG and Trey and I don't know who else came out dressed in various costumes and were dancing around. Even the GEICO gecko.

Elliott ends with ASFY which was awesome but so much so because this was the last show. Elliott loved playing the 9:30 Club, said that he always wanted to.

It was sad that this was the last show for this leg of the tour, but there will be more. Josh did say when he was on stage, that he and Elliott will be touring again in the future.

To all the E-Trainers I've met along the way, you guys are great. Well I really need to get to work, so signing off for now.

ETA: Darn it, I really must be tired, I posted in the wrong forum. Mods, can you move this to Concert Recaps please.

I am gonna cry.............

I can only imagine how awesome it was to actually be there last night hon. So glad you got to experience it there in person;) And they are all such character's I can only imagine how funny the guys were! Anton is a little doll, and Josh giving you a shout out?? Couldn't be more perfect!! Also B getting to toast with Elliott on stage.....

*sniff*

xoxo

harleywoman - November 27, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah, I forgot, Brandon came down on the floor with us after a while, we had like an E-Train corner going. Elliott did a shout to Brandon and the E-Train as part of his parting words.

Also I got to be all :fangirly: and blow Aaron kisses. (Note to self, now Harley, remember your age - oh to h*ll with it I had a blast) :rotfl:

Efan2 - November 27, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
What a great night for you guys! Wish I had been there. Glad to hear that Josh will be touring with Elliott again in the future. Will look forward to that!

harleywoman - November 27, 2007 02:54 PM (GMT)
A little clarifying, although it was not a full house (9:30 Club holds about 1200), it was a huge crowd for a Monday night. There were a lot of walk ups. While we were waiting in line, one guy asked me who was playing tonight. I told him who and that he should buy a ticket because he was going to LOVE IT. He got in line to get a ticket. Let's just say the DC loved them some Josh, TLG, and ELLIOTT YAMIN!

We missed you! Linda, Lu, and Patty just left Manassas about 9:00 so they should be on soon. You'll laugh at this one. I took a pic of Lovinelliott23 with Josh. He now feels he has to educate the younger E-Trainers about jello shots. He told her "NO jello shots". :rotfl:

Linda4Elliott - November 27, 2007 03:03 PM (GMT)
thanks HW for your great recap! Sounds like an amazing night. I knew it would be. I am so excited to know that they will be touring together again. In NYC Josh told us the same thing after the show, but I didn't know if I was aloud to say it....but since he mentioned it from the stage, well YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!

cfans - November 27, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
I wanted to make a quick add that during the toast Josh went to the microphone and told Elliott that he loved him. He said it sincerely, not joking, and it was so touching. Kurtis from TLG also did the same.

I hope someone got a video or at least pictures of the antics. I kept my camera in my purse because I wanted to just take it all in without having to worry about getting a good shot. My purse was under the stage so I didn't have time to get it out.

Seeing Anton dance in his tight little Josh shirt was an experience in a lifetime. I didn't know he had it in him. :rotfl:

harleywoman - November 27, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)
Cfans, my dance partner. We need that pic. :rotfl:

As I wake up, things keep popping in my mind. Aaron commented last night that I had been to both a first show (Birchmere, Spring Tour) and last show. It amazes me that these guys can remember that stuff. I have trouble remembering one show. LOL

Thanks Harley - sounds like you guys had a blast (but of course we knew you would). I could just KICK myself for not getting a flight sooner so I could join in what seems like the perfect ending to this tour. I look forward to many many more and have enjoyed meeting all the E-Train family that I have. I can't wait to meet more in the future. I'm so TICKLED that this tour was so fantastic and that the last night was so great for everyone who was able to go!!

Until next time....

Great night. I finally got to see Elliott live (outside AI) and meet some E-trainers.

Elliott was really perfect last night. Every song was just such a total performance, completley nailed, band fabulous. Honestly, he makes a little drama out of every song, all those highs and lows, all those dynamics, just amazing. Turns out he's a totally natural performer as well as a totally natural singer.

They could make an Elliott Live album out of that concert without altering anything, I think. To me, it was a perfected performance from beginning to end. 9:30 was a nice place for him to end it, too, since he said he'd always dreamed of performing there and has never even seen a show there before, even though he's wanted to.

I was most amazed that, after the whole tour and all that singing just last night, he came out and did yet another brand-new, stunning version of A Song for You at the end, with all the subtlety that amazing voice has to offer. Joonie is a great partner for him on that song, with his really dramatic keyboard work. So cool.

Other stuff:

Elliott's shirt: Jews Do It for Eight Nights.

Anton of TLG dancing in the women's size small, yellow, tank-top Josh Hoge souvenir. Great bellydancing moves.

I hadn't heard much of Josh's stuff before. I really really like him as a songwriter -- stuff is catchy but with substance and grit; really enjoyable set. Glad he's in Elliott's group now. There should be some good song collaborations in their future.

Josh gave a shoutout to one of the XM 20 on 20 djs who was there, said he knew she's be playing the heck out of his next single just like she did the last one.

During his set, Josh was talking about going home and said something about sleeping with Elliott for two months; then he said, "Oh, I was thinking about sleeping with Elliott and completely lost my train of thought." Cute. He does good patter.

Near the close of his own set, he also said, "Elliott, I love you with my whole heart." Also sincere, like the toast comment. Nice to hear.

When all the guys came out at the end. Josh came out in the Geico gecko suit. (Puzzled a lot of the people near me -- I guess they didn't see his set, where he mentioned the deal with them). Anyway, much as I love the actual gecko, I love the man-in-the-gecko-suit even more, especially when the animal-control truck is chasing him.) So I was happy to see the Gecko.

Love the way Elliott's bandmates play together and also the way he and they interact on stage. I suppose that's part of why the band's such a great, tight ensemble. Russell punching Elliott at one point was funny and endearing, I thought.

Josh walked past me on his way to the bar to get the toast. He looked conspiratorial, walking and talking to the bartender, so I figured it was the next prank. When the toast was over, Elliott looked relieved. He said he figured he was going to get dunked or something during the evening.

And I have a souvenir (would have liked to grab one of the drumsticks Sobel was tossing at the end, but I was too far off the stage -- great sight lines though so I didn't miss anything): I forgot my ID yesterday so I have a 9:30 underage-stamp on each hand today -- nice to have a souvenir.

There really was a natural performer hidden behind the sweater vest and the chinstrap beard. Elliott's so completely come into his own that it's hard to imagine him getting any better as a performer at this point, but I'll bet he will. So wonderful to think that he finally gets to do this after the 47 jobs. Job 48 is going to last a lifetime.

Thanks, cfans! Great to meet you last night!

Rats -- I missed him twice! Oh, well, someday.

Maybe he got a few extra minutes of sleep because he had one less meet-and-greeter or something. Seriously, I hope he's getting enough sleep and exercise and good food, with all this running around. Off to Malaysia by the end of the week. Those trans-Pacific travels are rough. There are a lot of diabetics in my family, me included, and taking care of yourself is important for lengthening your life. Take care of yourself, Elliott!

applesauce, I don't think I would add a thing - glad you mentioned Elliott's shirt, I thought it was precious! It was great meeting you.

I sometimes think that if he has come this far in 2 short years - what a performer he will be down the road! I am also grateful that I got to meet Tony K last night - I also think - if it were not for him taking Elliott under his wing at a critical age, we might not be blessed with the beautiful person and performer he is today.

harleywoman - November 27, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
Applesause, thanks for clarifying that it indeed was Josh in the gecko suit. People around me thought it was but I didn't think so because didn't look tall enough but maybe it was my vantage point. Okay, people, I was wrong, okaaaaaaay. :rotfl:

It was great to meet you.

Great meeting you, too, Linda! Loved the shirt!

And I agree. *UN*believable that all this has happened in less than two years. Talk about -- Something you were born to do.

Great to meet you, too, Harley.

Of course, it could have been anybody in the suit!

I wondered about the height, too, when he first came out, but I was back by the lighting booth and had pretty good perspective. You could see the gecko character was a little bent over the whole time, and I also think the big head made the costume look shorter, so I think it probably was Josh.

Our boys were just shaking their heads and laughing over Lu's earnest effort to get the words "just right" to Little Ghetto Boy!!

All our boys were just wonderful - after the show we hung around for a few minutes and talked to most of the guys in the bands. Ely is such a sweetie! He's made Patti promise to put his autographed towel in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one day. And I think somebody has some cute pics of Aaron without his hat!

Had a chance to speak with Sway for just a few minutes -he is really a sweet, sweet person too. He said he's going to miss the tour now that it's over.

The thing that struck me about all the guys was their genuine, sincere, vocal expressions of absolute love for one another. They reminded me of that old beer commercial - "I love ya man!" They were about as teary as we were about the end of this tour.

Oh - one more thing - cfans and I spent some time talking to Trey Lockerbie's parents (Josh's guitarist) and they were very, very impressed with the ETrain as an organized fan base. I got the feeling that we are getting a bit of an awesome reputation in the music world for the way we have organized our support of our main guy.

Just one MORE thing - if anyone got some good shots of Trey, please post them in the concert media thread - we promised his parents we would get them any good ones that surfaced.

I already made prints of a bunch, but I will post them as well, as soon as I can get them uploaded.
Trey had a bunch of fans in Boston, screaming out "we love you Trey" The first time they did it, he looked so surprised, and Josh said " oh that's for you"
Then Trey just kind of sheepishly said " I love you too". It was so cute!

Thanks for the recaps, everybody!

Applesauce, so happy for you finally getting to see him in concert and thanks for your beautiful detailed recap of the evening. Glad to know he nailed the set at the 9:30 Club. I agree he had natural performing instincts all along that were just waiting to be let loose and now--WOW!

Nice to read about the fun they had and all the love (sniff) spread around during the last tour concert. Yay that E and Josh will be touring together in the future!

Oh what a night is right. Eventhough I was late getting there, it was one of the best nights of my E-train ride. Elliott rocked the house!! Thanks to B, my daughter Jenny (also a friend of E) and I were able to spend about 45 minutes or so with Elliott on his tour bus before he went on stage. I got some awesome pictures, really memorable time , and a few of his Heinekens, and autographs also got to meet his band and Sway. As usual he was very sweet, caring and very apprecitive. I can not wait to post my pictures here soon.

Thanks for all the updates. Yes I am at work again posting....but I am crying that it is over for now.....I loved every minute of reading everyone's tales of shows and meeting Elliott....wow-It was great.

I cannot wait until the next tour starts. I want to go to more than one show and wish I had the guts to go up to Boston this past weekend.

It has been great meeting all the etrainers and giving rides to strangers (LOL Rooney)

When exactly does the next tour start?????

Can't wait to see the pictures and video from this last show.
