Title: Best New Artist Grammy

jamie50 - December 1, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
This is part of a Grammy prediction column today by the master predictor Paul Grein. I found it on the Pulse Music Board.

This deals with his prediction for Best New Artist. Honestly for Elliott's name to be mentioned here is just incredible. I'm just hoping for a nod for Best Pop Vocal (male).

"Winehouse and Daughtry are also the front-runners for Best New Artist. Five acts—Feist, Plain White T’s, Sean Kingston, Colbie Caillat and Taylor Swift—will duke it out for the remaining three spots. Miley Cyrus and Elliot Yamin have an outside shot."

Paul Grein writes the weekly Chart Watch blog for Yahoo.com. He has been forecasting and analyzing the Grammys longer than Alicia Keys has been alive.

 :wow: :omg: :bounce: :kaoconfetti: (added)

How many nominations are there? 5 Maybe they will pick Elliott. One long shot !!

Taratova - December 1, 2007 01:34 AM (GMT)
If they took every nominee and played their music for 24 hours straight with no break, Elliott would win and no one would come close. Elliott's voice gets better with every listen!! I can't get tired listening to Elliott's voice.

AngELL - December 1, 2007 01:34 AM (GMT)
I just don't understand the others favored over E when they don't seem to hold a candle to him.....all politics, I guess...

atlantiskat - December 1, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
IT SURE IS NICE TO SEE ELLIOTT'S NAME MENTIONED. NOT GETTING MY HOPES UP, AT LEAST NOT FOR THIS YEAR. I HEARD TAYLOR SWIFT SING ON TV THE OTHER NIGHT. SCARY TO SEE HER ON THERE. SHE WAS DOWN RIGHT AWFUL. EVEN MY HUSBAND SAID, WHERE THE HELL DID THEY GET HER FROM. THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS STRANGE, TAYLOR SWIFT CAN GET NOMINATED, BUT ELLIOTT DOES NOT. SORRY IF I OFFENDED ANYONE, BUT SHE IS A LOUSY SINGER.

I guess some of these artists have been waiting around awhile and working hard to get where they are so I don't begrudge them the recognition. I'll be glad if Elliott gets nominated, even getting mentioned as a possibility is great. He has the best voice of the bunch at any rate--hope he gets to perform on the Grammys.

atlantiskat - December 1, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
OMG CHLOE, THE CUFFLINKS. SOMEDAY HE IS GOING TO WEAR THEM AND IT WILL BE TO ACCEPT HIS GRAMMY AND I WILL BE SCREAMING.

I'm not sure I understand the Sean Kingston cachet...He's brand-new and pretty rough around-the-edges in voice quality and stage presence IMO. Why should he surpass E? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Kingston

SEAN KINGSTON SOUNDS LIKE HE IS TALKING, NOT EVEN SINGING AND HE CAN GET NOMINATED. IT'S SCARY TO ME.

I hope Clive Davis reads HDD. I want him to know he passed on one of the possible nominees for Best New Artist. Good luck Clive in finding another one that easily. :elliottcap:

Lord Have Mercy. His name has been tossed in the ring of potential nominees! :thud:

Base the success of WFY against most of the acts listed & there is NO contest. Daughtry & Winehouse are givens with their success this past year (Swift as well, IMO). Bet the industry never imagined TWO American Idol contestants would be in the running for the same category Grammy nomination! This is SO exciting...even if he isn't nominated...he was MENTIONED. :thud:

I believe he has just as much a chance as Colbie, Sean & Plain White T's. Honest to goodness have no clue who Feist is.

:woohoo:

ladycentaur - December 1, 2007 02:39 AM (GMT)
There is a good chance that Amy Winehouse won't get nominated in light of her numerous on stage meltdowns, being drunk and high on stage so bad she can't even sing, swearing at the audience, getting booed by the audience and canceling the rest of her tour because she is a hot mess since her husband went to jail. That makes Elliott's chances even better.

Excellent point lc. Amy really is such a talented singer, but mercy sakes, her life is a hella mess. Makes me so thankful that the man whos' voice captured my heart is so appreciative & grateful for the gift he has. :elliottcap:

If the rumors about her heroin addiction are true, combined with alcohol abuse if she doesn't pull herself together soon it's unlikely she will be alright. By the looks of it, the shape she's in makes Lindsay Lohan's addictions look mild. She is very talented, but unfortunately it seems that she doesn't handle fame and fortune very well.

She's extremely talented and she's spiralling downhill. I hope she can pull it together. I hate seeing things like this happen to people. And on a happy note - YAY! that Elliott gets a mention!

Winehouse was a shoo-in, previously, Her antics over the last three months have made her tabloid fodder, tanked her singles, and disappointed many of her fans. It's hard to hit rock bottom in the public eye.

Look for Colbie Callait ("Bubbly") to be this year's darling. Taylor Swift will also sweep the country categories, with Underwood and Chesney following close behind.

Daughtry, Daughtry, Daughtry.....I can say no more about him. They will reward his sales.

As for Elliott, he has 2 problems: 1)he's indie. The awards are dominated by the big majors; good luck fighting the big labels; 2) his hype machine has not been big enough. Say what you want about Kingston, but his PR people made sure to get his name out there at the appropriate times. Do I think they should award Yamin for his song, one of the biggest hits of the year? Yes. The question is, will they? I guess I don't hold my breath. Any nomination would cap a great year (OW not withstanding), and cause hype to go into overdrive.

I think there may be an "indie" award, but with so many established acts going the indie route (Garth Brooks, The Eagles, etc.), he might be crowded out there, too.

durden - December 1, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
I still think that Winehouse is a shoo-in for a nomination at least, but Caillat will probably take this one. I think another problem Winehouse has is that she might have peaked a bit too early, whereas Caillat is peaking at the perfect time.

Daughtry will probably get nominated. But he will get nominated, as has been mentioned, because of his sales and because of his sales alone. And he will not win. The Grammys are not going to award BNA to two AI alums for two years straight.

As for Elliott, I'm personally not holding my breath, but I would love to be wrong come nomination night. He deserves the BNA, I have no doubt, but I just feel that he did not make a big enough splash in the music world this year. However, if they are going for the true breakout artist of the year, this should go to Elliott. Who would have even expected, one year ago, that he would be where he is now?

No worries. Elliott WILL get a Grammy one day. It may or may not be this year, but he WILL get one (or several).

And if Miley Cyrus and Sean Kingston get nominated over Elliott, I will puke.

ohioguy45780 - December 1, 2007 02:30 PM (GMT)
I actually think Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana may get a nomination!
It sounds far-fetched, but the industry knows its bread and butter.

Kingston probably will get a BNA nomination.

Let's just get a collective E-train puke bucket, then. Grammys should not go to people who cannot hold a note, and Kingston is completely tone deaf and talentless as a singer.

As a media creation for the pop world, he's passable. But the awards shouldn't reward singers who are created in music studios.

Linda4Elliott - December 1, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
If anyone has heard Sean Kingston sing live, he would NEVER, EVER be nominated. It would be a real shame and actually an embarrasment to the industry. I've watched several youtube vids of him, and he literally is off key (WAY 0ff) almost the entire song.

Amy Winehouse is a great artist and even with her public and private issues, she still will get nominated, and should.

I really don't know much about Colby except Bubbly.

Is there a Best male Pop Vocal category?
