Title: Requesting Christmas Songs
Description: Which one?
jogr - December 7, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
I think that we should decide which Elliott's Christmas songs we will request. I think it's better if we all ask for the same song so it has a chanse to get somewhere high on the Mediabase. My favorite is Merry Christmas, Baby but I think that so far the most popular are This Christmas and The Christmas Song. So which one do we support?

This Christmas is available for download and is widely available to all stations since it was released last year, so I would go for that one! Elliott's Christmas Song is great, but it will always be Nat King Cole's version that is the classic. I don't think anybody has ever done This Christmas as well as Elliott - so I would vote we focus on that one (except here in Richmond where they are happy to play them all)

I agree Linda, also This Christmas was released last year, so maybe the stations that set their Christmas playlist in July, will be more likely to have it.
I think that if Donny had lived longer, his This Christmas may have been a classic, but when you listen to his and Elliott's version back to back, you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference. Elliott sounds freakingly like Donny!!! :elliottski:

I agree - even here in Richmond where they play them all, I think I hear This Christmas slightly more than the others. Oh, and I have to respectfully disagree about Nat King Cole's Christmas Song - while I do love Nat King Cole's version, it's Mel Torme's that is the classic to me. Nobody sings a song like the one who wrote it - the Velvet Fog himself. Am I telling my age here? LOL!

I heard The Christmas Song in NYC late last night. The big AC station ("fresh") played it and it took awhile for me to realize it was Elliott. I actually thought it was Nat King Cole for awhile. This is the only the second song I've heard by E on the radio since NYC doesn't play OW and it was very cool.
By the way, this station doesn't play non stop Xmas music. It plays selected Xmas music with the regular playlist, so this is really a big deal. I know they've been playing it for awhile, but it's the first time I've heard it.
So keep requesting the Christmas music. Any E music on the radio is good in my book and we'll have a short time to enjoy his holiday stuff.

I think Merry Christmas Baby is getting lots of play, also.
Taratova - December 18, 2007 02:56 PM (GMT)
A Very Merry Christmas is not a cover and could be Elliott's alone. Jingle Bells would jam like no other version..
Merry Christmas Baby is also Bruce's song. I would love for Eliott to have his own song. I just want everyone requesting for a song.

Here's my 2 cents, either "Warm Me Up" or "Merry Christmas Baby". I'm afraid "This Christmas" will have competition with Chris Brown's version because of the movie right now.

While reading this thread and listening to Yahoo Music-Pop Holiday, Elliott's
This Christmas started playing. Actually, this is the second time I heard this song here.

:xmascheers: My fave is This Christmas!

I think it's best to take our cues on Xmas music from what radio stations are already playing. The stations playing the most Xmas music are those with AC formats, most of which have already switched to round-the-clock Xmas programming. The other formats have started to throw in a scattering of Xmas songs.
These are the dominant songs by format with current ranking in ():
AC: This Christmas (#35), Merry Christmas Baby (#96)
HAC: Merry Christmas Baby (#130), This Christmas (#131)
Top 40: Merry Christmas Baby (#137) - recently 38 stations added this song (for some reason, yesterday's updates didn't post)
You can always check what Xmas songs the stations in your area are playing on the Radio Tracker.
jamie50 - December 18, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
Wow, I just looked at the Tracker. Did some syndicated show play MCB because that's alot of stations. Are those official adds or just one shot plays?. I see WPLJ played MCB also. So two NYC stations are playing his Xmas stuff.
alienhamster - December 18, 2007 06:47 PM (GMT)
I think it had to be a syndicated show. It was over the weekend, usually just one spin at each station. New adds rarely start on the weekend, and if they do, it won't be just one spin.
I agree with Movin, but with a twist: Figure out what your station has already played by Elliott and request that. Stations want to hear feedback about songs they've already played. They are much less receptive to requests for songs that they've never played.
Show them you're a listener by requesting an Elliott song they've played before. It may encourage them to increase rotation.
And remember: there's only a week left til Xmas!

This is from Ken Barnes' review of AC radio play today:
Elliott's This Christmas is up 28-27.
He uses a different chart that Mediabase (the one that BB uses). Too bad people are buying the album and not dling the single, because TC might have a chance of getting into the Hot 100.
Nevermind, selling an album is still better than selling a single. :rocker:

Does anybody listen to Delilah? Because The Christmas Song just got a ton of spins on various stations. I'm thinking Delilah just spun it.

It was John Tesh with 10 stations showing up at yes.com.

Thanks for the info. It's great that TCS is showing up on Yes. It's fun to see where his music gets played.
jamie50 - December 19, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
WWFS (fresh) in NYC played This Christmas (for the first time I think) at 7;30 am today. If OW can't do it, I want to see E's Xmas music move up the charts. Ken Barnes' chart (which is based on a.i.), has TC at 27. A morning play in drive time can only help. So NYers can now request both TC and TCS at this station. :elliottcap:

I requested "Warm Me Up" on Lite98 radio here in Richmond and was told by the DJ that the boss wouldn't let her play it. What's up with that?

WRVR 104.5 "The River" in Memphis is playing "Warm Me Up" (31 spins so far):

While Elliott sang TC on WPLJ in NY today, WWFS played The Christmas Song at 7:58 this morning. So two E Christmas songs got heard in drive time in the biggest market in the nation today. :rocker:
