lordy, let's not spam this one, which will appear in the print version, maybe.

Nice to see him listed!

Not at all surprised about the Josh Groban's poll numbers, but honestly had not idea that the Capt and Tennille were in such hot demand- still remember dancing to that song, "Muskrat love" in high school. It's a miracle with all the marital breakups and shakeups that these two are still hanging in there
gotta give them credit
Of course, I voted for Elliott!

ohioguy45780 - December 11, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
actually, Captain and Tennille have had a resurgence of late ( I know, I know...SCARY!!!!). They have released three albums since 2005, according to the web. Bubblegum to the max to me, but whatever floats your boat. Points to Tennille for singing on several of Pink Floyd's recordings, however.

applesauce - December 11, 2007 01:04 PM (GMT)
Great that Elliott's on this list!

(Very important that we refrain from putting him out ahead of Groban, who seems to have the number-one album overall this week yet again.... That would look a little fishy :santarotfl: )

ohioguy45780 - December 11, 2007 01:11 PM (GMT)
Groban has the power of Oprah behind him. He's a great singer, regardless.
I wonder if she'll be able to help Obama as well as she helped Groban?

It's wonderful that Elliott's holiday CD is on this list!

When I logged on to this survey again to check the voting, it went straight to the results page, not the voting page. Does this happen to the rest of you and does it mean that only 1 vote is allowed? I don't have a problem with the 1 vote rule but I am curious. And if only 1 vote is allowed, please all you etrainers, vote. Any mention of this cd anywhere is good news. Remember, Elliott gets the master to this cd after January and could really mean a lot to him financially. I read somewhere that every song on this cd has had some air play, so Elliott will probably expand with more songs when he re-issues it next year. And it really is a good holiday album.

Well, Josh Groban didn't have Oprah behind him when he was new and needed more help either! He had a major-label contract and David Foster and other stuff behind him -- of course -- but Oprah's only gotten on board now that he's a success. It's very rare for Oprah to give any props to anybody but big big big names, although she has with Fantasia a bit. I think she totally identifies with Fanty, though, so that's different. Oprah's show is all about Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt, mostly. And now Josh Groban, since he's already huge.

Well, Carnie needs the help. On the USA Today poll, she's down at 2 percent, whereas Elliott has almost caught up with the Captain and Tenille. :santarotfl:

Okay, I just love the rolling on the floor Santa.

ohioguy45780 - December 11, 2007 03:06 PM (GMT)
do the Captain and Tennille have a fanbase?
who even knew they had a record out?
how can they be so high?
Marie Osmond should be there...she's on the Billboard!

I totally agree with you about Carnie Wilson! Elliott's CD was shown this morning on the Today Show during a consumer segment on holiday steals and deals. They were talking about CDs, and a picture was shown of maybe four discs with Elliott's being in a very prominent top right position. I was so pleased to see him even though they didn't mention anyone by name.

Well, according to their official page -- http://www.captainandtennille.net/ctfanclub.htm

their official fan club is on "temporary hold."

And yet they are outvoting us!

Do the Captain and Tenille have a lot of children and grandchildren? :santarotfl:

Cool that Elliott's cd at least showed up visually on Today, britrk66!

ohioguy45780 - December 11, 2007 03:25 PM (GMT)

britrk66, That is good news about Elliott's cd being featured on the Today show......even tho I love Elliott and couldn't wait to buy this cd, I am surprised at what seems to be wide interest, beyond just his fan base. I really do think this is a holiday release that could have legs next year too.

Adding to the mysteries, Amazon -- http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Christmas-Cap...97387396&sr=8-1

-- lists the Captain and T's Christmas cd as "currently unavailable."

Maybe all the votes are coming from people who really wanted to buy it but weren't able to because it doesn't actually exist! Strange. I guess even the Captain and Tennille underestimated how well their cd would sell. ... They've never done a Christmas cd apparently. So I suppose it's something their fans have been hungering for for, like, 30 years.

Yea but is Josh Groban seriously dedicated and committed to finding a cure for a disease that affects millions to the point of being a spokesperson before congressmen/women and attending UN functions about JD in addition to being one of the most humble and charming celebrities ever and having a voice that reaches the depths of your soul?

Come on Oprah. It bothers me that she sort of promotes herself as being on the edge for new talent & products that are good for the soul, but is she really?

Judy - December 11, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
Silly me, I completely forgot about Elliott's connection with NBC, or their quasi-connection since they really didn't do him justice. I just thought someone there had good taste. Whatever, I still love seeing his name on this survey.

I hope I don't get burned at the stake for saying this, but I am not an Oprah fan. Even so, it would be so helpful for Elliott to be on her show. I'm afraid I'm not very optimistic though. She will only have him on when he's has enough cool factor...IMO...and helps her ratings...then she would act as if she discovered him.... This is just an opinion folks

I think that in some ways Oprah's heart is in the right place. But she is now a huge huge enterprise, and that means that a lot of the world is invisible to you, and that definitely includes up-and-coming artists. She will have Elliott on her show ten years from now when he's been huge for years and has a new album coming out. That's the case with almost all of her celebrity guests.

As for Josh G. Well, I prefer Elliott's style and singing, but many many people would say that Groban's voice also reaches the depths of your soul (and I agree that it's a darned good voice and that he's an excellent musician as well), and he also does a lot of charity work, has his own charitable foundation for kids, works on the internation HIV/AIDS effort, was appointed to a AIDS in Africa group by Nelson Mandela, etc., and seems by reputation to be a nice guy, too. The difference is -- he's already really famous and Elliott' isn't.

Linda4Elliott, I am another non-fan of Oprah. She is one who IMHO has let fame completely change her. 'Course if she has Elliott on her show, my non-fan status would immediately change to love. LOL

Interesting. ... I noticed on the Today site a "steals and deals" segment featuring somebody from ivillage/In the Loop. I wonder whether that's why the Elliott cd was featured -- that the story was a pickup from In the Loop and was related to the ivillage Elliott segment.

I like Oprah. :) Also, it seems like it took awhile for Oprah to warm up to Fantasia. She had Carrie Underwood on her show before Fantasia appeared on her show and Fantasia won season 3! lol But I know Oprah loved Ruben; I remember her having Ru on there for her tribute to Luther Vandross <3

I haven't watched Oprah regularly, but sometimes she had some people on her show who hadn't already "made it", like inventors or authors. At least it appeared that way to me, as I had never heard of them before, and they seemed like "regular" people trying to make it. But she does tend to promote the big celebrities and names. Didn't she promote Ty Pennington before he was "big"? Or maybe he was already somewhat big, and I was just late realizing it.

Oprah will most likely have him on eventually. She had to have heard WFY this year and wondered who that incredible voice belonged to! ;)

Just voted.

I like Oprah because she utilizes her power and influence to raise awareness of important social issues by having honest communication with regular people. It is not to make fun of them or exploit the problems like other talk shows. Do I agree with and abide by everything she says? Not by 500 miles. However, I do like her, Groban, Obama, and Elliott equally for different reasons :)

I wonder if she'll be able to help Obama as well as she helped Groban?

Did you get to hear the full speech she made at a rally for Obama? I thought it was very humble, eloquent, and she countered a lot of what other candidates have been trying to say as to why he would not be a good president. For some people it will help while others it will not. Still, I think on the average it will be a positive thing.

Groban = major label and major promo-machine. He is talented, but those 2 things are a major help.
