Title: So You Think You Can Dance

IBelieveToMySoul - May 25, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
Well, the show starts in 9 minutes so I thought it would be a good idea to start a topic about it where we can talk about our early favorites and stuff like that.

nikobie - May 26, 2006 12:08 AM (GMT)
Ok, I'm here. Tivoing SUTUCD...was watching MJB/E and PRINCE again...and again...and again
so I'll be catching up.

IBelieveToMySoul - May 26, 2006 12:09 AM (GMT)
Alright cool.

Did you have a favorite last season?

nikobie - May 26, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
Just finished watching and ya know what? I just can't care very much about it. I think just too much energy and emotional involvement in AI to crank it up again.
Too soon.
Love dance and will watch, but in a casual kind of way for now.
Liked some, thought the gender switch person was hilarious.

Just hard to get involved.

I know, I feel the same way. But I also think that's because it's not personal yet. Everyone is new and there's so many of them. Once they whittle it down to, what is it 20? and you start to see their personalities and dance styles, etc. etc. you'll get into it again.

I SWORE up and down that after Bo I could never ever get attached to another AI contestant again. Not because I didn't want to but because I didn't think it was possible. And then Elliott comes along, sings a song, and BAM :thud: , I'm saying "Bo who"?

You'll get into it again, you'll see.

It wasn't super exciting, but I already know who I like. Go Musa Cooper! (The breakdancer who tried out last year and didn't make it)

LOL

I watched several singing and dancing contests though, and although I always end up having a favorite or two, there's certainly a difference in intensity - there are some I like, some I LIKE, some I love and some I LOVE. I won't have any problem getting into it because I'm already used to having at least one contest going on. While watching AI I also watched Dance Fever which isn't that exciting because the format is not that good, but there were some excellent dancers, my fave was the great BBoy Crumbs (you might have had a glimpse of him on last year's SYTYCD finale - he's with the Groovallo). It ended the night after Elliott was voted off and also there my fave didn't win :(. As AI was drawing to its end our local version just started - there were already several auditions episodes and I still haven't found myself a fave but I probably will - I always do . And now SYTYCD just started. After these two will end there will be AI6 and our local version of SYTYCD. So life is never dull...

Last year I was so emotionally involved with my fave in our local show and everything around the show - it was the first time I actually watched a show like that from the beginning - I thought I just couldn't watch anything like that again, it was too nerve wrecking, too intense. But in the end I somehow got used to having it all the time, I might even say I'm somewhat addicted to the "action", but I take it a lot easier now.

Jamile... was he the black guy that kept getting the ballroom dances?
I really liked him.. he seemed SO sweet and I thought he did pretty dern well with those ballroom dances considering he had never done them before.
I thought he was a poplocker? Is that what it's called?.. not a breaker... *shrugs*

That Musa guy seemed pretty cool too. I hope he does well! I always love the hiphop, breakers, etc people.

I hope that one poplock guy does well too!

And and.... yeeeaaah.

I loved Nick from last year and was SO glad he won cause well... other than me liking him.. I really didn't like Melody. She just really didn't impress me any.
And I think my fav dance of that season was when him and Camile? did the Disco number.
I LOVED IT! lol

Think he was the little spikey Dragon Ball Z hispanic? breaker. The one that did the breakdance moves on his elbows and landed on his head and stuff...

Yep, that's they guy. I think he was actully kinda a poplocker/breakdancer/hip-hop dancer all together. Probably mostly a poplocker, but he added a bunch of other things when he actully got hip-hop dance.

I thought his ballroom was really good also.

Amunet - May 26, 2006 04:10 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah.. and I'm SO glad they got a new host.
I couldn't stand that plastic surgery nightmare from last season.

I liked Ryan alot! So did my daughter! But I don't think I have any favorites. There was something that everyone did or danced I should say, that at some point I said "Wow, I want to do that when I grow up!"

I can't wait for this show to actually get started. Last night the only one I really was impressed by was Musa. Not just because he was good, but because he actually took the judges advice and went out and improved himself. That in itself is really impressive and admirable to me and I hope he goes far!!

nikobie - May 26, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)
ryan! with the hair! I liked him ok...
didn't like Melody...actually didn't like any of the gals (especially the one that was always wearing the animal print stuff).

I did like Jamile...I thought he did a good job. But I was behind Nick.

evilysa - May 26, 2006 03:41 PM (GMT)
I watched the second half of the show. I missed it last year. I cannot even remember any of the names. I will be recording it and watching this year.

I have a four year old that loves to dance. His teacher was injured so his class was canceled so I took him to a new place. One little girl sat out and wouldn't dance because she didn't like boys in her dance class. Well, sorry princess! :P

efunk_adelic - May 26, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
Like AI auditions... I don't like them...

I just want to get on with the competition. Have I lost my sense of humor?

Last night was boring... but I know it will pick up. :bunny:

GypsyButterfly - May 26, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
My husband & I didn't see it last year. We did record some of the episodes, though, but never got around to watching them. Was it on the same night last year? I don't know why we didn't check it out.

We both liked last night's show. I've always loved watching dancing, especially, in musicals. Our early favorite is David. I'm not sure if that's it. I hate forgetting a person's name. He's the recovering alcoholic. I was touched by his story. It made me emotional. I tend to root for the underdog. Plus, I enjoyed his performance

LadyB - May 26, 2006 11:27 PM (GMT)
I watched last year. I really liked Jamile, Ryan and Artem.
The show last night was pretty good. I was impressed by Musa. I also liked the recovering alcoholic.

efunk_adelic - May 27, 2006 01:17 AM (GMT)
that show was off the hook last year...

I liked everybody from the Top 8.

Especially liked all the 70's disco dancing... hot hot hot :bunny:

nikobie - May 27, 2006 01:56 AM (GMT)
I liked Artem also.

I did not like Snow or Artem whatsoever.

Oh I couldn't stand Blake! Or Snow.. or as I said earlier... Melody.

Blake- Great great dancer, ego was out of control though.

Snow- She was just.. I dunno.. kinda weird....

Melody- Cute at first then seemed to be getting a bit too full of herself towards the end. Plus I was gonna scream if she did that damn leg thing again :P lol

I couldn't watch yet - waiting to downlaod it from somewhere. But they had an impressive breaker called Musa something last year and he didn't make it to the top 16 because he couldn't handle the other styles. Could be the same Musa after a couple of dance classes? There aren't too many impressive breakers called Musa in the US, I assume (it's Arabic for Moses, BTW).

I watched a couple of videos from this season at Rickey.org and there was a breaker called Christopher Bryant who was AMAZING :o He knocked me of my feet. You can watch him here under "Non-stop breaker":
http://www.rickey.org/blog/2006/05/so_you_...ance_aud_1.html

Last year they had some great breakers who didn't make it to the top 16 because they had trouble picking up choreography and dancing other styles. I particularly liked Nick Gates, if anyone remembers him... I guess it will be the same this year.

I liked Ryan and his elbow dancing :). Jamile - I liked him as a person and he was also very good looking and had a very masculine and cool stage presence, but to me he was a mediocre dancer even in his own style (please don't kick my but - everyone is entitled to their opinion ).

LOVED Blake :thud:

It may sound stupid but I'm almost in tears. I thought he probably won't make it for this reason, but I was so looking forward to seeing him dance. Hope someone have noticed him and will pick him up for a Hip Hop job, he's terrific.

But I'm happy about Musa :). Hope he will make it this time :cheerleader:

Yay, a SYTYCD thread! Well, one of my friends is on it, so I am uber-excited about these first few weeks... he made it until the VERY LAST CUT, when they pick the final 15 or 20 (I forget what he said- but you know, when they pick the ones we'll actually get to vote for... so close!!!)... thus, he should get some decent air-time... plus, I've been getting a lot of secret, insider scoop! Fun times!

Who was he?

There were alot of really impressive people tonight though! Too bad some didn't make it.

Like uhm.... lets see.. I don't remember names so just gonna explain what I remember about them heh...

I loved the return of the asian breaker boys... heh.. the ones that are in the dance group with Ryan from last season. God they are freaking amazing!! The things they do just blow everyone away. That one guy's tricks where he did that flip while doing a walking kinda thing with his feet was just insane.
He didn't make it though which stinks.. but I'm glad 2 of them did.. yay :woohoo:

And I liked the black adopted guy. Yes his story just sucked me in heh. Him with those little girls just made me love the guy. Plus he was really good.

Also liked that white guy that looked like he was 12. The one where the judge was even commenting on how he looks like a baby heh. He was really good too.

I'm pretty sure there were others that I liked, but I just can't think of them atm.

I really hope they change the way they pick who is in the bottom. I hated the way they did it last year b/c some really great people got put into the bottom for no fault of their own.

jmhender - June 1, 2006 11:13 AM (GMT)
Do the judges really annoy anybody else or is it just me? Especially the lady, sorry I can't remember her name. I'm going to watch it again tomorrow night with my suitemates, and hopefully it gets a little better & holds our interest!
