Looks like they're getting ready. Those look like the Sessions videos that MOMster found.

ETA: From the videos posted - looks like OW, Free, WFY and an interview. I'll have to make sure AmandaRhea gets the word so she can hear Free when it goes live.

PoorMe - December 21, 2007 07:10 PM (GMT)
You can watch them now. I've watched all four.

yellin4yamin - December 21, 2007 08:19 PM (GMT)

where can I hear it...HELP!!!

alienhamster - December 21, 2007 08:43 PM (GMT)
It's great to hear Sway's harmony up close, finally. And I like the intimate way this is all recorded. But . . . (don't kill me everyone) . . .

Elliott didn't seem in his best voice on this recording. Was this done towards the end of the tour? His voice seemed awfully tired to me, and the energy was a little flat in places. Then again, "One Word" and "Wait for You" are my least favorite live performance songs anyway (though they are some of my favorites from the CD). Those songs don't really allow him to showcase his voice so much--or at least as much as we know he can.

But I hope a lot of people get a chance to see this. And I hope he continues to record his music live, because he is a very rare, talented singer (especially these days). As one of my non-Elliott-fan friends said, "This guy sounds as good live as normal people do coming out of a studio."

If I am not mistaken, this was recorded the day of the Highline concert, which was almost at the end of the tour,

I agree with you, alien. The voice sounds a little tired. I love the way the harmony sounds in some places, others not so much. Didn't like how it sounded at the beginning of WFY. Free is totally awesome. I like how he says they'll give it the old college try. Very, very nice. I've only had the chance to listen once because I'm at work today, but I'm sure I'll be watching these over and over again. Even tired he sounds great.

alienhamster - December 21, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
My other guess was that this was a morning recording. Elliott doesn't always warm up well during those early-in-the-day performances. He had some rough patches on some of the morning shows he was on. It's almost like a clarity thing: in the mornings he sometimes to have a froggy thing, while at nites he can harness the gritty quality in his voice without losing clarity of tone.

He really does seem to be a night owl. His energy level and voice always seem to peak at night time.

P.S. I agree that "Free" is the best of the three recordings here.

PoorMe - December 21, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
He was in very good form at WPLJ yesterday morning, but that was early enough that he may never have gone to bed.

I only got to hear the bluesy duet thing with the Holiday Express group, and he did sound pretty good there. I'm not saying he's always got frogginess in the mornings--just a general pattern I've noticed.

And to be fair, your voice is VERY exposed when you do these acoustic performances (at aol, or on the radio tour, etc.). That's why most pop artists won't do them. It's easier to notice things that would otherwise be covered up by a live band or crappy acoustics.

I still like "Take my Breath Away" live, and it would be cool to hear that and "I'm the Man" acoustic.

I think he sounded great. It must be more difficult to perform sitting on a stage just for a camera and no audience interaction.

ETA: I could watch Aaron all day. :rocker:

Me too!!! I wish they'd sell 'em on itunes along with yesterday's MCB!

harleywoman - December 21, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
To add further, I thought he was brilliant on Free, especially for not doing it accoustically very often. I've already posted the link on AmandaRhea's CB page. She will love it and I'm sure it will lift her spirits. For those of you that may not know, AmandaRhea had "Free" playing when she had her bone marrow transplant, the song means a lot to her. Elliott dedicated his performance of that song to her at the Memphis concert.

imthesame - December 21, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
Now I've received my Christmas gifts - the studio versions are terrific. Thank you, I love them.

alienhamster - December 21, 2007 09:56 PM (GMT)
While not my favorite song on the CD, "Free" did sound really good in acoustic form. I'd love to see Elliott release an acoustic version of the entire album. I wonder how many he'd need to sell to make it worth the trouble.

I only recall him doing the acoustic I'm the Man in the Philippines. It was fantastic. I would love for him to do an entire concert tour acoustic, but that would leave out too many band members, so I don't think it would ever happen.

The morning frogginess or raspiness is, to me, just another character of his voice. My sister was telling me about a singer she liked who had a particularly raspy voice, and I said, "Yeah, Elliott has kind of a raspy voice" and she looked at me like I was crazy. She hadn't heard him enough to know all his different sounds. It may be quite some time before we've heard all the things he can do with his voice, and those sounds will change as he matures.

Just because he's not at his best voice doesn't mean he doesn't sound good. He always sounds good. There's only been a couple times ever when I've heard him and thought he sounded off - and that's even hard to judge when watching youtube videos of varying quality.

Just listened; I thought he sounded great.
maybe I'm missing something (or just am too tired to over-analyze to death).

Thanks for the links! I'll check it out!

This is still not featured on their front page. :protest:

Efan2 - December 22, 2007 02:42 AM (GMT)
Just listened to all the songs and the interview. "Free" was my favorite. Sway sounded particularly good on background vocals. Had to laugh out loud when Elliott said he bit his toenails when he was a kid and could reach them! How many people would admit to that.......:-)

:tisdseason:

Elliott never fails to please.

IMO....."He sounded GREAT"

CathyEM - December 22, 2007 04:48 AM (GMT)
Poorme, I agree with you about the acoustic version of "I'm the Man." It's spoiled all of the other versions for me. I wish he'd do this song acoustically more often.

I just listened to the AOL sessions "Wait for You" recording... he does start going flat toward the end. He pulls it back on key but keeps wavering... he must have REALLY been tired. I wish they could have done another take, though I'm not sure things would have improved at that point.

georgiafan1 - December 22, 2007 05:01 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the link. I loved the videos. That interview was great. In my opinion, Elliott sounded great on the songs. Sway was really impressive. I love to hear guys harmonize. That's one reason I love acappella (sp?) and old school R&B groups so much.

I enjoyed the entire Sessions experience. :elliottcap:

MOMster - December 22, 2007 05:42 AM (GMT)
I finally got a chance to listen to all the aol vids - wow, Free was definitely the standout- that song was never my favorite, but I loved Elliott's vocals on this -and Sway was fantastic too!

sherwood - December 22, 2007 07:20 AM (GMT)

Here's a link to the AOL vids on Youtube that Craxymonkey just put up! For all the Internationals who can't get them otherwise (AOL you suck)

shatner8 - December 22, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
Loved the videos, Free definately the standout for me, Sway really good with the harmonies on that, complements Elliott really well Aaron is adorable to watch,he just loves to sing along, and just loves the music, and being there.

ohioguy45780 - December 22, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
just watched the interview.

I don't think I would have admitted to chewing my toenails. LOL.
You got to respect a man that doesn't give a crap about what anyone thinks, really; even if chewing toenails is, well....gross. LOL.
