Title: Favorite Holiday Music
Description: besides Elliott's songs

movin2thabeet - December 23, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
Now that it's almost Christmas (Happy Solstice!), I thought it might be fun to hear what everyone likes to listen to during the holiday season (besides Elliott).

Here are some songs that I've been enjoying:

> God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, by Barenaked Ladies
> What Child is This, by Sarah McLachlan
> Silent Night, by EmmyLou Harris
> Christmas Song, by Dave Matthews
> The Chanukah Song, by Adam Sandler (ever popular)
> River, by Sarah McLachlan

And my favorite holiday CD, A Winter Garden, by Loreena McKennitt http://www.amazon.com/Winter-Garden-Five-S...98374586&sr=8-3

This has one of my all-time favorite songs on it, Seeds of Love - a beautiful love song.

What do you like to listen to?

I love the traditional songs, sung by the legends. Burl Ives, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, etc. Time Life Treasury of Christmas is a MUST listen to in my home, most of my faves are on that! I also enjoy Mariah Carey's, "All I Want for Christmas" & Christmas CD's from Clay Aiken, Garth Brooks & Martina McBride .

Sleigh Ride my is my ultimate Christmas Song, so fun!! :hapiholidays:

I love everything from classics to contemporary...Anything by Andy Williams and the Home Alone soundtrack. I have so many favorites, that would take days but here are some with youtube links.

Merry Christmas Darling - The Carpenters
Mary Did You Know - Clay Aiken
Do You Hear What I Hear? - Vince Gill
Let There Be Peace On Earth - Vince Gill (duet with his daughter Jenny)
Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth (Bing Crosby & David Bowie)
River - Sarah McLachlan
My Grown Up Christmas List - Kelly Clarkson

And some fun ones:
Run, Run Rudolph - Chuck Berry
Mister Santa - Amy Grant
All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan - Kenny Chesney
I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas - Gayla Peevey

These are probably my 3 favorite cds (after Elliott's), but again I have many...

James Taylor's christmas album from last year. Produced and arranged by Dave Grusin. Beautiful. Very jazzy and excellent musicianship. Natalie Cole sings "Baby, it's Cold Outside" with him and it's my favorite version ever.

The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Karen Carpenter

Yesterday I heard Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas sung by Barbra Streisand again and that is especially poignant and makes me stop and listen. I love her Christmas album, as well as an old classic by Johnny Mathis.

Sleigh Ride is pure joy, and Silver Bells brings to mind memories of growing up in the city, but Jingle Bell Rock is my hands down favorite holiday hit record.

I have to bring out Pavarotti for O Holy Night and Ave Maria, and then just about any version of Silent Night brings tears to my eyes.

less then 2 days left...can't wait :hapiholidays:

The Christmas Song-Michael Tait (sorry Nat King Cole, but THIS is the best version ever. It's flawless)
In Bleak Midwinter-Paul Colman Trio
Blue Christmas-Elvis Presley (it's a classic)
Love Came Down at Christmas-Jars of Clay (still listening to it...and Christmas is over)
Jingle Bell Rock-Randy Travis (still my fave version, but I've thought Randy Travis was awesome since I was...about 7 so I'm biased)
Baby Please Come Home-Anberlin (totally different from the original, it's rockin'!)
Let it Snow-Frank Sinatra (the best song to sing along to while driving)
Mary, Did You Know-Clay Aiken (LOVE his version)
This Christmas-Mr. Elliott Yamin (HA! You didn't think I'd skip THIS did you? Still my fave Christmas song from him, the arrangement, instrumentation, and vocals are amazing)

Well, my favorite Christmas cd to listen to is A Christmas Together by John Denver & The Muppets. :) When my brother and I were little, my dad would play the record for us when we were putting up Christmas decorations. It was so fun, and I cherish those memories. Now that I'm older, I still love those songs. Some of them are fun. Others are beautiful. I listen to that cd every year. Here's the list of songs from it:

Twelve Days of Christmas
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
The Peace Carol
Christmas Is Coming
A Baby Just Like You
Deck the Halls
When the River Meets the Sea
Little Saint Nick
Noel: Christmas Eve, 1913
The Christmas Wish
Medley: Alfie The Christmas Tree; Carol For a Christmas Tree; It's In Every One of Us
Silent Night, Holy Night
We Wish You a Merry Christmas

Other Christmas songs/albums that I love are :

"Last Christmas" by Wham! It's such a timeless pop Christmas song, and I still love the original no matter how many artists cover it. Wham!'s will always be my favorite...I'm a huge fan of George Michael. <3

"Merry Christmas Darling" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by the Carpenters. I truly loved Karen Carpenter's voice. Wow, what a tragic loss. :(

David Bowie & Bing Crosby's duet of "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy."

I also remember listening to Johnny Mathis's Christmas album when I was little and loving his voice.

"New York Christmas" by Rob Thomas is cool

"Mr. Heatmiser" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. I love it...from A Year Without a Santa Claus.

the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer soundtrack (especially "There's Always Tomorrow" & "Silver and Gold"

Home For Christmas cd by NSYNC

"Christmastime Is Here" by the Vince Guarladi Trio from A Charlie Brown Christmas

"Where Are You Christmas" by Faith Hill from How the Grinch Stole Christmas

"Do They Know It's Christmas" - Band Aid

"This Christmas" - Elliott Yamin
