Title: Wfy #12 On At Top 40 For Year
Description: But my station didn't play it

onlyforelliott - December 29, 2007 03:44 PM (GMT)
I've been listening to AT Top 40 yearly countdown since before 7 AM. I even had my capture program on just in case Ryan played a part of his interview with Elliott. I wasn't listening that closely, so I'm not sure if it happened with any other songs but here's what happened on my local station:

#13 Played
About 5 minutes of commercials
Ryan comes back on and after a few short sound bites, says something like "If you're just tuning in, #12 was Elliott Yamin with Wait for You.

If anyone else has been listening or will be listening as it plays at different times in different locations, I'd like to know if this happened while you were listening. It seems to me that Ryan must have known it would or could happen or he wouldn't have said that.

Isn't this beyond our wildest dreams? I've really gotten spoiled this year and of course I want to be spoiled again next year, but even though we all know that Elliott has the most beautiful voice in the history of the world, it is difficult to break into this super competitive business, and he has done it! Love you, Elliott, and I will be with you through the good times and the bad (maybe there won't be any).

I was checking Hot Ac and Ac mainstream stations and many , many stations are starting to play Wait For You again. Nice end of the year play of the biggest songs of the year. Great this is happening . They now know who Elliott Yamin is.

:rocker:

This is all truly awesome. I'm really glad he is reaching all of his musical goals! With talent, dedication, and a good work ethic, a lot is possible. Elliott is proof of that.

On Top 40 Elliott is the second most played song on the recurrent list on Mediabase with over 1600 spins for the week. Great end of year play for Wait For You.

Just listened to Top 40 as well in Dallas and they also didn't play WFY. Ryan just announced that it was #12 then went and played #11. What gives?

Same in Chicago. Grrr!

But, some stations did play WFY according to Yes.com.

I listened to the program today in Orlando and they did play WFY -- I was pleased to see how well it placed against some other very popular songs this year. I'm so proud of Elliott!!

the song will not die.... LOL

ETA: I see over 8000 spins on MediaBase for the month of December, after 9 months of release. No other song comes close to longevity.

Here's the top 20 songs from a Year End National Countdown:

01 Fergie: Big Girls Don't Cry
02 Beyonce: Irreplaceable
03 Timbaland f/OneRepublic: Apologize
04 Gym Class Heroes: Cupid's Chokehold
05 Pink: U + Ur Hand
06 Nelly Furtado: Say It Right
07 Timbaland f/Keri Hilson: The Way I Are
08 Justin Timberlake: Summer Love
09 Pink: Who Knew
10 Daughtry: It's Not Over
11 Kanye West: Stronger
12 Justin Timberlake: My Love
13 Justin Timberlake: What Goes Around Comes Around
14 Avril Lavigne: Girlfriend
15 Timbaland f/Nelly F. & Justin T.: Give It To Me
16 Elliott Yamin: Wait For You
17 Fergie: Glamorous
18 Rihanna f/Jay-Z: Umbrella
19 Gwen Stefani f/Akon: The Sweet Escape
20 Plain White T's: Hey There Delilah

If you look closely, you'll see that there are only three debut artists on the list.
Two of them are bands (including Daughtry.) Elliott probably had the biggest debut year on radio for a white male since Robin Thicke. The only other debut male artist that did better was Sean Kingston. That's pretty awesome. :awe:

I am awed at how this song came out in Ryan's year end list! WTG Elliott! (and us of course!)
