Title: Sales Figures Finally Up
Description: Elliott did real well - both albums

naberh - January 4, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
In a nutshell:

Elliott sold 5,000 last week and 11,000 the week before of his self-titled album. So total is now: 482,000 (that magic half mill number is getting close!)

As for his XMas cd, last week it sold 11,000 and 8,800 the week before for a total of 56,000

These are all wonderful numbers, I never dreamed he'd sell half a million albums of his cd (I remember when it first came out, my big hope was that he'd sell 250,000) , numbers are probably going to slump in January, but at this point, I'm not too worried, given what he's already sold.

Here are details:

Yay, thanks for the updates!!!! So close to that 500k......amazing accomplishment!!!

And Christmas CD sales were great, as well!!! :woot:

georgiafan1 - January 4, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the numbers. Elliott is only around 18,000 from officially selling Gold. I am so thrilled for Elliott, his team and his fans.

I had hoped that Elliott's holiday CD would sell 50,000 and it has sold at least 56,000. Too cool. :elliottcap:

Linda4Elliott - January 4, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
The Christmas CD may do reasonably well again this week, because I they were marked down to $1.74, though there may not be a lot left. No matter the price, they still count towards the sales number, yes?

ohioguy45780 - January 4, 2008 01:52 AM (GMT)
wow...the holidays are very nice to album sales, aren't they? Cheap gift and great stocking stuffer.

I estimated early on that Elliott would sell around 25K of his holiday CD. Boy, was I wayyyyy off!!! More than double, plus whatever trickles in over the next week before they purge the shelves of all holiday CDs completely. I think someone said their Target had some leftovers for $1.74 for all three of their offerings. Given the numbers, I'm fairly certain he has to have one of the better selling holiday CDs of the year (yes, yes, no where near Groban, but how a Christmas CD sells 6 million copies is beyond me). The radio play of the CD really helped immensly, I feel.

Next week will see the collpase of album sales across the board, for a month or so post-holiday. Expect a few weeks of ghastly numbers...you have been warned!!

Taratova - January 4, 2008 02:02 AM (GMT)
I am thrilled at the numbers. Just think, Elliott an independent label with no real muscle behind him , no hype, no constant primetime appearances, yet he has accomplished keeping sales up. And what I am happy for is more and more people will know his work and more fans will follow. :hooray: Elliott has just begun!! :hooray: < I like this one.. he he..

belle_marquez - January 4, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
Elliott has gone a long long way since his 'underdog' days in AI. We couldn't be any prouder of the guy. :elliottelliott:

nanab - January 4, 2008 03:57 AM (GMT)
nice numbers... :1word: GO ELLIOTT!!!!! :etrain: :etrain:

Flipboy5 - January 4, 2008 04:03 AM (GMT)
Yipeee!!!

Let's top that this year!

KittyloverforElliott - January 4, 2008 04:04 AM (GMT)
Wow! He must be so proud of his accomplishment. I ma hoping 2008 will be an even better year for him.

CathyEM - January 4, 2008 04:09 AM (GMT)
To quote Elliott's last blog:

"2007 has truly been the best year of my life, and I couldn't have gotten through it all without you guys!....so let's make '08 even bigger and better!!!"

luvthatelliott - January 4, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
Wow! Go Elliott!!!!!

terriberriez - January 4, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
That's great news!!! I'm so proud of Elliott and us E-trainers too!!

alienhamster - January 4, 2008 06:23 AM (GMT)
Awesome news. I bet he'll still sell relatively well even during the slump. I was interested in that stat that WFY sales went way up the last couple of weeks. Airplay for WFY is still pretty good (over 20 million audience impressions per week still.) I think this is where the AC crowd can help out. They don't always rush out to buy new artists, but they can steadily grow to like them if the airplay remains there.

shatner8 - January 4, 2008 11:03 AM (GMT)
great news for 2008! The numbers steady as they go- :hooray:

Those Christmas album sales are fabulous! Way beyond my wildest imagining for something with such limited distribution. And it's such a great album that really showcases him -- I would think that it will create some more rabid fans!

mike83 - January 4, 2008 02:37 PM (GMT)
If they release Movin On next I expect sales to increase yet again. Who knows maybe in a year or two Elliott will become platinum with this album. RIAA never stops counting sales, and anyone can buy a CD at any time.

Exactly. It seems pretty certain that he'll become a classic artist, appealing to a wide variety of people around the world. Having that happens means long-term sales.

You'd be amazed how many of the old Elvis and Rolling Stones and even the old Kelly Clarkson albums sell even today. I don't have access to those numbers, but I'd bet several thousand a year still.

AvivaDove - January 4, 2008 02:48 PM (GMT)
Congratulations to Elliott for such awesome sales numbers! We knew he would do it. Now, the world does too.

I bet JackieB is the one person who bought the most Christmas cds at once. lol Remember her artistic pictures of the cds at her house?

belle_marquez - January 4, 2008 03:01 PM (GMT)
I'm sure that Elliott is one of the few idols that's in this for the long haul. And I can even see him old enough and still getting royalties for his CDs. I'm sure of that! :woohoo2:

agree, and when his second CD comes out and reaches more people, some of those will go back and buy the first CD.

:rocker: That magic 500,000 is so close.

I'm tempted to buy another album......lol

yamignonette - January 4, 2008 03:52 PM (GMT)
^ I don't know that it would do anything for his sales figures there in the States, but I did buy another album tonight. ;p

Linda4Elliott - January 4, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
I believe that Taylor Swift's Christmas CD sold around 88,000....just shows how amazing Elliott's #'s are because he didn't get to promote it on any shows.

Well, it definitely created more semi-fans in my circle of friends... two radio stations in the Philippines have been playing some of E's Christmas songs, and three of my friends (not really fans) said they heard "Let's Be Naughty" on the radio, and they loved it. They definitely appreciate E more now :)

Cool. I've had a similar experience. A couple of people have said to me that they are super-impressed with the range of ability he showed on the Christmas album, and they weren't completely won over by his own album.

Thank you, holiday album!

Apple,

Could you say a bit more about what your friends meant by "range of ability"? Did they mean vocal tricks? Or different types of genres of music? Or actual note range?

Just curious.

They meant mostly the first two, but also a little of the third.

I don't think there's an expanded range working on the album, but because he more prominently uses some different vocal colors, it seems to sound to some people as if he's using a more extensive range. The growl on Merry Christmas, Baby, and the more Open-Armsy tone on the high notes in Let's Be Naughty and Warm Me Up don't appear that prominently on the full album and I'm thinking they show off his range better than some of his other tones do.

Official downloads from Ken Barnes:

"Finally, Elliott's Wait for You returns to the chart at 183, selling 22,000, up 229% from 7,000 for a total of 836,000."

Is 88K the final number for Taylor Swift's Xmas album? Because her regular album is going 3 - 4x platinum. I therefore think E selling 56K means he is a potential platinum artist. If no songs from this album get him there then he'll do it in another album with stronger songs.

If NBC had just given him a teeny bit of promo singing a Xmas song, he could have matched her sales. And she is currently selling more albums than Carrie Underwood. :rocker:

My impression when I first listened to the holiday CD - I was amazed at what he can do with his voice - his voice sounds so different on each of the songs you mentioned.

I guess the same thing is striking a lot of us. So good for his reputation as a singer to put out this little album that has that effect on old fans and new listeners both! Thank you, Target.

The Xmas CD is the biggest gainer on this chart this week.

Sold 16,000 albums, total, last week, and nearly 20,000 the week before that, between the two albums. He did make it onto some end-of-year countdowns but aside from that got very little media exposure or promotion of any kind in December. Makes you wonder how well he would have done if he'd got more breaks in that realm. I doubt that the bulk of these sales were resales to long-term diehard fans, either. That level of sales seems like the beginning of a pretty sollid career, I would think. Winning them over one by one.

artymom - January 4, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
I absolutely LOVED Elliott's Christmas CD and bought one for every single member of my family! So I'm not surprised that he sold so many...just tickled pink. Even some of my family that really don't dig E's music loved his "Let's Be Naughty" and "Warm me up". His total sales numbers are music to my ears!
:music: :woohoo:
