This is incredible - no it isn't - he is so wonderful that #1 is the only place he really belongs, but you know how the world and the business works and that makes this incredible.

Those are great figures. I didn't know Mcphee sold more than Kellie. I thought Kellie already sold half a million. Oh well. :)

I hope they put my other idol, Taylor there. He sold around 800K. :)

I think most of Taylor's sales were in 2006 right after his CD was released. After the initial Soul Patrol sales, things slowed to a crawl for 2007.

Katharine has actually sold way less than Kellie (a little more than half as many, i think.). But a large proportion of Kellie's sales came in 2006.....

These charts are so confusing. There's total sales, then there's Billboard 2007 sales, which actually start in November 2006 and end November 2007, and then there are 2007 sales, January to December. They all put people in different rankings. Kind of dumb, if you ask me.

^ Oh. I thought it was total sales. it is kind of dumb. and confusing at that. :)

And let's take this things into consideration. Elliott's album was released on March 2007. Some albums there were already out before 2007 so our boy did so good.

On Taylor, I believe his album was released mid December 2006 so I think most of it should have been sold during 2007? Or maybe I'm confused.

hhhmmm....yes, I do believe Taylors CD was released in late 2006...I wonder why he is not showing up on this list.

eta: then again, maybe most of his sales were in the first week or two and he just missed the cutoff for the top 200 of 2007. Makes sense, because the Soul Patrol surely snatched up the CD right away, and that counts for most of his sales since he didn't get radio play and many new fans.

If anyone has access to those numbers, I would love to know how many of his CDs were sold in the first two weeks. I know Elliott surely never had sales like the first two weeks of his release. That's what a built in fanbase is all about.

It is confusing when we are comparing artists who all competed in the same season, but had staggered CD releases over two years.

I will be interested to see how Jennifer Hudson's sales go after several years wait to release her first CD. Not sure how a movie career will translate into album sales.

Yeah, it seems strange to me that Taylor's not on here, since he had a December release. As I recall, he had huge sales his first two or three weeks and then dropped like a rock and never recovered, but I'm surprised that he dropped so fast that he doesn't even make this chart. ... I'm thinking he must have just missed it by inches.

I'm very proud and happy for Elliott's success with his debut and Christmas albums alike. Remember when we were afraid we would not get to hear music from him? I'm glad those days are past and look forward to more great music in the future. :elliottcap:

I checked Taylor's sales figures out at Idol Chatter. Their sales articles are archived all the way back to October, 2006.

Taylor sold 540,000 or so albums in 2006, that means he's sold about 158,000 in 2007. Kelly's Breakaway sold 290,000 and is #193, and Taylor's sales were only 55% of that figure.

Thanks for supplying the facts! Wow, he sold like crazy in those first three weeks -- I guess that was all Soul Patrol? Every single person who voted for him on the show must have bought an album or two or something. And then nobody else bought any. Wow. I'll bet that's one of the strangest sales curves in history, thanks to AI.
