Title: Vh1 Countdown 1-5-08
georgiafan1 - January 5, 2008 10:54 AM (GMT)
No "One Word". No Elliott! :( :bawl:
No Daughtry either.
In a few hours we will see if they will even be on the next voting list.
On the VH1 site, many people had been complaining all week that Bo was not on the countdown's voting list. The complaining may have backfired. I guess they decided to not play the other two males from AI. Oh well. :poke:

"THEY" decided !!!! I thought the people who vote decide who gets on the countdown. That's the concept behind the show , or am I missing something .
lindagt - January 5, 2008 11:02 AM (GMT)
The voting is just an interactive activity I'm afraid - "They" still decide....at least that's how it seems to happen.
trouble - January 5, 2008 11:10 AM (GMT)
One of the "Contenders" was Snoop Dogg's Sensual Seduction, not only did it have an ice cube next to it , but it stinks ! A big elaborate jive production !!
shatner8 - January 5, 2008 12:43 PM (GMT)
Not at all a happy camper with this news, is this a voting site or not?
VH 1 countdown has been great for Elliott, giving people a chance to hear his songs, I have voted daily on this site, watched videos, etc. The site would not last without all these hits it receives from many fan groups.
Didn't know that Bo was left off the list and now Chris and E too? not getting this
ridingtheetrain - January 5, 2008 12:43 PM (GMT)
As told to me by FurtadoLover over at VH1, the votes we cast from 12/29 thru 01/04 will determine the countdown of 01/12. The votes run a week behind, which makes sense to me. So, the votes we cast befor 12/29 counted for nothing because VH1 was on break. It was just to keep us on the site. We'll see what happens when the new list pops up later today. They did ditch Bo Bice after 3 wekks at #1. Keep voting, Elliott's fans never give up!
ohioguy45780 - January 5, 2008 01:47 PM (GMT)
Not at all surprising to me; although I'm shocked that Daughtry didn't make the countdown. We'll see if the remove it from the list later today. there are quite a few new major tracks and videos upcoming, so they will make room as necessary, unfortunately.

I'm still confused -- how did they come up with the top twenty for this week's show?
mike83 - January 5, 2008 01:51 PM (GMT)
I told you that people like JoJo and VH1 aren't influenced by our votes. They are the sole determinators in what does and doesn't get aired. In JoJo's case it has to be on the KIIS playlist before he can play it. You can't be mad at VH1 if they did decide to drop him because he isn't even on the Pop or AC charts right now.
I know a lot aren't prone to what goes on in the radio industry, that is why I try to offer advice.

Daughtry was removed from the VH1 playlist before the last count down, so I am not surprised.

more observing than me, Blossom! would never have noticed that...since I don't follow the Daughtry.

VH1 does take our votes into account, to be sure....hello, I seem to recall WFY doing extremely well last summer, thanks to the e-train and others(#1, #2, #1, #1, etc....). It may not the only factor, but you can't say voting is not important here.

It is important when you have a serious contender like WFY. It is not important when a song is sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Remember we wildcarded WFY for 2 months before it came on and hit #1? That wasn't a coincidence, it was VH1's doing. We voted just as hard, but VH1 didn't consider is legitimate until they added it.
yellin4yamin - January 5, 2008 02:16 PM (GMT)
:awwwman:
who did make it? Did Duran Duran make it? It makes no sense because Elliott has had a FLAME next to him for like..FOREVER~!! To me, all the vids with the flames would be automatically on the countdown....
*sniff*
:dunno: :yuck:
imthesame - January 5, 2008 02:32 PM (GMT)
The host keeps mentioning how many debuts are on today - possibly a record which goes along with the voting thing about certain time periods not counting toward this show. If OW doesn't disappear from the voting site, then I think we're on for next week. I will not stop voting unless OW is gone from the list - if it's gone then I see that as a message and we need to wait for Elliott's next suggestion.
Linda4Elliott - January 5, 2008 02:36 PM (GMT)
votes don't count? hogwash......our votes kept WFY on the countdown for many weeks. There must be more than meets the eye here. Of course, I'll keep voting rabidly this week if OW is still on the countdown. Disappointing :(
harleywoman - January 5, 2008 02:44 PM (GMT)
Edited because I didn't read correctly. If votes for the last week count toward next week, my guess is that he'll be back.
imthesame - January 5, 2008 02:44 PM (GMT)
I can't remember what day it was, but one time when I went to vote, the site was really weird. The top third all had flames, the middle third, thermometers and the bottom third, ice cubes (as the names were placed alphabetically on the list - thus Elliott had an ice cubes). Just a little later when I returned after coming here to mention it, the site was normal again and Elliott had a flame - I'm thinking that it was at that point that all our votes were probably cleared or there was a malfunction and this week's countdown is a fluke - it could be, considering all the debuts they've put on. I'm really disappointed and I want things to turn around for OW, but I will be patient and I'm sure with Elliott all things will eventually work out - how could they not, the guy is phenomenal (it's not just us being crazed - he is the real thing!).
imthesame - January 5, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
I think we voted based on the flames right now - aren't there only 13 with flames? The site doesn't reflect the results today.
jamie50 - January 5, 2008 02:51 PM (GMT)
I'm not surprised actually. It was great seeing Bo's video but a little weird seeing it at #1 when it got no radio play and the album is not selling much.
I think VH1 needs to keep some connection between its songs and the "real world." Plus Idol fanbases are so good at voting, their videos will always be #1. I think some nonsense was involved with a Kat video as well.
VH1 has been great for Elliott. If they want to take a break from Idol videos for a while I understand. (I think E and Daughtry between them dominated 2007 on this countdown.)
Efan2 - January 5, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
Definitely disappointed here. I purposely didn't log on early because I wanted to be surprised at the outcome. If it's true that our votes this past week count towards next week and, assuming Elliott is still on the countdown list, then he should be in the top 20 next time.
blossom - January 5, 2008 04:11 PM (GMT)
I don't see OW on the voting list!!!
ETA: They added Sheryl Crow "Love Is Free""
Linda4Elliott - January 5, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
it is still on my list, but no submit button yet....
EEEEvon - January 5, 2008 04:19 PM (GMT)
OW is removed from VH-1's voting site... :banghead:

I still see it, but obviously it must be gone, if you don't see it available. I don't even have a submit button yet....so all those votes we cast since the week before they changed to the yearly countdown until now were for naught

I see what you see Linda... still there but no Submit button. Oh well. Is Daughtry still there?
Nevermind... I see it now. Gone.
Ging - January 5, 2008 04:39 PM (GMT)
I stayed up to watch the countdown and I could not believe it. I would say on this one, our votes did not count !
Linda4Elliott - January 5, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
What really peaves me is that I feel VH1 has taken advantage of their voters and viewers.
Judy - January 5, 2008 05:07 PM (GMT)
I went to VH1 home page to try to figure this thing out. I see that they have Elliott's Playlist on their home page. Is this new? He looks darn cute and I haven't seen it before, maybe some others haven't either. His taste in music is very interesting.
Taratova - January 5, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
In voting so heavily for One Word- Flame only- I can't understand why they would take it off the list?????They had to see that each day we voted and kept voting. I bet many voted for this video too, not just E-trainers.
????????!!!!!
trouble - January 5, 2008 05:40 PM (GMT)
IMHO I truely believe the amount of votes for OW were staggering ! I know how many I put in , not to mention everyother fan voting there ! VH1 is a FRAUD ! :yuck:

Wikepedia : definition VH1 Vspot Top20 Countdown is a weekly television show on the VH1 cable network . Until the week of March 31, 2006, it was simply called VH1 top 20 Video Countdown and it counted down the top videos of the week, by record sales, radio airplay, video spins, message board posts, and conventional mail. ..etc on April 7,2006, the show got a new look and host (Matt Pinefield), with TOTAL FAN PARTICIPATION via the Vspot, VH1's online music video center ...

so maybe the votes just weren't enough, coinsidering all the other factors...I still am stunned, because i know the amount of votes I cast

   There is NO WAY that all of the video's on the board could have surpassed us , with the number of votes the we as fans put in ! At the very least OW should have appeared in the top 20 !!! :madashell:
rooney - January 5, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
So, should we be wildcarding 'One Word'?
trouble - January 5, 2008 06:18 PM (GMT)
Bo's fans wildcarded , do you see him up there ?
imthesame - January 5, 2008 06:26 PM (GMT)
Probably a new year brings a new format - the big label people probably were frightened by the grass-root voters and the way they determine the Top 20 may go back to the way it was. Makes me feel bad, but oh well, I think everything will be alright for Elliott, because he is a vocal gem - we just need to see what's next.

Here's what I know from reading around about countdown shows:
The stations always have the final say in positioning whatever they want on their countdowns. It may seem like false advertising (and I personally think it is), but they are allowed to say that the countdown is entirely "voter driven" when in fact it isn't.
Some stations debut a song on a countdown as an agreement with the label and/or as a way to test listener/viewer response--even if the song didn't get a single vote. I suspect Elliott got on the last countdown b/c of some sort of agreement. (The giveaway for me is the report posted at hitsdailydouble that said "Vh1 Countdown debut" even before Vh1 had finished tallying in the week he made #20.)
I don't know for sure, but I think this is how Vh1 works: they reserve a couple of spots each week for debuts that have nothing to do with votes. (There are often times a new artist is hosting, and they want to make sure that artist is on the countdown that week. Or else they made an agreement with the label.) Otherwise, the votes are fairly counted ONLY for those songs that they have decided to add to their regular playlist. I think they determined that "One Word" wasn't going to be a real add at Vh1--hence, the votes were not counted.
JMO, but I wish they'd be more upfront about the process. I don't think it should be entirely voter driven myself, as I think it's ridiculous how many idol fanbases have dominated the countdown. It does seem out of touch with the rest of the industry at times. Why not do a 50% voter, 50% airplay/sales deal? And then tell voters that instead of pretending like the whole thing is really voter driven.
Anyways, I feel sad for us here, and for Elliott, that he didn't get his video shown more on Vh1. We did all we could, so we have nothing to be ashamed of.
(And I agree with others that Wildcarding seems to be pointless.)
