Title: Let's Push To Get E On Oprah
sweetiesym - January 6, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
:elliottelliott: :etrain: I think It is time for a push to get Eliott on the OPrah show. He is so worthy of this. Every E fan should try to contact the show via, Email, letter, Etc to suggest a show about role moldels who have overcome adversity to make big changes in the world. With diabetes so prevalent, who better than Elliott to nbe featured on such a show. If Elliott gets this show, his career will be sealed.Once his voice is heard on Oprah, his music will win over myriads of new fans. Oprah is the show that turns everything to gold. If every efan writes one letter, perhaps there is a chance. Let's give it our best shot. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain for Elliott. I think that Oprah should have a feature segment on every show called Op(Operation ) Rah(like Rah, RaH) where she features someone who we should cheer. Elliott is one whose Operation should be cheered big time!!!!!!

:agreed: I'm all for it ! Let's make a concerted effort and see what happens !
imthesame - January 6, 2008 02:34 PM (GMT)
I haven't e-mailed her for over a year about Elliott, but I think I wouldn't be over doing if I sent another e-mail - good idea - is she doing new shows now?
sweetiesym - January 6, 2008 03:00 PM (GMT)
:etrain: I just emailed her on the website for her show. I am unsure if she is doing new shows now, but every mention of Elliott's name can only add more chance he will get asked to be on at some future date. Let's give it our best shot.

good luck. Everyone knows I'm against this, since it can do more harm than good, and strikes me as ClayMate-style behavior. Your time would be better spent commenting on Elliott actross musical websites and sites/blogs/forums outside the walls of the e-train. Oprah will pick whom she wants on her show; she's very selective, from what I hear. If E could work with Quincy Jones, she would have him on in a heartbeat, for example. All of the entreaties to Letterman, Leno, and the Today Show, among others, fell on deaf ears, so I expect the same.
Hopefully, we won't bombard her show with requests, which look desperate, IMO. (besides, it's the job of Croshal and management to get bookings, people). It makes Elliott look bad, and his fans, too.
Let the attacks begin..... :-)

I am 100% in agreement OG. At this point, believe me, Oprah's show knows who he is and they haven't booked him and I strongly expect they do NOT make their booking decisions based on our requests, but on what theme their shows take. While we are at it - almost 100% of the time when there is a high profile guest or musical artist on this show or any TV show, it is to promote a NEW cd, song or project. Elliott's CD has been out for nearly a year - there's no compelling "hook" to book him now. Try to put yourself in their shoes - our next opportunity to see him booked on shows will be at the release of the next single or if another big project comes his way before then.
luvthatelliott - January 6, 2008 03:10 PM (GMT)
I have to agree with the Lindas and OG. Elliott may have a better shot at getting on some shows right now. Guests are on the lean side because of the writer's strike. The guest lists are mainly made up of politicians, animal experts and musicians.
ETA: I think Elliott would come out totally unscathed crossing pickett lines. It's not his battle. Blake was on Leno Friday night. Jordin and Carrie are both scheduled for upcoming appearances.
imthesame - January 6, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)
The only hope I cling to is that I wonder if occasionally we get some type of response. I'm sure that I had nothing to do with this, but when all the Today Show and tree lighting stuff was going on I e-mailed The Today Show and just wrote a hopeful e-mail about wishing that Elliott would be on sometime during the holidays. He never appeared, but not too long after sending the e-mail the show did a clip about last minute Christmas shopping and showed a picture of Elliott's regular CD as they discussed good gift ideas (this was totally unexpected and probably something that they didn't need to do). Also, they had a lovely advertisement for the holiday CD placed during the show and the featured singer was Elliott - so they didn't completely ignore him. Probably they had already planned to do this, but who knows. I presented myself in a hopefully, dignified way as a viewer and as a consumer. I mentioned the show that morning and made a specific reference to Meredith. I can always dream, can't I?
I think that drowning a show with e-mails is the negative thing that can happen so we probably should not over-do. Hi, OG, are you cautiously optimistic about the Buckeyes?! Monday night will be a big night at our house.
jamie50 - January 6, 2008 03:16 PM (GMT)
I don't think this is really a problem but I have a gut feeling, Elliott wouldn't cross a picket line to be on a show. Even though as a non union member, it really shouldn't be a problem and I don't have any negative feelings towards any musicians who do appear on these shows.
I'd love to see him on TV again so I hope it happens. Ages ago, I e-mailed Oprah with a suggestion to do a show on S5 idols who didn't win.
It wouldn't hurt to send e-mails with similiar idol related suggestions although one to a customer would be the limit. Idol returning always brings a flurry of publicity although less this year than I remember.

That's why I recommend suggesting shows on Idol to Oprah NOT on Elliott Yamin alone. I think a show featuring Daughtry, Pickler, Elliott and Bucky as the non -winning winners of AI would be PERFECT. I'd especially like to see E and Bucky together again as they make a hilarious team.

:elliottelliott: My original message is not meant in any way to be anything more than an earnest hope for more for Elliott. If contacing Oprah poses any threat to his future success I respectfully hope those more in the know will do whatever is best for him. Perhaps asking for The Idols of Season 5 is really a better way to go. Thank you for pointing out the negative side of group entreaties to me. No one loves Elliott more than I do except for all of you!!!! Sorry if this idea was not such a great idea........

I agree with what you say. I call in and request occasionally and I submit a vote or two on different websites. I show my support to Elliott by gifting his Cd's. At work I put the picture I had taken with him as my computer background for a while. That got a lot of attention. I told everyone how talented he is and I think I'll have a group with me next time he performs in my area. Elliott is extremely gifted. I really think he'll be very successful.
imthesame - January 6, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
Lindagt is correct about people being booked based on topic and usually celebrities are on when they have something new to sell. The things that Elliott has going on right now are (hate to say this) his ties to American Idol (starting Jan. 15), anything that might go on about the Oscar Mayer thing and the Diabetes campaign - winners of the contest and all. This CD of Randy Jackson might bring about a TV visit especially since Randy mentioned Elliott second in his list of singers on the CD. I could see this possibly on Oprah. The business is interesting and even though our guy sings with the voice of angels he still needs to live and work in this real world (thank goodness we have actual physical proof of his life-altering, soul-stirring voice in the form of his CD that can sustain us while we wait). I also think he's pretty secure right now because his deal includes another CD for sure and he is still riding well on the first one. I'm here for the duration, Elliott, you can't shake me.
Flipboy5 - January 6, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
One perfect example of why Elliott should get on Oprah, Josh Groban. I have heard his Christmas CD and it has some good songs but I never thought it could dominate the charts as it did. I think his appearance there aired 2 or 3 times within a month or so and it resulted into at least 2.5 million copies sold. Granted it was Christmas but it probably wouldn't have been as massively successful without the power of Oprah.
But first things first, Elliott's album has to be on stores' shelves when he makes his appearance there.
Let's get at it.
imthesame - January 6, 2008 08:14 PM (GMT)
Yep, I agree about Josh. I have a co-worker who was all excited to tell me about seeing and hearing Elliott on Oprah. As it turned out, it was Josh - but I bow to the power of Oprah and I sigh to the clueless-ness of the masses. She just saw a curly headed guy singing Christmas stuff. Josh is fine, but he ain't no Elliott! Come on people - get with it.
Taratova - January 6, 2008 09:31 PM (GMT)
Oprah show is looking for a story , something to put on daily. They have producers who find stories and they select what to go with. It doesn't hurt to tell Elliott's story to the Oprah show and also his accomplishments with being an independent artist and his work with JDRF. I believe the story is about being an Idol to look up to and Elliott's successes with many obstacles to overcome. This would be a great show! If we all contact at once it would be an onslaught. But if we keep our requests spaced apart we can keep Elliott's story alive therefore he could be chosen as a guest .
jojojam1204 - January 6, 2008 11:59 PM (GMT)
I don't think a random request or two would hurt, but I think if everyone started sending in requests at once that wouldn't look so good. I know shows sometimes book artists based on viewer requests, so if there was a way to have a random request or two go out every month, that would probably be OK. But we shouldn't send in requests by the dozens at once, as that looks like we would be over doing it.
We have no idea what plans Elliott has for 2008 on a weekly or daily basis. I think his promotion team has done a wonderful job during 2007. I think we really need to leave stuff like this to his team, and just be the suppportive fans that we have been. I do not want to jeopardize his future exposure by being too aggressive.
ohioguy45780 - January 7, 2008 01:13 AM (GMT)
there's nothing wrong with a sporadic request, coming from an individual. It's quite another to get into a group huddle and decide to bombard, under some planned "attack" operation. That's when we cross the line from a fan base to a group of fanatics.

I know that Oprah has had Clay on her show at least two times that I can think of, and the first time she said that she got so many requests for her guest that day, that she just had to have him on.
I know with Elliott, he is such a perfect candidate for her show, and he is EXACTLY what she is all about, from the music, to his genuine soul, his love for Stevie, Donnie, Whitney, all he has overcome, his fight for a cure for the JDRF....he really would be a wonderful, and inspirational guest. I agree though that an e-mail here and not hundreds all at once, would be the best bet. Although "rabidness" in THIS instance, worked for Clay...lol;)
Oh and how perfect would it be if she surprised ELLIOTT (on her dreams come true show) with Stevie Wonder, and they did a duet?? That is TOTALLY something she would do!! Oh yeah, and the tears would flow! Someone might suggest this too;) Maybe I will!

Clay also had a major-label record contract, though, and all the additional push that the label certainly supplied to get the Oprah people's attention. (and a Rolling Stone cover ... and the relative newness of American Idol back then, and his second-placer-outsells-the-winner thing.)
I'm sure the fan requests mattered, but he also had the machine behind him.

but I'm with Applesauce here - a lot has changed over those years, including Oprah's show. You can bet Elliott's management is working every angle to get him booked on major shows, including the diabetes involvement.
Personally, I think his next appearances should be focused on the music and not his involvement in diabetes awareness - he needs to be taken seriously as an up and coming artist, not primarily as a singer who does charitable work - as admirable as that is. It matters a lot to us, but doesn't help much to build his credibility as a musician and a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
I'm still all about letting E's management team take care of making appearances happen, but everybody has to do what feels right to them.

Yes, this is what I think too.
I also agree that I'd prefer seeing him as a guest based on his music at this point. That's going to be a little tricky until he has new stuff out, though, I suppose.
