Title: OW And Hot Adult Contemporary
Sk8888 - January 8, 2008 01:42 AM (GMT)
Just a note to remind us all that in the last couple of days we've seen at least two Hot Adult Contemporary radio stations ADD OW to their playlists.
I remember being really frustrated with HAC stations NOT taking to WFY the way TOP 40 and AC stations did.
Am I remembering this accurately? It's actually very intriguing to consider the possibility that OW may be being redirected to HAC stations.
Correction: OW was not ADDED, but got SPINS at these two stations. Sort of a big difference. Sorry folks.

That's interesting - I hope that's what is going on. I have always thought that OW fit this format - just because a song doesn't rock the Top 40 format doesn't mean it has no life in another format.

No joke, Elliott's OW has a bullet in HAC with just four spins! (He's still at #180 on the list, but OW was at #380 last week.)
It just takes a toenail in the door folks.

Hmmm, don't know, Sk8888. He was getting regular airplay at one HAC station for weeks: Colorado Springs. They've dropped him completely now.
We've seen a lot of stations give One Word one or two spins total in pop, rhythmic, and HAC formats.
As always, if we have anyone in the area of these stations, they should call in. But I don't get the feeling this will take off at HAC. (I'd like to be proven wrong, though.)

Boy, it's strange because actually OW seems so *not* Hot AC to me. Hot AC seems to have a rock-y vibe (at least at the stations I'm familiar with), while OW sounds soft contemporary pop all the way, to me.
That said, if it's getting spins at the Lawrence-Welk-sing-along stations or the all-punk-all-the-time stations, I'm there. Go, OW.

I posted about OW and HAC because it had a bullet and had moved up. Just that simple.
A lot of people are just now returning from holdiay vacations and their daily routine, (including PD's.) It seems to me that if OW is getting a second chance/wind, regardless of the radio format, we should monitor it to see if any other stations follow suit.
BTW, I don't get why HAC would embrace OW and not WFY either, but if that's how it's going to go, I'm not going to question it.
